It's been kind of crazy this weekend. My Mom fell and broke a rib (ouch!), so it looks like DW and I will be doing a bunch of the stuff my mom usually does for Christmas. I thought I was all done shopping and cooking. Just when I think I'm out they pull me back in!

I hope she feels better fast zip. :goodvibes

Hello everyone! You all are hilarious tonight! Silly Cons...

This sounds delicious. Do you think it would survive an almost 3 hr drive? Maybe I could whip it together at my house transport it in the cooler and toss it in my MIL's oven when we get there.

It should MM.
I use those hot & cold bags they sell at the grocery store. They keep foods either hot or cold for a few hours with no ice needed. Those things are the best invention.

*waving* Good morning! Warning.. don't go outside. The wind might have fiinally stopped, but the clouds went away and to say its cold... well, everyone but blestmom will agree with me! 2 isn't a good number. I hate squeaky snow!

Ink on coat.. aquanet hairspray. Really. Spray it all over and throw in wash. Ink gone!

Zip>> Sorry to hear about your mom! I hope she has a smooth recovery.

I was just going to post about the great BBQ we had last night after the hockey game. It was only Famous Daves, but we were the ONLY people in the entire restaurant. All that hot sauce was a great way to warm up! Now I can't. Craving for pierogies again! LOL

Just in case anyone was keeping track. AIG and all the other companies in the first bailout stll have their jet FLEETS. GM and Chrysler will be selling their jet.

OH OHHH its THREE degrees now! HEAT WAVE!

I need to finish my Christmas shopping and food buying today. Tonight we're taking DD out for her 23rd bday. Tomorrow we have to go across town to the city for another hockey game. 24th will be Christmas Eve at my dad's house per usual, with Christmas Day at his dad's, though I haven't had confirmation on that its been done for 24 years this way. Do you think we can ask for another week before Christmas? I'm not done yet!

I knew there was a reason I needed to buy some Aqua Net. :rolleyes1 Aqua Net - not just for big hair.

All those corporations piss me off. Get rid of your jets, your bonuses, your spa trips. Stop being greedy and selfish. End of story.

It's 19 here. 3 degrees - OMG :scared: .

Blestmom- I used to live in Vegas. But I always asume people are going to gamble. That's all my family wanted to do when they came and visited. :rolleyes1

So, all those little jelly things dried up. Easy to vacuum out! Yippee!!! :yay:
:laundy: OK - got major work to do today. Inlaws coming Wed to stay over. Big party on Sat. Gotta get cracka lackin'!

:goodvibes :santa:

Since you guys have been reading all Glenn's stories....if you haven't listened to him tell the Christmas story...
http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/19502/?ck=1

This is sort of an "annual tradition" at my house. We love the way he tells it. He also does the Easter story each Easter, and A Telltale Heart at Halloween. The man has some serious talent. :lovestruc

We all listen to it all of those around here as well. Glenn is such a good storyteller!

:santa:

Yup, listened to it and read it and loved it, but who's surprised.:goodvibes Haha, to hear him do A Telltale Heart would be hysterical. I love that story.:cool1: Talent, yes.... he's a freaking genius, is more how I'd put it.

So how is everyone this morning? I just rolled out of bed and came straight here.

Good morning!
I know a while back we were talking about Veggie Tales and all the talk about pierogies (sp?) and things made me think...does anyone listen to the Veggie Tales Christmas CD, when they're waiting for Oscar the Polish caterer to show up? My kids LOVE that CD-it's so funny! The youngest loves it when Pa Grape tells Bob "Ya got any Ritz Bits?" :lmao:

Oh yeah...I forgot about that! We used to listen to that...I'll have to pull it out again.

*waving* Good morning! Warning.. don't go outside. The wind might have fiinally stopped, but the clouds went away and to say its cold... well, everyone but blestmom will agree with me! 2 isn't a good number. I hate squeaky snow!

It's only -8 degrees this morning...I've got to go warm up my van to take DS to basketball practice. Better than the -18 last week...

Blestmom- I used to live in Vegas. But I always asume people are going to gamble. That's all my family wanted to do when they came and visited. :rolleyes1

I apologize to anyone who lives in Las Vegas...but...it's just not 'my kind of town.' I don't like the downtown area and gambling and all that. I remember taking my boys there in their early teen years, and wow! I couldn't avert their eyes enough...the videos splashed all over the walls at the airport and just driving...yikes! Plus the sound of 'ca-ching, ca-ching, ca-ching' everywhere you went drove me crazy...not just downtown but the grocery story, movie theatre...etc.

