Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

You guys, check this out, this is so weird.

Do you remember me mentioning that when I went to vote I wasn't on the poll registration? My husband was, but I wasn't. They gave me a provisional ballot, checked and recorded my ID, and let me vote.

Today I got a letter from the registrar. It said that my provisional ballot had been received, and that a review of records shows that my voter registration had been cancelled per my request. I never requested any such thing! WTH??? So that means that my vote was tossed out, right? I did NOT cancel my registration. I wonder how many other people this happened to, and HOW? They sent me a form to re-register. Well great. As long as someone doesn't cancel for me again, I guess I'll be eligible to vote against the chosen one in four years, huh?

I should have followed up when I wasn't on the register during the primaries and had to vote provisionally then. I assumed for some reason my info just hadn't gotten moved to this district when I moved. That's my own fault. But why didn't I get a letter THEN instead of nothing until after my actual presidential vote was tossed out? Grrrrr.

Government bureaucracies are just entirely dysfunctional! Instead of assuming someone canceled your registration on your behalf, I think a safer assumption would be a bureaucratic snafu, which was then "explained" by the bureaucrat in the simplest way possible — a way that always blames the taxpayer. Always. This is why I continue to be astonished — I mean genuinely astonished — that some people in this country want to put their health care in the hands of the government. Can you just imagine the "explanations" they'll give when they screw that up? No, we can't. Cuz we'll be dead.

Oh yeah. I live in Washington. Half an hour north of Olympia, you know, the capitol that put an anti-God sign next to a Nativity scene?

Funny how they want Christians to be tolerate of their beliefs but they are not tolerant of Christian beliefs.

I think that a mass majority of those people have "it's all about me" syndrome.

Whew, thanks everyone. I didn't even think about the universal health care issue, the last thing on my mind! So there is a belief that Conservatives do not want people to have health care? I don't remember that from my Conservative days! I don't like the idea of universal health care, myself.


But you all are very welcoming, maybe I'll stick around and get assimilated!


And why do people want to ban Nativities? There are many holidays around this time of year, why would we ban symbols of any of them? No Nativities, no Menorahs, no Yule logs, no whatever symbol that represents your beliefs? Seems silly. I wish people worked as hard to stop war, work at an animal shelter, feed the homeless and hungry, helping their fellow man. Go volunteer where the good you do makes a difference in someone's life.

I believe in separation of church and state, but I think things get a little ridiculous. If the state is using The Bible or Christianity to write laws, starts making me go to church, or telling me that I have to follow the tenets of Christianity, that would be wrong and I would fight it. Putting out a decorative Nativity just does not seem something to get your knickers in a twist about.

I'm off to read.

I'm sure you're right, loco, and it was just some stupid mistake. I sure wish they'd sent this letter when they got the provisional for the primaries, though, instead of waiting until after the election. That part still makes me really mad.

And please don't make me think about government healthcare. I'm a military brat. I grew up with government healthcare and it was NOT FUN.

Hi Finny. I was reading thru and saw some of your posts. Welcome to the thread! From the post or two of yours that I read it sounds like you're going to fit right in. Contrary to popular opinion, we do not seek unanimity or conformity, just coolness.

I just don't get it with the left sometimes re healthcare. They make it out like conservatives are against healthcare. We're just against make a huge costly beaurocratic mess out of it. I want people to be well. I want them to be happy and whole. Honestly, I wish someobody would think outside the box and show me a way to provide healthcare for the vast majority of citizens. And I don't mean Obama's plan.

Yep. If we are against universal healthcare, it means that we don't want others to have what we all have. Never mind that we DON'T all have it... The point is that we don't think everyone is worthy of healthcare. It's the only possible explanation.

They’re not looking at the picture properly. Our healthcare system, as is, is far from perfect and it does need focus and improvement. Insurance companies do need to be dealt with and be more fair and more providing when someone who has been paying their premiums actually needs their service.

The lib’s think that if the government was handling healthcare everyone would get the type of coverage they need, the treatments they need and we wouldn’t have the current problems of insurance rejection or hassle that we sometimes do have with our current system.

The thing is; they’re wrong. The government taking over healthcare will not guarantee that you will get the medical attention you need or that your medical needs will be financially covered. They will provide some service but they won’t have the money to provide that you get all of the medical attention that you may need.

I guess, what I mean is, for example: My co-worker’s husband’s family lives in Canada. My co-worker’s sister in-law was pregnant. She did a couple of home pregnancy tests and then made a doctor’s apt. to get a blood test to be certain and to begin doing what she needed to do (like began taking pre-natal vitamins, ect). The doctor’s office wouldn’t give her a blood test. It cost too much money. That was the reason they gave her for refusing to do blood work. They’d give her a home pregnancy test and that was it.

My doctor ordered a CT scan for me earlier this year. Yeah, we did have to put up a little bit of a fight with the insurance company because they didn’t want to pay for a CT scan. But the doctor felt, after several rounds of blood work, that I needed one to ensure that everything was alright. Under a universal healthcare plan, I’m doubtful that I would have ever had that CT scan.

I’ve learned a lot this past election about universal healthcare either by speaking directly to someone that lives in a country that provides it or to someone that has a family member that lives in a country that provides it. I didn’t understand it before. I thought that universal would be a good thing. I thought everyone having the healthcare provided for them to be a good thing. I didn’t understand how much we’d have to give up in healthcare and medical advances to go on a universal progam. I think we’d have to suffer a lot in preventative medical in order for the government to afford to give everyone just the necessity that they need.

We do need to work on our healthcare system. It does need to be more affordable and accessible to everyone but I don’t believe that government run universal healthcare should be our answer.

Soarin' --I watched A Christmas Story last night...twice. That is my all-time favorite Christmas movie. I could watch it on a loop for days.
