I don't live (or post) to make them "Happy"....or vice versa.

Just smile and No Worries.:goodvibes :dance3:

I know.... but I'm sick of being called names. Don't call HIM names, but call us names. Yep. :sad2:

No worries.... 'scuse me, but in Disney talk that's HAKUNA MATATA!!;)

Actually...isn't that don't call him by HIS OWN name, but call us names?

Some people have lost their minds and civility over the use of the letter "H". :sad2: On an internet discussion board on which people abbreviate everything. :sad2: :sad2: Am I the only one that sees the irony? :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

No, but you might be the only one polite enough to use that particular word. :lmao: ;)

You know. We know that you can't argue with crazy. We know that they come on our thread to pot stir and are probably trying to get us shut down b/c I've lurked enough to know that several of them falsely blame us for having their thread shut down (which we didn't. I'm certain that it was the vulgarity some of them took the thread that night that got them. I want them to have a thread in hopes that they stay off of ours - i have zero desire to get their threads shut down. mod's lurk all on their own. they lurk on this thread to see what we're posting, they lurk on their thread to see what they're posting. it's the mod's job.)

We should just ignore them and Soarin is right: Hakuna Matata. We shouldn't let them rile us so much that we even care that they're upset if we call him BO or BHO or H. They try to make an issue out of it. They try to say it is different than when they called Bush W or dubya or shrub or anything - but it's not. But seriously. Think of the people that are harassing us the most. Think about the things that they've said or implied to us or about us this political election. Do we really care at all that people who've said that kind of stuff about us and to us have a problem with what we post in conversation on this thread or what part of Obama's name we call him by? We really should just ignore.

Some people have lost their minds and civility over the use of the letter "H". :sad2: On an internet discussion board on which people abbreviate everything. :sad2: :sad2: Am I the only one that sees the irony? :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Nope.

Some people have lost their minds and civility over the use of the letter "H". :sad2: :

Somehow, I don't think it's the 8th letter of the alphabet that sends them..."Beyond the Edge of Reason". Surely, it can't be something that small and insignificant?

Honestly, hearing "H" immediately makes me picture David Caruso taking off those sunglasses and saying some one-liner.:lmao:

Methinks, they may have buyer's remorse. Maybe, they want to switch over to the "right" side.:rotfl: ;)

No, you're not....

and I am still bewildered at the squall about your sig, Zip -- you are living in the USA and you are proud of what other AMERICANS have done in the past, allowing you to live the way you do in the USA. Why is this such a big deal? I could understand this type of thing if you were, say, posting on the UK board BUT YOU'RE NOT!!!!!

And, frankly, I'm getting more than a little sick of this word 'offend' - does anyone know what that even means????? Yeah, I may not like the sig of another poster who touts that Reagan was the 'WORST PRESIDENT EVAH' then lists some arguable reasons why but am I offended? No! This poster has the right to his/her opinion however wrong they are. ;)

I want to choose carefully when I use the word 'offend' and, right now, I am offended at this criticism of our address of the POTUS-elect. I use 'H' not as a 'backatcha' term; I use it because I am deeply offended that he won this election -- and I can list several reasons:

---he and Howard Dean cheated HC out of the primary; SHE won the popular vote
---he illegally used funds from outside the US for his campaign [after promising to use public funding]
---he is the most pro-abortion candidate ever elected, having voted THREE times that it should be illegal for a doctor to save a baby who survives a botched abortion
---he touts himself as a role model for the African-American community; yet, when he was in a position to help them as a state senator, he and his buddy Rezko exploited his constituency to gain political power and money
---his voting record as a US senator demonstrated that, no matter what he promised on the campaign trail, his ideas for America's future were decidedly against my own

I could list several more reasons why I am offended that he won the election and I worked long and hard so that he would not win. Yet he did - and I cannot change that.

For someone to say that I need to be the bigger person and 'just get over it' and 'get behind the president' and 'stop using his middle initial' -- WHY? What happened on election day will not change how much I disagree with him and his policies. Yes, I will be the bigger person in that, as much as it within my power as a US citizen, I will fight against his policies that I believe to be harmful to our great country. Yes, I will be the bigger person in that I will not demean myself or the office of the POTUS to use ANY OF THE INCENDIARY INSULTS LEVIED AT OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT! NO, I do not believe that the letter 'H' representing his middle name does this. IT IS HIS MIDDLE NAME!

