Thanks.

I've been following your posts on that "Are we a Christian nation?" thread and I give you a round of applause!!!:goodvibes You're fighting hard for what you (and me, from your posts) believe in. I'm proud of you for standing up for your beliefs even when bullied by those people. I've noticed they have no problem defending their beliefs but won't listen when someone else defends theirs. How's that for tolerance?:sad2:

I agree. I'm too timid for these hot topic threads, so I try to avoid them. However, those who defend themselves get a round of applause from me.

This is our society as a whole – victims.

Earlier in this thread ethnicity as brought up as some will play a victim card; but the truth is – we’re a society full of victim card players. Whites can’t use the victim card in regards to their ethnicity but they can find something else applicable to them in order to pull that card.

This is a reflection of our declining society as a whole; everyone wants to be a victim. No one wants to accept blame for their own failure and mistakes but to be able to point the finger at someone else. No one wants to work and strive for their dreams but instead they want it handed to them.

I don’t have children, but is it true that on a lot of sports teams in today's society everyone, including the losing team, will get trophies and praises? What does that teach the kids about healthy competition and to work hard in order to achieve something? If you’re handed something you’re sure not going to work hard for anything and that will lead to all areas of your life.

Our society, as a whole; every person, every color, every religion, every sexual orientation, needs to stop playing the blame game when their life isn’t moving in the direction that they want and re-learn what the terms “hard work” and “great achievements” mean. Our society, as a whole, is too lazy to want that and their kids are being brought up to work little and blame hard. It is in their laziness that they use a “victim card” as a crutch – and there are many victim cards that can apply to everyone of all colors, all genders, all religions and all sexual orientations.

Agreed. This is something else I want to do a research project on eventually. I just don't know how I'm going to go about it.

98% of the people that the DH and I hang out with often are liberal. I figure that is what happens when you live somewhere like Seattle. I've learned just not to talk politics to some of them. It's just an exercise in futility.

Welcome to the thread!!!

oh, doncha remember? abe lincoln freed the slaves. remember that "history: the sequel" won't show that the war between the states was fought to prevent the south from seceding from the union. it will say that the war was fought to free the slaves. and the confederate flag is evil.

lincoln.

I can understand the madness, but it still reeks of publicity stuntiness. Not a fan of the re-write of history. The fact is that slavery became a symbol of the conflict, and the freeing of slaves turned the tide, but it was never JUST about freeing the slaves. Yeesh. I need a valium every time I hear that.

Okay all, just thought I'd say hi. I have class and work now, so I'm missing a lot.

Oh well, I'l have more to talk about now. Have fun, all!!

Hey everyone! I am THRILLED to have found the conservative/Republican thread! It seems like we are in the minority these days, but the truth is we're usually just quiet so we're not slammed all the time about Bush, the war, etc.

A little about me, at 21 this was the first Presidential election I was able to vote in. I also became very heavily involved as a volunteer, and am continuing my work by being a member of our county's Republican Executive Committee and starting a youth outreach program for teens to educate them about the truth of our party and what it stands for (tax hating, gun toting, god loving Republicans! J/K we talk history, policy, etc :) ). I have been married for 2 1/2 years and we're thinking about starting a family next year...and I don't want my kids to grow up in a socialist society.

I am frankly afraid of what will conspire in the next 2 years. I say 2 because in 2010 the GOP is going to kick some donkey in the Senate elections when everyone realizes just what "civilian militia" and "share the wealth" really means.

That article about the ammunition is scary and stupid for several reasons. Scary: they are essentially removing our right to protect ourselves, not to mention the ammunition that needs to be destroyed? How will they find that? Oh, wait, yeah that civilian militia Obama wants...Stupid: Um, bullets usually don't make it out of a person in pristine condition, they are flattened. How are they going to get these little numbers off them? Someone could steal you're specially coded ammo. Criminals aren't getting the guns they use legally. Do they think they are buying the ammo at their local Wal Mart? Get real.

