Continental or American

Has anyone had any experience with booking on Continental and then having the fare drop and getting vouchers? Continental and American have the best fares right now for Dec to Orlando, but are still about $50 higher than what we are used to paying. I know we will end up paying more because of the gas prices, but we have been watching the fares since they started coming out last winter and this is the lowest we have seen. On either of these airlines, would we receive a voucher if the price drops more? Thanks. Debby

I doubt it highly. I've flown with both, and haven't ever recieved a voucher if a fare happened to go down. It's pretty tough when you realize that on any given aircraft there can be as many as 20 different prices being paid. If we're considering the current cost of fuel, a $50 increase isn't that bad. My advice; unless you've got a low cost carrier who you know is going to introduce service to your airport in the next few weeks, go ahead and reserve your flights.

Continental does allow for vouchers if the fare goes down, but you must pay the change fee which ranges from $25.00 to $100.00 per ticket. They do make exceptions sometimes, but rarely. For example, we booked our trip from Newark to Orlando for September back in July. Well, two weeks later, Continental drastically lowered their airfares to Florida destinations because JetBlue announced they would start flying out of Newark as well. In this case, Continental made a 1 time exception for us and provided us with $300 in travel vouchers for a future flight. Good luck!
