Rumor is that one of the wings would be converted into a DVC property. This doesn't mean less rooms for DVC guests as non-members can rent the rooms for cash. I would think that anyone paying the ridiculous rates at the Contemporary would appreciate having a much nicer villa to stay in rather than the run-down, out-dated standard rooms. Many of the rooms at that resort go unused now (see Disney Institute as an example)
Disney could shift some of the upkeep (like the monorail and a badly needed new pool) to DVC folks who will gladly help pay for things through our dues every year.
DVC provides serious profits for Disney (see the latest earnings of WDW and pay attention to the fact that DVC is mentioned)
The last 3 DVC resorts used existing infastructure from already existing resorts. They have found a formula that works. Why change it?

However, they did demolish the Disney Institute Resort to make way for Saratoga Springs, and they're likely to demolish the North Wing of the Contemporary Resort if they were to build a DVC property there. In both cases, the original resort was not touched.
