Contest Mail-in Entries

...You can't mail a 3x5 card. It's too small. I'd suggest USPS cards you can buy that are 3.5 x 5.5. I don't know why huge companies like Disney and their lawyers can never figure out that 3x5 is too small.
I think that's exactly Disney's gameplan here....

Of course, I could just be playing the role of a conspiracy theorist.... :smooth:

Just to be clear, you're supposed to pay taxes on amounts smaller than $600, the $600 is just a reporting requirement. Just as you're supposed to pay taxes on the first dollar of gambling winnings or other small income items. But of course most folks don't.

This is very true. However, if you sign a affadavit with your SS# on it for any value then it has to be reported. The company will send you a 1099 that you will need to file with your taxes.

I have won things that are $300 dollars and didn't have to sign anything and I've won things for $30 dollars and had to claim it on my taxes. Its just up to the sponser.

Good Luck everyone!!

Edited to add that I emailed disney about the 3x5 postcard thing to see if they will accept the 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 postcard or if they want a card in a envelope. I will let you guys know.

I can't believe Disney intends to award the mail in prizes to "professional contest entrants" who read the fine print carefully.

My guess is 3 X 5 refers to a standard 3.5 X 5.5 post card. 2 X 4 lumber doesn't measure 2" by 4".

Then why not just say entries can be submitted on a "postcard"? Who knows....

"Professional Contest Entrant" I think I found a new career.. ;)

Now where do you sign up!!

I don't know but I've seen larger post cards. I guess they could have said something like "standard sized post card". I'm sure lawyers and FL contest rules dictate the wording.

You can mail a 3" X 5" card, you just have to pay extra postage, .52 The conspiracy theory would be Disney has set up rules that virtually no one will follow. It would only make sense if Disney was going to weight the selection process. Virtually no qualifying mail entries will be received. If AV is correct with his assumed 50-50 split then limiting the mail in winners to a select group of contest entrants makes no sense.

edited to say the official rules says the postage has to be affixed to the card, putting a card in an envelope doesn't comply with the rules. It also refers to a 3 X 5 POSTCARD . An index card isn't a post card since it's not designed to be mailed.

Just my opinion.

We prefer the term "sweepstakes hobbyist or enthusiast". :)

Professional means you can make a living at it, and even the most successful and luckiest of sweepers can't rely on random drawings to pay their rent and bills.

( I do know a couple in California who have won 17 cars over the years)

Looks like someone was listening. I just looked at the rules again, and someone appears to have edited them to say 3.5"x5". See quote below:
Also, starting on September 18, 2006, eligible participants can enter without being present in a Disney Property by writing their full name, complete mailing address (including postal code), daytime telephone number (including area code), and date of birth on a 3.5"x5" postcard and sending it with proper postage affixed to: (i) if a legal resident of the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada or Mexico: P.O. Box 8629, Elmhurst, IL 60126; or (ii) if a legal resident of the United Kingdom: Disney Dream Giveaway, 483 Green Lanes, London N13 4BS. Participants may enter once per day during the Giveaway Period. All mail-in entries must be mailed separately, postmarked by December 31, 2007 and received by January 14, 2008 or they will be void.

I guess the debate is solved!!!

My personal opinion is that all Disney geeks, like us, {I know, speak for yourself} will be sending in postcards every day, and Disneys office in Illinois will have to find a place to put a hundred gajillion post cards over the next year. Wonder if there is a big enough landfill in Illinois, or will they burn them and produce enough energy to light up Chicago? :teeth:

After each day, they throw out the cards, that is why you can only send them in daily.

But cards sent in from Sept. 18-Oct. 4 were all thrown in one pool. But now the daily card's start.

I have a question I am hoping someone who is better at reading the rules can help me with!

In one place it states that you are ineligible if you or a family member is part of the Walt Disney company (paraphrasing here) on or after a specific date.

No one in my home is at the moment. My daughter is hoping to do the college program Fall of 2007. Meanwhile are the prizes awarded montly? So could I enter daily now until she signs on as a college program student?

I wasn't clear on whether some prizes were awarded at the very end among all the entries over the year and three months.

Thanks
Liz

Back to the pools question.

The way I read this is that there are more than two pools. The mail-in pool would be lumped in with the other pools eligible to receive the prize on that day. So no need to weight anything. The odds of picking a mail in winner wont be 50/50.

To beat a dead horse lets say your pools are Main Street, Innoventions, each one of the Fast Pass Rides, Each country, the check in area of each hotel, so forth and so on. Some of these are eliminated due to being ineligible. That might leave a 1 in 30 chance of a mail entry being selected. Or one in 100. And what would make a pool ineligible? Winning there the last time, area closed for some reason?
