Convince me tht indirect are the way to go

as most have said, cheaper than direct, more to spend on holiday over there than on getting there.
If there are weather problems and MCO or Sanford shut. You have the option of flying to the hub airport and making a different connection(happened to us when Charley hit, we ended up flying to Miami rather than Tampa,as Tampa and MCO were closed added 2 hours instead of 3 days)You have to remember that the yanks use the plane like a bus,so there is never a problem shifting you around.never be afraid to walk up to a desk to see if you can get a different internal flight
International flight shorter
better customs at the hubs

regarding your comment about walking up to another plane - i saw that in action a year and a half ago...
i was in houston....
i had been with my mom at the medical center there and we had to fly back to detroit...

i was standing in line at the desk at the gate to find out how much longer our delay would be (there was a hurricane raging around us at the time)...
a couple in front of me asked if there was room on our plane...
they said they were scheduled on the plane at the gate across from ours, but their pilot was refusing to fly in the hurricane, while our pilot had decided to fly despite the hurricane
there was room on our plane, so the ground agent switched them to our plane..

which of course, led to my question when i got up to the agent...
what's up with the other pilot not flying and ours flying?
the ground agent said that as long as the airport is open, the pilots can make their own decision as to whether it's too dangerous to fly...

but the answer was more obvious than that....the other plane was a delta plane....that pilot is paid whether he flies or not...
our plane was a delta regional plane - that regional company pays the pilot only if he flies.....so.....you figure it out.....he's obviously more likely to fly in dangerous weather than the delta pilot...

nice to hear right before i got on board a very small jet taking off in the most frightful weather i've ever taken off into

another reason i hate flying regional airlines...whether they have a big airline's name in front of their name or not..

We have been considering using indirect flights for some time in either 2013/2014 and wondered how it all came together. This thread has explained so much, now I can understand it more:thumbsup2I was worried about not having time to clear customs and immigration in time to get to a connecting flight and still be able to drop off baggage.
I must show my better half this thread on his day off he will appreciate it too. It's always good to have options and I'm so glad that the websites are mentioned here to keep tabs on all the deals;)

We were playing with this idea for a while thinking we could save a bit on the flights and using the extra cash either as spending money or upgrading accommodation.
I would think hard about the accommodation part too, don't get me wrong I loved POFQ but we have wondered about a riverside room there next time or at the sister resort or having a once in a lifetime stay at a standard/ garden / water view room in a deluxe resort if the budget allows for either next year or the year after.
Just wanted to say:thanks: to everyone here for posting:grouphug:

a standard view at the Grand Floridian is absolutely lovely.....nothing wrong with it at all....and you're at the GF!!!
same is true at WL...

we've had standard views at both the GF and the WL, and we enjoyed both of them....didn't feel like we were missing anything by not having a waterfront/pool view.....and we loved being at both resorts!!

We're doing Edingburgh > Newark > MCO with United for the first time this year after serveral years of BA Glasgow > Gatwick > Orlando (as the stop over times are shorter / better now we have a 4 year old.

The idea of clearing immigration in Newark appeals :)
