Contemporary Resort Questions

Just stayed at CR this past September. We stayed on the 11th Floor Tower facing MK. It was wonderful. The room needed updating, maybe an extra touch here or there, but for the most part a very nice room. Maid service was wonderful.

The only problem for us were those brown birds that hovered about and landed on our balcony, which of course meant bird droppings on the balcony. Also, those birds were pretty aggressive, if you say left your seat at the pool for a swim with chips or a hot dog on the table. They jumped right up there after you left and picked at it.

The love bugs were around here and there while we were visiting the World, but they don't sting or bite and just sort of land on you and you can just brush them off. They aren't even really scary looking like cicadas or anything.

Jynohn--how did you get a room at the CR for $70 night? I know you said it was two years ago, but still.

Yes, as someone mentioned it was an overflow rate from Shades of Green during their renovations. Sorry for the confusion!

 I started this thread a few days ago and just wanted to thank everyone for their responses. Our stay was unbelieveable in every way! We went to check in at 3:00 and our room wasn't ready, but they said it would definetly be ready by 5:00pm. Then the CM told me that I had paid for a standard non smoking room in the garden wings, but that I had been upgraded to a tower room!!!! I was so ecstatic I couldn't believe it. So we went and roamed around the shops just feeling so great. I called at 4pm and our room was ready. We were on the 9th floor room 4509. It is gorgeous. Completely renovated with a marble entrance way and those great beds. I have never slept so well in a hotel room as I did last night. Flat screen tv to watch our favorite Disney cartoons on. My sister's birthday couldn't have been better. We love Disney because it is so magical, but we actually saw, felt, and experienced that Magic this weekend. :wave2:

We stayed at the Contemporary 9-26-10-4. Here's my thoughts:

First of all we originally booked a Garden wing room...when we checked in several CM's appeared applauding informing us we were chosen as "family of the day" Kids got some special stuff...the best part was being upgraded to a 12th floor tower room with an MK view.

The view was fantastic!! The room was nice...but not great. The vent in the shower was absolutey filthy...crumbs on the floor...just not in tip top shape. We have 3 kids..so with 5 people we basically lived out of out suitcases the whole time...there isn't a lot of drawer space etc.

The bugs people refer to are indeed outside...all around the pool & marina. We tried to do some night swimming...but were greeted by 5 ducks swimming in the pool. And they were there every night we were.

Our trip was WONDERFUL..we greatly appreciated the upgrade. However, for our family of 5...we might try 2 rooms at a value resort next year. I just can't decide if the extra $$$ is worth it.

Umm 12th floor? That's usually Consierge Light floor isn't it? It's not closed down yet?

That's great. My sister was just there 2 wks ago and was upgraded to a tower room with MK view from a garden wing. Not a renovated room but she said it was very clean and everything was working.

Seems quite a few people recently have been upgraded from the wings to the tower? Perhaps because of the work going on in southwing and also slower season with more tower rooms available?

Now I'm booked for a tower room. I'm hoping they can fill my request for MK view (and also give us a renovated room). I'm a little concerned because we'll be checking in around 3PM and afraid by then there won't be any MK view and/or renovated available. Only hope I have is that we'll be showing up on a Friday and it will be a couple of days before the Thanksgiving crowd arrives. :confused3

Things change a lot over 8 years, but just FYI on my experiences...all in the 'off-season'...

- in '97, we booked a tower room in '97 and asked for an upper-floor with MK view. Got 6th floor. Checked-in about 1pm.
- in '99, we requested a north-wing room, 3rd floor, and got it. Checked-in about noon.
- in '01, we requested a north-wing room, 3rd floor, and got it. Checked in about noon.
- in '03, we requested a north-wing room, 3rd floor, and got upgraded to the tower (Thanks Maricarmen!!)...11th floor, MK-view. Checked-in at 7am. However, by mid-morning (when we called from the MK to see if the room was ready), they had to re-assign us to the 10th floor. First trip with all three kids, and it was magical!
- in '05, requested north-wing, 3rd floor, and the CM tried to put us in the south-wing. We said that wouldn't do, so north-wing it was. Checked-in at 7am. Had room troubles when the cold-water didn't work (wuwt?). After a day of repairmen, they moved us to the tower (offered room comp for a night and room-move, and I asked if we could move to tower instead..and she said 'of course' (Thanks Tiffany!!), so 12th-floor bay-view).

We've been spoiled now (and lucky), and in future trips, I will book the tower (even if we have to stay a day or two less <where's the icon that shows an empty wallet?> :teeth: ). It's REALLY convenient...cheap room-service is just a quick elevator ride away, and very cosmopolitan...contemporary even. :goodvibes

Have a great trip! I THINK they assign rooms a couple of days ahead, so someone on these boards my have a suggestion about how to contact the hotel to influence your room assignment. MK-view is great!! To me, the best room-view in WDW.

I've read that they get the room reserv. a few days ahead and am planning on faxing them a letter then with our request. But then I've read that the actual room assignments are on a first come basis. So that someone arriving early has a better chance of getting what they request. :confused3

The last time we were there was in 97. At that time I had called 24 hrs. before arrival (as someone had suggested) to see if they could fill our request for MK view and was told they would try. When we got there about 10:30 a.m. we were given room with MK view. I can't remember what floor. But we had a great view of the Castle dressed up as a cake and I do remember that we were a distance away from Chef Mickey.

I guess they lay out a plan, then scramble some throughout the day as people check-in (and push for certain views/rooms). We attributed our '03 upgrade to getting there early (7am) and the hotel having some empty tower rooms. But, same scenario this year, and we were almost 'demoted' to the south-wing, as we'd requested north-wing. I'm sure they didn't see at as that..and she was probably trying to give us a renovated room, but with construction all around, and mainly, the much longer walk to MK, we refused.

We're to the point now of booking tower rooms on future trips...they're worth the extra cost to us (and we're usually really tight with $$...DW says 'cheap'...I say 'prudent'). :tilt:

Faxing/calling ahead with room requests couldn't hurt...probably helps a lot, especially for mid-afternoon (and later) checkins. Are you arriving the Friday before T'giving?

Yes, we had a lovely view overlooking the lake and could even see some of the Fort Wilderness Lodge Hotel. It would have been neat to see the castle out your window, but I enjoyed this view very much. :sunny:

Just returned from a week with the mouse!

We stayed at CR, for the first time, from 10/12-14 (we were home at SSR for the rest of the time) and I was impressed. Of course, the MK view didn't hurt! Maybe it helps to have a three month old with you at check-in :) Staff wasn't particularly friendly or helpful, but housekeeping was good, but no animal towels :( Fast food (food court) options were fine for us and provided a good selection...wish we had time for Chef Mickey's, but maybe when DD is older!

We were on the 6th (lowest) floor, but it was kind of neat being right above the monorail and having an "eye level" view of the castle! I kept waiting for noise from the monorail, street/parking lot, or shopping level (4th floor) but never heard it when the front and balcony doors were closed - the sleeping baby appreciated the soundproofing! We absolutely loved being able to walk to MK for MNSSHP and other visits - we'll definitely stay again in the future!