But, if any liberal lurker comes on this CONSERVATIVE THREAD to tell me that I cannot use BHO'S MIDDLE INITIAL to refer to him, I'm obliged to remind that poster that I was not talking to that poster - I was talking amongst FRIENDS!

If I were to venture out beyond our 'no debate, please' thread, I will choose to use his last name so that all on the thread would know to whom I was referring.

If I were to lurk in the liberal thread, I would UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE claim offense that our current president was being treated disrespectfully just I would EXPECT THE SAME COURTESY HERE.

Sorry for the rant - guess I didn't eat enough....

Nah, Debbie..... nice post. Let's hope they read it and finally get what we're saying. Besides, this is OUR thread. We'll call him whatever we want in here. There ain't a dang thing they can do about it!!

Declansdad, I do agree with you. However, a bunch of people coming onto this thread all preachy doesn't help. Since I abstain from the Liberal thread, I don't know if you guys made your way over there to encourage those who are so inclined to stop calling us ignorant racists. Maybe a thread out on the main board asking both sides to please stop and try to behave toward one another as we (hopefully) behave toward our loved ones who hold different political opinions would be better. But even that is just a little hard to take seriously when you have, for example, a thread that was started yesterday enquiring about why some of us feel a certain way, and which was filled about 5 to 1, it seemed, with posts implying that we are lying about what we feel and why, and the real reason is just that most of us are uneducated racists who are afraid of/jealous of/or hate smart people. Heck, the FIRST five posts or so were defining our feelings in this way for us, before a one of us had had any chance to respond with our actual feelings. Those who did try to honestly answer the question were treated rudely and mocked. How would this make you feel? It is truly an historic moment that the US has a minority president, whether I care for him personally/politically or not. And it is a truly tragic statement on the mentality of some that the longstanding and vital tradition of dissent has now been relegated to nothing but racism in the process. I'm not accusing you of that, Declansdad, but I'm sure you can see where that would get really old, really fast. Not to mention that it is obscene and offensive. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr dreamed of a day when a man would be judged by the content of his character, rather than the color of his skin. I'm sure he never envisioned, and would never have agreed with, a world in which a man's character (or words, actions, motivations) could NOT be questioned, merely because his skin was brown. That's just as wrong as the reverse.

Goodness, glad I didn't know about THAT thread -- great post, Michelle - interesting that folks claim racism towards those whose race is unknown to them :confused3

Hey, leave me and my snark alone! When you guys tick me off, you better believe that I'm all snark and I make no apologies for it....

Yup, you guys have been taking a lot of crap over the past several years. I'm speaking as a person who has issued Conservatives and Bush supporters some of that crap (but I do see the light now. :thumbsup2)

I said something about this on one of the OS threads: It's only different now because it's their guy. They had no problem dishing it out the last eight years and they didn't think they were being bad about it. They felt justified in it. That was their point of view. But now that it's their guy being criticized and all, it's totally different. Well, let me clarify, it's different only in their minds. In actuality, what's been going around the last eight years is now starting to come back around to them and they don't like it much.
Apparently not here so I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.
And have you been telling the liberals for the last eight years to end it? Why, now, are you going to scream childish? True, things can get childish and true things can get hostile but as long as there are politicians you'll have divided sides with each side being passionate for their beliefs. This won't end and I do find it rude for you to not have an outspoken opinion about it for the past several years against the liberals but now that "your guy" (yes, I'm aware that you are from Canada) will be entering office, can't stand watching the criticism slug at him by the other side (aka: us Conserve's) and will paint us as childish. (yes, you said both sides but you chose to come and address this issue on our thread against us.)

Yet another great post. By the way, I, too, am not as full as I wish I were and am really craving some sweet potato pie right now.

