Conspiracy theory's

I think we're just getting smarter and not believing everything we're told by the govt.

I believe anything and everything Michio Kaku says. He's the farthest from a nut than I've ever seen.

And I sure do believe our govt would kill thousands of people if they felt it would benefit some agenda of theirs.

Look how it's come out that Pres. Roosevelt KNEW the planes were coming from Japan to Pearl Harbor, yet he didn't do anything to stop it. Why, you ask? because he needed a good reason to drop the bomb on them and end the war in one swoop. And it worked.

Everything comes out over time.

That said, I still love my country but it's the people I love. I love our govt for keeping us free, but their ways are very very suspect many times.

Can you please cite your source(s) about FDR and Pearl Harbor?

I have heard this, too. The problem - we were still a almost 4 years away from having the bomb in 1941 and had no timeline for its completion. The Trinity Test (first nuclear explosion) didn't happen until July of 1945. We used it less than one month later against Japan to end the war.

You saying I'm wrong about Pearl Harbor and Roosevelt?

Oh yes. I have seen the conspiracy theories. But the way the PP stated "now it has come out..." I thought maybe there was some legitimate and credible new information released.

I thought there were formally classified documents released about this. I know I've seen them on the internet somewhere. If they weren't real, I'm embarrassed for believing it.

No, just the bomb part. It destroys the credibility of the larger theory.

Given how reluctant Americans were to enter the fight against Hitler, I can see how we might have let this attack happen. We did, after all, move our most valuable naval resources away from Pearl Harbor before the attack.

That said, If FDR had known how much they were going to throw at us, I am not so sure that he would have allowed it. The new torpedoes that they used were only developed about one month prior to the attack (shallow water, airplace dropped). Without them, we would have taken little damage.

So, even if the theory is correct, it is also incorrect. IMO, no way it is allowed to happen if the results had been known ahead of time. We were overconfident about Pearl Harbor's strenths and unaware of the Japanese improvements in technology.

There was information released that the US and the UK were able to crack the Japanese diplomatic codes which let them know Japan was planning on declaring war against the US. However, it did not provide any specific where, when or how type info. Besides, by the time of Pearl Harbor, there was enough popular support for going to war that it wasn't necessary that Roosevelt let our country be attacked first. Especially such a militarily devastating attack on our navy.

No, but there are some missing documents, and many that have not been released. There are also some "conversation transcripts" that have been proven to be fakes. Still just a conspiracy theory.

What technology? Didn't they use one-seater kamikaze planes?

No, they used the shallow water torpedoes that they dropped from their planes that had just been developed. Until then, Pearl Harbor was considered safe because of its shallow waters. Deep enough for ships, but not for airplane dropped torpedoes.

Wow I feel like a dunce today. Twice within 20 minutes on two different threads I've learned something important that I thought I really knew about. Thanks for the info.

Revolutionary War
Civil War
Spanish American War
WWI
WWII
Korean Conflict
Viet Nam
Gulf War
Afghan, Iraqi War/Conflict whatever they call it.

I've researched both sides and I have not made up my mind either way, however, I would not say that the gov't would never do this. Did they, I don't know. There are many things that gov'ts do and have done in the name of security, defense, etc.
If you look into it, there are things that will definitely make you wonder.

Those are all incidents of WAR. Where capable, intelligent, willing adults signed up in the military to go and fight for their country. Except in the case of a draft, those people all had a choice to go to war or not go to war. Those ppl weren't lined up and shot, they weren't put in a building and blown up. The government didn't kill all those men. Our countries enemies killed those men.

Any other conspiracies to discuss? I can't think of any, but I'd love to know more.

Wow, I'm impressed. You may feel like a dunce, but I commend you for (a) realising that there may be gaps in what you think you know and (b) admitting it openly (on both threads).

I think the FDR/Pearl Harbor issue, is one of the most "accepted" conspiracy theories. However, I do agree with DisneyBamaFan that there are gaps in it (and parts - like the bomb as a reason - that just don't make sense).

so far (cept the small quarrel in the middle) this has been a great thread, theres a bunch of them i didnt know about...i have to admit i do enjoy them and can openly see where most of them can be seen as being true..lol....but i do like reading new sources i havent read, i will have to read up on the pearl harbor one.

eta: i just went to conspiracy theories on wikipedia and wowo theres a lot including one about columbine i was reading now, first i hear of that one.

Never heard the one about FDR, Im gonna have to read up on that one now! :thumbsup2

How about Plum Island? I don't believe anything to do with that one at all and that's due to the fact that I have had quite a few family members work there. It's just another one out there that people here might have opinions on.

Generally I don't believe in cover ups and conspiracies by our government but I do like to read about them because they can be interesting and sometimes spooky.

All ten reported incompetence, underestimation and misapprehension of Japanese capabilities and intentions, problems resulting from excessive secrecy about cryptography, division of responsibility between Army and Navy (and lack of consultation between them), and lack of adequate manpower for intelligence (analysis, collection, processing).

That sounds an awful lot like the outcome of the 9/11 commission report.

I did that too and there is really a conspiracy theory involving EVERYTHING!!! Like i said, I don't really believe i just like to read. Honestly though, I feel like the fact that there is a theory attached to everything shows that many of them are untrue. It just seems like stories have to be made up about everything.

Thank you. The truth is I can better handle being a dunce than being a jerk! :rotfl:

"The death of former NFL player, and US Army Ranger Corporal Patrick D. Tillman was believed by many to have died in Afghanistan in 2004 not be a result of a friendly fire incident, but a intentional act of murder by the U.S. government, carried out by the U.S. military to boost support for the war. What was confirmed was that the military indeed tried to cover up the circumstances of his death."

This one caught my eye on Wiki. Honestly, I don't see how that would boost support of war, I feel like it would make people dislike the war more to see a public figure like that die in it.

"There have been many purported sightings of Elvis Presley over the years since his death in 1977. Several conspiracy theories have developed suggesting that he is still alive."

I gotta say I LOVE to have fun with this one. I know a guy who sings Elvis music all the time and is around the right age...;)

"The Venezuelan state-run TV station ViVe has claimed that the 2010 Haiti earthquake was caused by US government weapons testing, and a government cover-up took place."

Another one that caught my eye....