So...on the lighter side I have two cats and a dog, like to scrapbook, craft and crochet, love all things Disney and go to WDW roughly once a month. I work at a bank and like to just hang out with my hubby.

OMG!!! YESSSS!!!! Another young conservative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo: WELCOME TO THE THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, to answer Studentmom's question about my undergrad/grad stuff - undergrad was Elementary Ed/ grad was Information Sciences

'course he isn't black. he's mulatto. the whole world is forgetting he is half white.

i'm getting annoyed with these commercials for everything talking about the first "african-american" president, or about the upcoming historic inauguration.

first of all, he hasn't proved that he's american. i never refer to myself with my heritage first, then "american". i'm an american and he'd better be too.

second, if people REALLY REALLY want everybody to stop focusing on race, they ought to start now and stop focusing on his color(s). it is simply idiotic and contrary to what people SAY they want.

third, i think they're all historic. we are very fortunate. this inauguration won't be any more historic than all the others. they are ALL historic.

this wasn't directed at you personally....i just needed to say it.

Took the words right out of my brain, wonder -- it's killing me to see all of the hoopla for someone who is such a sham....

Some groups don't want equality. Their agenda is to punish, not be equals. But they are equals. And unfortunately some just refuse to admit that era of suppression is over.

So true - and we're seeing the second/third generations of the victimology - I'm not sure if these folks would even know how NOT to be a victim.

Hey, where's my PM? Did you forget me so soon?;)

me too me too - I want the link to your blog!!!!! pretty please with a cherry on top?????

excellent point. then they'd be subject to the same credit lending requirements and then have to pay their mortgages. :scared1:

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

They're some bunch, aren't they? People like me drive them absolutely crazy. When I don't say the exact thing that fits into their preconceived notion, they just pretend I did! :lmao:

They're some pretty good athletes though, all those leaping to conclusions and twisting people's words....they must be in great shape!!!

:lmao: :lmao:

Hi Guys
Its so hard to keep up
You all talk so much at night and Im usually in bed and asleep by 8pm
Im getting really excited, my vacation is in 19 days
YEAH
Not much else is going on
Just plugging along

Hey there - we need to start planning our mini-con meet soon. I'll be at WDW in 10 days!!!!

A little off-topic...

I'm getting books to read on the plane (long flight). Has anyone read any of Joel Rosenberg's books? ("The Last Jihad," etc.) He's an evangelical Christian with a Jewish background. I saw him on Precepts for Life.

Anyone read Francine Rivers? ("The Mark of the Lion" trilogy). I couldn't put those down.

Also, does anyone watch/read Kay Arthur Precepts for Life? I like that kind of Bible Study. Makes me want to really dig in and learn.

Oh...and I'm really leaning towards those AP's...wow, that will make things really flexible on our trip.

I have several friends who really like Rosenberg's books -- I'm not sure about them myself - apocalyptic books about war in the Middle East, etc kinda make me a little :scared1:

I do want to read/listen to McCullough's book about John Adams - thanks for the great reviews.

About the AP -- I'd have to get it under cover of darkness, my traveling pals will surely think I've gone off the Disney deep end.

Have they done that yet again?? :confused3

... I need to get caught up over here.

I've begun to notice that they like to re-write history. The fact is; this country was founded on religion. In today's society, religion isn't such a big factor like it was back then. But just because you personally don't believe in religion, you can't go and change a fact.

But, yeah, I’ve noticed a huge intolerance from those screaming for tolerance the loudest. Let’s see… we had the courthouse holiday displays in that one city. They didn’t want the nativity scene, despite that all religions and beliefs were allowed to put up a display and not just the Christians, and some of the atheist went out of their way with their display in attempts to overshadow the nativity scene. Only the Christians were targeted in that. I can’t recall the details; but I think there was a thread on it.

There’s always a thread on something around here.

