Hi all. I come bearing bad news, so I really need your prayers and good thoughts. My mom was the family member I had been talking about. I didn't want to say who it was just because I didn't feel like talking about it. She got the call this morning, and she has breast cancer. On the good news front though, it is very small, non-invasive, and differentiated. The radiologist thinks she might not even need radiation, just surgery to remove it. I am really upset and worried (and we still don't know what the second area is), so please pray for me too. I know it could've been much worse though, so I am grateful and praying prayers of thanks right now. Please pray that they treat her fully and correctly. And on my end, please pray that the genetic factor doesn't come into play in my life and I don't get it as well. Thank y'all. Y'all have been a great help to me, and I'm going to need your support in the weeks ahead.

Just wanted to say "Hello" to the Conservative thread.
Im 38 and a Professional Firefighter/Medic. (another Republican Union member)
I am married and have 2 children 3 and 1 years of age. My wife is also a disney nut (but me mostly).
I am an optimist through and through. And, i will remain optimistic concerning our (the USA's) future despite the recent election loss.
I believe that in the end, we will prevail and regain our footing.
I am a Republican mostly because i believe the Republican party most represents the "core" principals that our founding fathers had and wanted this Nation to become.
i am also pro-life. and a Veteran of the USAF.
Yep, i STILL support G.W. and am hoping for a great candidate in '12
Regards,Shawn

awww....I was wondering if you had heard by now....I'm sorry to hear this...like Hockeymom Deb, I have a friend who went through the same thing this past summer and did very well. She went through two surgeries and an intensive week of chemo/radiation - but she did really well and shows no sign of cancer. One thing that helped her was her age - she's in her mid-70s - this kept the cancer from spreading so quickly [something about hormones ???].

I'll be praying -- and giving lots of  your way...your mom has so much going for her - two of the biggest are her faith and her loving family - a hard combination to beat.

DEMING: Global warming freeze?
David Deming
COMMENTARY:

President-elect Barack Obama recently declared his intention to mitigate global warming by enacting a cap-and-trade policy that would reduce carbon emissions 80 percent by the year 2050.

But the last two years of global cooling have nearly erased 30 years of temperature increases. To the extent that global warming ever existed, it is now officially over.

This year began with a severe spell of winter weather in China. Observers characterized it as the largest natural disaster to hit China in decades. By the end of January, blizzards and cold temperatures had killed 60 people and caused millions to lose electric service. Nearly a million buildings were damaged and airports had to close. Hong Kong had the second-longest cold spell since 1885. A temperature of 33.6 degrees Fahrenheit was barely higher than the record low of 32 degrees F set in 1893.
Other countries in Asia also experienced record cold. In February, cold in the northern half of Vietnam wiped out 40 percent of the rice crop and killed 33,000 head of livestock. In India, the city of Mumbai recorded the lowest temperatures of the last 40 years. Across India, there was more frost damage to crops than at any other time in the last 30 years.
In the United States, the weather also was frigid. The city of International Falls, Minn,, whose official nickname is the "icebox of the nation," set a new record low temperature of minus 40 degrees F, breaking the old record of minus 37 F established in 1967.

Alaska experienced an unusually cold and wet summer. For the first time since the 18th century, Alaskan glaciers grew instead of retreating. In Fairbanks, October was the fourth coldest in 104 years of record. Last month in Reading, Pa., the temperature stayed below 40 degrees F for six consecutive days - the longest November cold spell there since 1903.

These cold weather events were not abnormal or isolated incidents. Global measures of climatic conditions indicate significant cooling.

A preliminary estimate by the British Met Office says 2008 will be the coldest year of the last 10. The extent of global sea ice is at the same level it was in 1980. The mean planetary temperature, as monitored by satellite, also is the same as in 1980.

Last March, NASA reported the oceans have been cooling for the last five years. Sea level has stopped rising, and Northern Hemisphere cyclone and hurricane activity is at a 24-year low.

Environmental extremists and global warming alarmists are in denial and running for cover. Their rationale for continuing a lost cause is that weather events in the short term are not necessarily related to long-term climatic trends. But these are the same people who screamed at us each year that ordinary weather events such as high temperatures or hurricanes were undeniable evidence of imminent doom.

Now that global warming is over, politicians are finally ready to enact dubious solutions to a non-existent problem. In Britain, Parliament is intrepidly forging ahead with a bold new plan to cool the climate, even as London experienced its first October snowfall since 1934 and Ireland went through the coldest October in the last 70 years.

This is an absurd spectacle. Our advanced civilization is being systematically mismanaged by technologically illiterate lawyers responding to political pressures from irrational fanatics. Would someone please tell these people it is impossible to overturn the laws of thermodynamics?

We cannot improve our economy by artificially forcing people to use expensive, unreliable and inefficient energy sources.