Anyway, just not the place for me. So her little retirement community suits me just fine. But you're right...most people when they hear you're going to Las Vegas assume you're going gambling...

Maybe should start saying I'm going to Summerlin, Nevada. Hm...

I knew I liked him. He really gets it, doesn't he? I swear I love that guy.

Oh I do love the guy. :rotfl: Why do you think every sentence I type with his name in it ends in a  ? Four weeks from today his new show starts on Fox- sheesh, hurry up and pass, you four weeks!!! ;)

Question:
You know how there were some new liberal posters who "appeared" mysteriously a few months ago?
I received an email notification from one who's tag says Proud single dad.
There were pictures attached. This is the link:

Notice the highlighted name. There was a liberal poster from GA whose user name was the same and she was proud single mom, coincidence or not???

LOL, Robin my girlfriend and we use the same photobucket account sometime. She introduced me to this site back in 2002 but left because of the nastiness here. I don't quite blame her.

There are some really nice ones but there used to be a group that was really unnecessarily evil. I think most of them are gone. I don't mind it here at all but I don't let people get to me the way she does. She only goes to media sites now. I couldn't miss the election stuff here which is now dwindling away. Oh well. :confused3

I still have an ext-FM who lives in Summerlin. And Red Rock casino is right there. :rolleyes1 So , that might not work......
We used to like to go to 'The Egg and I' for breakfast.

I know what you mean though about the atmosphere of Vegas itself. It was a shock for us to see people gambling in Walmart, gas stations, etc. And I'm not a big fan of downtown. Although we did used to like to go to The Attic, that is the best thrift store in the whole world. Where else can you find second hand Elvis costumes and show girl outfits? :thumbsup2

Did you say -18 degrees? :faint: You out to be nice and warm in Vegas then.

:grouphug: to your mom - and boo on more shopping/cooking - that's the bad thing about Christmas, even simple shopping takes forever because of the crowds and there always seems to be something else to do....funny how far away that is from that little baby in the manger....

That reminds me...do you guys remember me making a comment in one of our PC discussions that my dad hates to be called a Native American and insists on being called an Indian, because (among other reasons) it allows him to tell people he is FBI (Full Blooded Indian)? I was up at the gas station at the top of my road and they had black T shirts that say FBI on them. And they had them in 2X! I bought one for him for Christmas. :) He's going to laugh. I'm looking forward to giving it to him!

I do remember that - and isn't it great to find that perfect gift? Good daughter points coming your way!

santa wrapped all of our presents, but i could tell he made my parents write the to/from tags.

That Santa sure is a shrewd one...

:rotfl2: who's on first?

:rotfl: :rotfl:

HA!
hey...how's baby dog?

I was wondering that, too!

ARTICHOKE - SPINACH CASSEROLE

1 stick butter, softened
2 sm. pkgs. cream cheese
1 can artichokes
2 boxes frozen spinach
Salt (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
Progresso bread crumbs

(I also add Parm cheese and mozzarella to this)

Cook spinach according to package instructions. Stir into hot spinach the butter and cream cheese. Place mixture into 1 1/2-quart casserole; season to taste. Arrange sliced artichokes on top; cover with seasoned bread crumbs. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until bubbly.

My mom made this every Christmas - this was what made me like spinach. One Christmas, though, Mom made it -- I got a big blob of it, took a bite and said, 'wow, it's pretty spinach-y.' She tried it and said, 'Oh, I forgot the sour cream [she used that instead of cream cheese]. Oh and I forgot the Parmesan cheese...oh, and the eggs...and the artichoke hearts. Oops!' :rotfl:

Hey, JB - what did your DH find out this weekend about his job?

From the Mudville Gazette - Merry Christmas from the grinches in the MSM...

Everyone in America Liked Christmas a lot...
But the Grinch, who worked for a "news" service, Did NOT!

The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!
Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think the most likely reason of all
Was his heart (or something) was two sizes too small.