Oh, and the eharmony lawsuit? Just how many homosexual dating sites are out there? – but that’s not good enough? They just had to target one that is more geared towards Christians. So, should the Christians sue the homosexual sites for discrimination? Should the Jews? Should all of the heterosexuals? Different websites cater to different types of people, there’s something for everyone!, and the fact that eharmony was sued showed intolerance on the part of the ones that sued them!

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: Great to read your wonderful posts again, Dolce - welcome back friend.

i found that whole thing a total abomination. putting up a display for winter solstice is fine; heck it was winter. but the display made disparaging remarks about a different belief and other display. i considered it to be discriminatory against christians and the penultimate, obnoxious display of intolerance.

that wasn't so much about christianity (they provide the opportunity to choose christian, jewish, atheist, agnostic, spiritual but not christian.....)as it was about being a site that would have to set up an entirely different category, at its own expense, to accommodate a protected group. but you're right about the lawsuit, 'cause how many HETEROsexuals are going to register at a homosexual site and complain that they don't fit and so never get a match? as for why christians and/or others don't sue the homosexual sites? it is because we haven't any reason to force society to accept us into a club where we don't fit. only somebody needing to make a statement would do such a thing. also, heterosexuals are not a protected class...in other words, you won't see a law about hate crimes or discrimination towards single white HETEROsexual women.

Wonder, you are ON IT, girlfriend! Absolutely, positively true.

Caught up now...

:scared1:

How did you bypass me in your post number? I've been on here since 2006 - you only 2008?

humph!

:snooty:

Soarin' bypassed me about the second day she posted! She is all over the place - I've been cyber thread-chasing her! he he he

And I want to, as a political minority [in least in the national government], be careful NOT to adopt that victim mentality - I think we [collectively] have a lot to blame for all this - if our peeps in DC had been less conciliatory, especially towards GWB's spending habits, for example, we might not have had a moderate as our candidate and might have had more ammunition against BHO. Who knows? I just know, at this point, that I don't want for us to keep making the same mistakes [although I see very little evidence of this :sad2: ]

And I want to be careful NOT to play that pesky victim card - my life isn't exactly what I dreamed of, yet it is the life God has given me - He's a lot smarter than I am and I know that those less-than-desirable elements of my life [which could include our future as a nation] are there for a reason.

I'll preface the comments with stating I haven't read the book. However, it's so very true. The founding fathers believed in freedom OF religion -- not freedom FROM religion. It's a distinction that I think a lot of people either don't get or conveniently forget.

Btw, first time responder in this thread. Now to see if I can keep up with things. Stuff moves so quickly here it seems!

 Welcome - love your avatar!

lincoln.

Added to this, Lincoln took away state's rights and gave a ton of them to the feds....hmmm, well maybe I can see a bit of a connection now.

second answer: 'cause there isn't anything left from the clintons to copy.

Who's in charge of vetting? And the guy in charge of IRS shouldn't have tax issues right?

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama's choice to run the Treasury Department and lead the economic rescue effort disclosed to senators Tuesday that he failed to pay $34,000 in taxes from 2001 to 2004, a last-minute complication in an otherwise smooth path to confirmation.

Timothy Geithner paid most of the past-due taxes days before Obama announced his nomination in November, an Obama transition official said. The unpaid taxes were discovered by Obama's transition team while investigating Geithner's background, the official said.

The transition official requested anonymity because the source was not authorized to discuss Geithner's situation.

Obama reiterated his support Tuesday for Geithner as senators who are considering the appointment quizzed Geithner behind closed doors.

Geithner failed to pay self-employment taxes for money he earned while working for the International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2003, the transition official said. In 2006, the IRS notified him that he owed $14,847 in self-employment taxes and $2,383 in penalties from 2003 and 2004.

Transition officials discovered last fall that Geithner also had not paid the taxes in 2001 or 2002. He paid $25,970 in taxes and interest for those years several days before Obama announced his nomination, the transition official said.

