Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

Are you guys following whats going on in India right now?!

I just posted a long reply, and my moronic internet connection just went out. Phone company is in the area fiddling with the lines.

Anyway, in short, they had a story on where one of the terrorists asked a man where he was from, and he told them Italy, and they let him go. They're apparently after Americans and Brits. Prayers to everyone there.

It just makes me sick. The TV showed people lying dead in the streets, and yet there are some fools in this country who will still say "We can negotiate with terrorists! If we'd just be nicer to them, they'd leave us alone." Oh please. I'm sure some are thinking "No one says stuff like that!", but they do around here. I have colleagues, neighbors, and other associates who say pretty much exactly that every time the subject of terrorism comes up. I even had someone I was in a college organization with say that to me verbatim a couple years ago. :sad2:

The people out to kill us and our allies are out to destroy the West. They hate the freedoms, they hate the land of opportunity. And even if every last U.S. citizen was dirt poor or we as a country were isolationists... If we still lived free lives, I still believe they'd be out to destroy us. :sad2:

Evil like this has to be fought, not negotiated with.

Hi Guys
Had to work today and tomorrow also,
When you work at WDW we are available 24/7.
We are having Thanksgiving dinner tonight as everyone is off this evening
As far as Deborah goes, thats how my name is spelled.
I must miss all the fun on the CB board,
I have to get up at 3am 3 days a week to be at work by 5am, so Im in bed by 8pm most nights.
Its time for dinner, so see you all later.
Oh, and my DH had to go to Walmart, to get a cherry Coke, so he could add the TATOO. (dont remember who posted that picture, but he was drooling)

Do you guys think my siggie is offensive? I've had a few posters tell me that it is.

The whole story: I was inspired to adopt my new siggie after seeing an Australian politcal cartoon.

t_=153712491

I was touched by how one of our allies showed deep appreciation for our military heroes. I figured if they could do that, then I could at least adopt a new sig based on the cartoon. That seemed to be an appropriate way to honor veterans as Veterans Day approached earlier this month. I haven't been moved to change it even though the holiday has passed.

I am proud of our heroes currently serving in the military, and of the history of bravery and commitment to freedom that women and men in the armed forces have shown throughout this nation's history.

Apparently some folks find my sig offensive because it overstates US involvement in history. Now dumb ol' me... I thought it to be a beautiful tribute from one of our allies. My intentions are pure. I only wish to say something honorable about our veterans.

There's nothing stopping those same people from creating their own sigs stating the same thing about their military, but then they wouldn't have anything to whine about when they are losing an argument with you.

I got it...wow. :sad1: :scared1:

DH is passing kidney stones right now so my TV isn't on and I'm only on the laptop intermittently.

:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm sorry I realize this probably isn't really funny at all but the way you say it so matter of fact it just struck me as funny.

Anyhow, I've been keeping up here lately but haven't had time to post much. Hopefully I'll have more time soon. I do enjoy reading all the posts though.

I saw this somewhere else and it made me laugh...

"I suspect most liberals, especially the men, also suffer severe inadequacy or envy, when considering Sarah Palin because she can do all those rugged outdoorsy things that sends liberal men shrieking to the nearest Starbucks."

I guess I did say it matter of factly but I don't panic easily. ;) And there's nothing I can do for him. I wish there was, though.

Offensive? OFFENSIVE??? IMHO, it's offensive to call that offensive!! JMHO...

(did I offend anyone? Sorry..)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ....to both of you!

Dolce, how are you feeling? I am still sick! I can NOT seem to kick this bug. Ten days now! Uuuuuugh. I went back to bed today after I got my kids on the bus. For the rest of you guys who are sick too, hugs and get-well wishes. Just want you to know I'm not leaving you out, I'm only asking Dolce because we have been sick about the same length of time.

I just edited my signature to reflect my status in the Debbie pecking order... LOL

I know it's early but
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

I don't normally request prayers but I am asking for one now. DFIL was having surgery Monday to clear a corrodid artery. He ended up having a stroke either during or shortly after the operation. He's having trouble speaking and using his right arm. I can't believe the hospital even let him go because he couldn't even sign his name to leave. He's back in the hospital right now and will be there for a couple of days. If you all would please include him in your prayers I'd really appreciate it. (Thanks in advance) :goodvibes

Any of you in the D.C. area? I have recently been accepted to serve on Sen. Samuel Brownback's staff as part of an externship program and will spend 12 weeks on Capitol Hill! Could be fun to meet fellow Dis-Cons!

Freedom of speech includes the freedom to offend.
However, by not including "and her allies" I believe you reinforce some of the misconceptions held by many of your compatriots.

I think thats absoloutely correct .... I have to say I was offended by the original signature, purely out of the fact it gave the impression that the US alone "liberated" said countries. (the film U-575 springs to mind - the UK and a UK sub actually found and decoded the Enigma machine and yet Hollywood changed history to make it a US find .... and many Americans believe that to be true ... and so the misconceptions continue).

speaking as a Brit I do believe that in most of those cases we fought and lost men alongside other allies including the US.

Zippa I think its great you support your troops and verterans - I most sincerely do even when I think there are wars we are fighting that we shouldnt be. They are all heroes fighting in our countries name ...... but it isnt the US alone and that was my bug about it.

Thankyou for changing your siggy to reflect the facts. We fight freedom together - not alone.

I'm feeling much better. I felt like being in a pretty good mood for the first time today in days.
... but now it seems that it's catching up with me. So, I think that I have a little bit more to go before I'm well.

I'm at my mom's tonight. She had to have her tonsils out today. Not fun.

Ugh, Dolce, that's so miserable for an adult. :( I hope she heals quickly. Hope you feel 100% soon, too.

Zip...personally I love your siggie. Please don't change it. I think it takes alot of people by surprise to know exactly how many collective butts the US Military has saved and protected over the years. If it weren't for them, we'd all be blonde haired, blue-eyed german speaking.

:rolleyes1

thats just the type of resonse that MAKES people take offence .....

the US DOES NOT SAVE THE WORLD!!! you contribute as we all do working TOGETHER!

fighting wars isnt about ego, glory and being NUMBER ONE .... BOOOYAHHH, and that isnt honouring veterans properly either - al of whom fight with and alongside their brothers from countries around the world.

I like your sig and you shouldn't change it. Just remember it is hard to change history if you remember it. That might be why some people don't like it.

I must have misread all the history books mentioning all the other countries that fought in those wars too ....

Argh....there is a moose in the yard, and I can't get my 10-year-old son to stop opening the door to have a look. Those critters can be ornery! He had just got all his snow stuff on to play in the yard, and I'm making him come in. He doesn't get it yet, how they can be just as, if not more, dangerous than bears.

Prayer already said, and will continue to say one for him and y'all each night.

That's great! Congratulations! :yay: I'm not terribly far from D.C., but I haven't been to the area since last December to see the Christmas tree at the Capitol in person and the White House tree from a distance.

Glad you're doing better, Dolce. Hope your mom feels better soon. I've had the viral strain of tonsilitis for weeks. I had the bacterial kind that could be treated with medicine a few times as a child, but this kind can't be treated with antibiotics. It's been awful. I've only in the last few days been getting completely over it. :sad2:

I'm glad you're feeling better...take it easy and try to get some rest.
Hope your mom recovers quickly. Makes me think of the Brady Bunch where Cindy and Mrs. Brady got their tonsils out at the same time....anybody remember that one?

I just said a prayer for your DFIL, and will continue to pray for him.