But,
Whatever the reason, His heart or his shoes,
or that this Christmas his future was looking bleak, too
(and "misery loves company" at least, in his view)
he thought he'd kill Christmas with a lot of bad news

"They're hanging their stockings!" he snarled with a sneer,
"Tomorrow is Christmas! It's practically here!"
Then he growled, with his Grinch fingers nervously drumming,
"I MUST find some stories to stop Christmas from coming!"

"This'll do for a start..." The Grinch said, as he clucked,
The global economy is totally - hosed!
"No one's shopping this year, and I'm overjoyed"
"They're lucky to have stockings - they're all unemployed!"

"And with global warming," the Grinch grinch-ish-ly screamed,
"The only White Christmas will be in their dreams!"
"It's a scientific fact - there's no doubt any more!"
"Only fools celebrate Christmas but deny Al Gore"

Then he slithered and slunk, with a smile most unpleasant,
Around the newsroom, and he laughed at the "peasants".
He looked for a story of deaths in a fire,
when suddenly Baghdad news lit up the wire.

"hmmm...", said the Grinch, "maybe over on page two...
"No, what am I thinking? That will never do."
Then he tossed those reports right into the trash can
and Googled the death toll from Afghanistan

He filed his stories with a gleam in his eyes
"Tonight's work should get me a Pulitzer prize!"
But his head hurt from all of that serious thinking,
so he sat himself down and he started to drinking...

The next day, quite hungover, he slowly awoke,
but smiled and cackled, grabbed the cable remote
"Pooh-Pooh to the fools!" he was grinch-ish-ly humming.
"They're finding out now that no Christmas is coming!"
"They're just waking up! Then they'll see the news!"
"Their mouths will hang open a minute or two,
Then the sheepleville sheeple will all cry Boo-Hoo!"

grnch2a.jpg"That's a sight and a sound that I MUST hear and see!"
So he cranked the surround on his HDTV.
And he did hear a sound rising on the news show.
It started in low.
Then it started to grow...

But the sound wasn't sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn't be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!

He stared down at America! The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!

Everyone cross the nation, the tall and the small,
were singing! Without any real cares at all!

He HADN'T stopped Christmas from coming! IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!

And the Grinch, with his grinchy-head pounding in pain,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "They must be insane!"
"I know - they're too stupid! They don't realize!
It's me that they need just to open their eyes!"

And what happened then...? Well...there's some who might say
That the Grinch's small heart shrunk three sizes that day!

'Cause he pulled all the shades and he locked up the door,
and started drooling and scheming, and typing some more

When into his inbox a reminder plopped
that caused him to pause, then he totally stopped

His boss sent a memo that he felt was cruel
But it stated for certain there was just one rule

And he knew it was wise, and follow it he would:
"After January 20 all the news must be good"

"I'm no dummy," he sneered, "they won't be showing me the door"
"At least not while I'm leasing a new Audi A4"

So you folks in America can take it from me
Next year will be better
As seen on TV.

There's a video at this link:

Looks like Chris Matthews has decided NOT to run for the Senate:

There are indications that a decision could come soon, sometime before Inaugural Day on January 20. But MSNBC president Phil Griffin declined late last week to say whether that's true.

"I've talked to Chris. I think he's going to be here for a long time," Griffin said. "I want him to be here for a long time." Griffin said that there would be "clarity" soon.

I was looking forward to Arlen Specter blowing him out of the water...I guess Tingly is waiting for another posh job in DC...

Just wanted to say hi to everyone! I just found the community board and when I saw this thread I figured I'd be welcome :) I'm sure I'll pop on now and again!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Hey, JB - what did your DH find out this weekend about his job?

Nothing yet. He feels like the board review went really well, so he is optimistic, but....this IS the government we are talking about, and seeing as how the job was POSTED back in August, and it took them until December to narrow down the applicant pool to the ones that they brought before the board....if they make a choice by my birthday (February 10--same as Glenn Becks:lovestruc ) then I guess I should consider that a speedy selection....He's got a 1 in 4 chance this time of getting it.

On the (sort of) postitive note though, they are filling 2 slots, an E5, and an E6. DH is an E5. All of the applicants except for one for the E6 slot are currently holding E5 jobs, waiting to promote, so if one of them gets the E6 job, then another slot in DH's rank will open up, but we'll have to go through this whole process all over again for it if he doesn't get it this time around.