Welcome to you, too! Great article - funny how the dems keep getting away with things like this....

As you guys all know... you're WAY TOO HARD to keep up with! Doing my cold weather check in (It is currently two degrees) with my still destroyed foot/ankle/toe. Work has been going well, but it really wears me out when its so hard to get from place to place and I did ignore all "restrictions" because I'd really like to:
1. Keep my job
2. Be seen as the team player I am
3.Do my job!

Have a great week!

Welcome back - you've got a great attitude about all of this. Hopefully this will soon be a funny story and the hobbling will be a thing of the past.

Welcome! It's great to have another young person (I'm old - I just turned 30 two weeks ago :teeth:) on here that understands politics! I didn't give a care about the subject until this year. :sad2:

By any chance do you know how to do a photobook on Shutterfly?

You gotta share that valium, I need it too. :headache:

Oh, good evening, by the way!:upsidedow Have a good day??:flower3:

I'm actually back now, at least for a few minutes. My day was long, busy, and scary. I'm a little scared of a few of my courses. Oh well. On top of that, I feel very broke, and scared for my parents. They're going to be paying a lot this semester for my school. At least it's the last one. I'm making Bagel bites now. It's all good. :goodvibes

freeing the slaves was an excellent tactic. plantations depended upon this type of labor. once the laborers were gone, plantations failed (one of my ancestors (ben ogle) was bankrupt as a result and he was not the only one). this was absolutely intentional, and it worked. my ancestors released 41 slaves. they didn't all know what to do, so they became paid servants and laborers. they had always been treated well, had food, clothing, warmth, and somebody to take care of them. so they stayed.

unfortunately, in an attempt to make those of us living hundreds of years later feel guilty for something we couldn't possibly have any responsibility for, children have been told for years that freeing slaves was the purpose of the war between the states. guilt is a ridiculous emotion to attempt to conjur over this (and claiming the u.s. territories from indians), when that is simply the way things were then. that is how things were.

i have a cd with the ORIGINAL lyrics from aladdin. do you guys remember when the arab community was up in arms because they thought the lyrics were unfair, "where they cut off your head if they don't like your face, is barbaric, but hey, it's home"? i was gobsmacked when disney folded and changed the lyrics. not only do the lyrics reflect the situation at the time, as we've so very sadly seen, it is the way things are still done.

who do people think they're fooling?

You would think NY is liberal, but Western & Upstate is pretty conservative, so that's nice :)

Unrelated: I was just talking to my boyfriend, who owns a shotgun... He heard this at work, what do you all think? I know that just because you call yourself a conservative you don't always side with the NRA, but I thought I'd get some opinions... (In otherwords I know a lot of liberals in support of the NRA too...)

Ammunition Accountability Legislation

Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana ) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers.
Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo.) They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more!

If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!

This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

Send to your friends in these states AND fight to dissolve this BILL!!

To find more about the anti-gun group that is sponsoring this legislation and the specific legislation for each state, go to:
http://ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm

Thanks for the info. I've written both my state rep and senator voicing my opposition to this bill.

You've explained it perfectly, but I want to add one more thing. There are many sources who say Lincoln was as racist as everyone else. This proves that he didn't free the slaves just because it was the right thing to do. He did it to save the country. The slaves were merely pawns in that whole ordeal.

Don't get me wrong. I think Lincoln was a wonderful man who was a brilliant president and great human being, but his brilliance is being misconstrued to fit a certain message.

Bagel bites and pizza rolls can make everything all better. :thumbsup2

I would like some Long John Silvers, and DH was supposed to take me last night but it didn't happen so last night said he'd take me tonight. Tonight he's at the movies with our boarder; they're seeing Gran Terino. Said he'd take me for lunch tomorrow or Thursday. I said before he left, "We're on for tomorrow, right?" He said, "Or the day after". Which means it'll probably be awhile more before he takes me.