Let the politicians take note. People will not like what you have in mind. California is arguably the most liberal state. Yet last month they defeated, by nearly a 2-to-1 margin, a law that would have forced California utilities to obtain half their electric power from renewable sources. What the Obama administration proposes is much more radical. Their cap-and-trade proposal will dramatically increase the energy costs of the average consumer and likely drive our crippled economy into a severe depression.

To the extent global warming was ever valid, it is now officially over. It is time to file this theory in the dustbin of history, next to Aristotelean physics, Neptunism, the geocentric universe, phlogiston, and a plethora of other incorrect scientific theories, all of which had vocal and dogmatic supporters who cited incontrovertible evidence.

Weather and climate change are natural processes beyond human control. To argue otherwise is to deny the factual evidence.

Many, many  to you SD. I will keep you, your mom, and your family in my thoughts and prayers. My stepdaughter has been battling breast cancer since last year so I understand how difficult it is for you right now. I'm sure your being there for your mom at this very difficult time means a lot to her.

Welcome, Shawn! The people on this thread are great! And it is true about not trying to keep up. Just jump on in!

Today is our wedding anniversary! Whether we want to call it our 24th or 23rd depends on what you consider... LOL Lets just say we've both spent more of our life married to each other than not! We'll be going to our usual favorite restaurant. If I order the wine flight with dinner... prepare for weird postings later. DH has to go to work tomorrow so that leaves me on Christmas break posting schedule!

Happy anniversary!!! So tell me, what is a wine flight? I'm clueless.

Today is our "goodbye to fast food" night. We've decided to be more conservative in our spending and tighten the wallet on things we really don't need. Fast food is one of them. I have found that, especially this month, we have relied on fast food and pizza too much. I need to get back in the groove and get cooking again. :)

I like your idea of a "goodbye to fast food" night. Now I can feel better about the 2 slices of pepperoni pizza I had for dinner! :rotfl: I was trying to behave and failed miserably. But there's always tomorrow to start anew.

You beat me to the punch on that one! I was just about to post that news. Oh well, I do have something else though - in honor of transparant's return - interesting trivia about our favorite brand new grandmother --

The media and Democrats might hate Sarah Palin, but her 2009 calendar is currently the number one best selling office product at Amazon.com.

Just imagine how this must be galling liberal press members who can't understand her popularity.

Of course, the cynic -- or the realist depending on your point of view -- might believe that media very much understand why she's so popular, and that's why they hate her so much.

Welcome, Shawn!

Sorcererdonald>> Continued prayers for your mother and your whole family. A very close coworker just went through the same thing, right down to not getting test results back soon. She came through the surgery with flying colors.. no chemo needed, and was back to work way before they thought she would be.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Hey Soarin, I thought you would get a kick out of this one. Glenn Beck and his radio staff are off on vacation till Jan 5. Every couple of days they have been posting photoshopped pics of Glenn and his producer Stu up on the site as if they are vacationing together. Today's pic is a little disturbing in that Stu appears to have turned into a female over vacation, but at least they are in the happiest place on earth:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: they are having way too much fun this week...

Donna -- can I borrow your cute little emoticon dreaming of Disney? With less than a month to go, I am dreaming of Disney - only my dreams are the creepy don't-want-to-come-true kind, maybe they'll get better.

Is anyone watching BOR?? Ok, so when the pics came out of Obama on the beach, my first thought was if the paparazzi could focus a camera on him, what would stop a gunman from aiming a rifle. Now there is speculation that the whole thing was staged because no way would the secret service let him be exposed in such a way unless they wanted the pics taken and shown. It's not a big deal, but I just think it's amusing. I'm not sure what would be the benefit for him. One pundit thinks that it will give people the impression he is more accessible. I know that after seeing his scrawny bones, I feel closer to him already.:rotfl:

i think it was obviously staged, and it was creepy. i respect a president who wears clothing.

I know. The picture kinda made go :scared: a bit. He acts like a celebrity rather than a leader.

you're absolutely right! he went to the beach alone, knowing he will have less leisure time with his family for the next four years? and he'd walk directly towards the photographer? ummmm.....no. that photo wasn't taken by the paps, it was taken by a hired photographer, i'm sure. and he looks scrawny. put on some clothes for cryin' out loud. gross.

They're out of stock.

I'm glad that Bristol and Tripp are doing well. Did you see the thread where they're already saying that his name is too "close" to Trig's name, so it must be something "funny" going on? :sad2: Some people have no life is all I can say about that!

and dig what is being said about him sans shirt...

The sun glinted off chiseled pectorals sculpted during four weightlifting sessions each week, and a body toned by regular treadmill runs and basketball games.”

Michelle Malkin has an interesting column about the difference between the press covering H's physical fitness compared to that of GWB --

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/12/27/tale-of-two-presidential-workout-fanatics/

Apparently, GWB's quest for fitness was fascist but H? His workout regimen just proves what an amazing leader he is...oh brother....

Also, about the pics - these were worthy of front page news while the H/Blago connection was worthy of only page 3....is it any wonder newspapers are going down the tubes?
