Considering a Christmas trip to WDW: anyone else?

My fingers are crossed for all of you. I know that the task force said that the border should never close again, so I hope that advice is taken!

Honestly to me it sounds like new rules to countries other then the US. But who knows.

Really the only thing that would affect us if they implement a quarantine requirement.

There’s definitely something more to the “one size fits all” statement. Maybe the same testing for everyone? Mandatory quarantine? Hard to say. I’ll be wondering and worrrying along with all of you. I don’t leave for 2.5 more weeks.

I can’t imagine how nervous those of you leaving this week are. I’m sorry guys. I know it’s a pandemic, and I know we all know to be flexible. But it’s disappointing and sad and I know it’s just plain stinks to be up in the air again at this point.

I just know that such a big deal was made about the US border and how we needed to open it. Both for the economy, families etc etc. That’s why I’m doubtful they will close it down like last time. Although it was never fully closed.

We’re supposed to go on Sunday (not looking good now) so I just bought myself a consolation purse. Dooney and Burke is having a Disney purse sale and they ship to Canada using Borderfree. Got a cute purse for under $200. And now the castle is having a fire-it’s all so symbolic. Can you tell I’m having a pity party for myself tonight? LOL!

Sounds like the Gov decided to bring back the non essential travel advisory. Guess we want for tomorrow...

As someone who was all set to fly to Rio de Janeiro on the evening of March 13, 2020, until we turned on the 1 pm news conference and saw Justin Trudeau tell us that non-essential travel was off limits... I have a horrible feeling of deja vu and can't believe we're back here again.

Tonight's rumours seem to indicate that the US border will be open, but that there will be an advisory against non-essential travel. DH and I haven't discussed it, and we'll wait to see what the official word is before making any decisions. My gut feel is that if the definition of non-essential is left to us, and our travel health insurance policy still covers us, I would vote to go. We're booked and paid and stand to lose a chunk if we need to cancel. It's a short trip so even with cases growing exponentially, this thing won't have time to truly take off before we're home. We take the recommended precautions every day and would continue that at Disney. I think I could even argue that we'd be safer out in the open air and sunshine in Orlando than we are at home where life has moved indoors due to the cold.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Omg we fly out tomorrow. We could be mid flight when this announcement is made. And my daughter and fam are supposed to leave Friday.

Unless my travel insurance won’t cover me I’m going! We are ’retired’ ‘broken’ on permanent disability so a 2 week quarantine is no big deal for us! In my opinion all of us are triple vaxed and I’m probably safer down there in the sunshine and outside then I am here stuck inside! My mental health needs this! Life is short……. I’ve followed the rules all along but I don’t feel it’s any more dangerous in the us then it is here!

Agreed. My postal code has a vaccination rate for eligible adults of under 55%…. I’m at risk every time I go to work as the adolescent rate is even more abysmal 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is this what a non-essential travel advisory means - that it’s a mandatory 2 week quarantine? Or are you saying that if you tested positive, you’d be prepared for it?

Not historically- the advisory that was just lifted in Oct didn’t require quarantine unless you tested positive (granted, you could only travel by air not land).

Just that we are prepared for the quarantine OR for being stuck in Florida (such a hardship) for a quarantine if necessary!

That’s a good question… border closure vs travel ban vs advisory…

From the sounds of it the border will stay open. What I think they are going to is re in-state the non essential travel advisory thus insurance will no longer cover for Covid.