Hi Everyone. Happy Thanksgiving! Let me be the first (maybe) to say…I am sooo full! Yummy. A traditional Thanksgiving meal is my all-time favorite.
I'm taking a short break from washing dishes, and catching up on the thread. Hmmmm…Lots of, ummmm, Thanksgiving Day visitors. I see the perpetually angry aunt, that annoying cousin who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, another cousin's new girlfriend who keeps insulting people and then whining "I didn't mean to to be rude," and then that nosy neighbor, who's always criticizing in others the very things she does herself. Ahhhh, holidays. Hopefully they'll know they're supposed to go home after the pie is served. Quick! Someone serve the pie! :rotfl:

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hey guys. I finally updated my siggie. I'm full of Christmas cheer. :woohoo:
(I figured waiting until the evening of Thanksgiving was long enough to hold out on the Christmas decor)

How many days til you go to WDW?

Personally, no you did not offend me. I'd probably be more receptive if I thought you guys had gone over to the "other" thread and given some outspoken people over there a lecture as well. I don't read it, so I won't know if you already did or if you ever will. It would have the ring of sincerity to me, though, is all I'm saying. Maybe we're just a little touchy about being asked to play nice when we are feeling very attacked and slandered with accusations that many of us consider offensive in the extreme. There aren't many worse (or less true) things you can say to me than to call me a racist. I know that a number of people here are making a concerted effort to stay OFF political threads except this one (which really is more of a chit chat thread than anything else) which is the best way we can keep from being drawn into ugliness. It doesn't always work, though. We do sometimes feel the need to defend ourselves, our beliefs, our points of view, or our values.

another great post - Michelle, how was your day today? Are you feeling better?

I spent the day with some great friends. How do I know they're great? Because they could tell that I wasn't finished being sick so they let me sit in their most comfortable recliner and watch hours of Food Network while they brought me whatever my heart desired -- water, kleenexes, banana splits [that was our dessert] - :cloud9: those are true friends....

Yeah, you really wouldn't want to read that thread. It was just a bummer. Well actually it is still around and makes its way back up to the front page every so often...it's gone through a lot of different subjects, all pretty much bashing us conservative types. It would have been nice to be able to have an actual discussion about it, but I guess it was just bait in the first place. Sometimes I think there are people who are in hog heaven with the convenience of just calling someone a racist instead of having to address actual issues and ideas.

I had a great day today being with family and pigging out. I'm still coughing and hacking like a ten pack a day smoker, especially first thing in the morning. It's worrying me...I'm afraid I'll wind up with pneumonia if I can't clear this gunk out soon. I'm going through the medicinal herb tea, and hopefully it will go away sometime soon. I don't feel all that bad, but I sound horrible.

You are right, those are true friends. Glad they took such good care of you.

That sounds like a great day...what nice friends. :goodvibes I love the Food Network. We got DISH TV just last year, so I'm a latecomer to lots of the shows. But we love "Good Eats"...it's my favorite!

I do find that quite odd. I think, they have raised the bar.... taken the attacks to a new level....one that is beyond absurd.

The things they've been saying lately get nastier and nastier by the minute. I thought their attacks would cease after 11/4..... guess not!!!:headache:

Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives is my favorite FN show. My mom and I never miss it. We love Guy Fieri!!:thumbsup2

Well... off to bed. G'night y'all!! I'll check back in after work tomorrow!!!

 :grouphug:  :grouphug:  :grouphug:  :grouphug:

It looks like I missed some drama today. Who knew the letter H would cause so much trouble? I love the letter H. My name starts with H. It may well be my very favorite letter in the alphabet. H H H H H H H !!!

:thumbsup2

We had a wonderful family Thanksgiving at my mom's house today. She and I split the cooking and I ate so much that I fell into a food coma for about 2 hours. Then I woke up, went back to Ma's (she lives next door) and had some more :lmao:

We just sat around, ate, and roared laughing at memories and funny stories. It was perfect. :goodvibes

Happy Thanksgiving, my conservative friends!!!

Wow, so the conversation is not usually this lively or petty? I am new here and figured this was what every day was like for a Dis-Con. I suppose reminding the libs that they are on conservative turf and will have to take us on our own terms would only be redundant, then. Hope they had their fun and are back to stomping out cigarettes, crying over artificial preservatives, and eating soy products, all for the sake of living lives of "purity," while attempting to push the boundries on the actual virtue. That sounds like a good time, does it not?!

One good holiday celebrating American capitalism deserves another, so I wish everyone a Happy Black Friday. Who knew that in this economy the free market can still get people out of bed at 4am? Let us pray we will be so fortunate a year from now!
