I'm glad you're feeling better...take it easy and try to get some rest.
Hope your mom recovers quickly. Makes me think of the Brady Bunch where Cindy and Mrs. Brady got their tonsils out at the same time....anybody remember that one?

That brokendown barnacle barge! :rotfl2: :rotfl: I love the brady bunch.:lmao:
(I hope someone else knows what I'm talking about.)

Thanks for the prayer. Thank you too SD16.

I think thats absoloutely correct .... I have to say I was offended by the original signature, purely out of the fact it gave the impression that the US alone "liberated" said countries. (the film U-575 springs to mind - the UK and a UK sub actually found and decoded the Enigma machine and yet Hollywood changed history to make it a US find .... and many Americans believe that to be true ... and so the misconceptions continue).

speaking as a Brit I do believe that in most of those cases we fought and lost men alongside other allies including the US.

Zippa I think its great you support your troops and verterans - I most sincerely do even when I think there are wars we are fighting that we shouldnt be. They are all heroes fighting in our countries name ...... but it isnt the US alone and that was my bug about it.

Thankyou for changing your siggy to reflect the facts. We fight freedom together - not alone.

I humbly invite you to consider making it part of your sig as well.

No problem.

I remember the tonsilectomy episode. Brokendown barnacle barge, not so much. :rotfl:

My nose is very much distracting me right now... a pumpkin pie is in the oven. Mmm-mmm! :cloud9: I hated pumpkin pie when I was little, but around when I started college, I magically loved it. :confused3 I'm afraid I might eat a slice tonight after it's finished baking! And that wouldn't be good because that pie needs to travel out of town tomorrow. That'd look pretty bad if I showed up at the door with a partially eaten pie. :lmao:

:rolleyes1

thats just the type of resonse that MAKES people take offence .....

the US DOES NOT SAVE THE WORLD!!! you contribute as we all do working TOGETHER!

fighting wars isnt about ego, glory and being NUMBER ONE .... BOOOYAHHH, and that isnt honouring veterans properly either - al of whom fight with and alongside their brothers from countries around the world.

I, for one, am quite grateful for our common heritage and fancy myself to be somewhat of an Anglophile. In the most Burkean sense, much of what we Americans should be conserving we have inherited from our British ancestry.

That being said, instead of allowing yourself to be offended (I believe one does have control over whether or not one is offended), I suggest correction via similar patriotism. Celebrating liberty should be shared by all who support it, and, perhaps I speak for myself, but I think Americans would love to recognize our allies more, if only they would recognize themselves more.

Let me be the first patriotic American Dis-Con to shout, "bully, Britannia!"

LOL! and Bully Brits righ back :)

that is a really interesting point and one I agree with. We are in a 'population' sense a far less patriotic country compared to the US. Having flags hanging in our front yards is not what we do - infact if you do you are not seen as patriotic - more likey labelled as a football fan!

We should be more patriotic. And we find the US patriotism quite 'scary' in some ways. We do consider ourselves far more wordly than most americans, in terms that we know there is no one country that is No.1, and we would never dare to suggest we were, whereas many Americans consider the US the be all and end all. All countries have their own merits and failings, the US and UK certainly included - theres more to the world than the borders of our countries.

That's what Carol calls Mike's bosses' boat. She writes it on the chalk board since she can't talk. I can't help it, I'm a savant with brady bunch episodes. :rotfl:

Post that about the US saving the world on the UK Dis board and see what type of response there is.

they will quite accurately point out that no single country was responsible for any of it .... Allies, a joint effort.

I guess I did say it matter of factly but I don't panic easily. ;) And there's nothing I can do for him. I wish there was, though.

OH NO! I hope he's not in too much pain. Starting my prayer list!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ....to both of you!

Dolce, how are you feeling? I am still sick! I can NOT seem to kick this bug. Ten days now! Uuuuuugh. I went back to bed today after I got my kids on the bus. For the rest of you guys who are sick too, hugs and get-well wishes. Just want you to know I'm not leaving you out, I'm only asking Dolce because we have been sick about the same length of time.

Adding Michelle and Dolce who have been on the list. DH hasn't recovered either, but he was at hunting camp for most of his so I was spared the ickiness!

I just edited my signature to reflect my status in the Debbie pecking order... LOL
LMAO!! I think I got Debbie#1 by name default, even though I don't think I deserve it!

Since the season is upon us, there's truth in kidding:

I know it's early but
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

I don't normally request prayers but I am asking for one now. DFIL was having surgery Monday to clear a corrodid artery. He ended up having a stroke either during or shortly after the operation. He's having trouble speaking and using his right arm. I can't believe the hospital even let him go because he couldn't even sign his name to leave. He's back in the hospital right now and will be there for a couple of days. If you all would please include him in your prayers I'd really appreciate it. (Thanks in advance) :goodvibes

More prayers to your FIL, Ward. I hope he's at a local for you hospital?
I'm feeling much better. I felt like being in a pretty good mood for the first time today in days.
... but now it seems that it's catching up with me. So, I think that I have a little bit more to go before I'm well.

I'm at my mom's tonight. She had to have her tonsils out today. Not fun.

Prayers said.
Dolce and her mom also on the list!

Argh....there is a moose in the yard, and I can't get my 10-year-old son to stop opening the door to have a look. Those critters can be ornery! He had just got all his snow stuff on to play in the yard, and I'm making him come in. He doesn't get it yet, how they can be just as, if not more, dangerous than bears.

I'd LOVE to see that! We supposedly have a moose that comes through our property in the UP of Michigan, but I've never seen it.

Ward.. Love the Level icon! I ran into that, too, but can't make it small enough, while still readable, to make it into my sig! Its good!

I finished making all my side dishes. THey're happily stacked in the fridge in their throw away containers!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

I used to watch the Brady Bunch reruns a lot when I was growing up. I think they were on Nick at Nite. Now I never see the show on TV, for some reason. I enjoyed it, but I guess since I grew up with Full House and loved that, TBB couldn't compare to it for me. Mister Ed and Get Smart were more my speed than TBB. I love Mister Ed. Yay Alan Young! :goodvibes

And now back to the food. Talk to y'all for a bit later tonight, and then I will wave goodbye until Sunday. If I don't talk to some of you again later tonight, Happy Thanksgiving! And please be safe if you're traveling. :grouphug:

I believe a lot of this is due to location and size. We don't have that many countries just a quick flight away the way the UK does. I'm not saying it is right, but what one of the reasons might be. When I was visiting Europe, I loved watching BBC and getting a different take on World news.

I saw this somewhere else and it made me laugh...

"I suspect most liberals, especially the men, also suffer severe inadequacy or envy, when considering Sarah Palin because she can do all those rugged outdoorsy things that sends liberal men shrieking to the nearest Starbucks."
:rotfl2:

:lmao: I love it! :thumbsup2

I see you guys are still being picked on. You'd think they'd be happy with their guy being elected. I guess, things aren't looking the way they expected.;)

I think it funny, they think of "Barry" as a child's name but, "Ba-ROCK-my-world" a grown-up name?:confused3 :rotfl:

Happy Thanksgiving, ya'll. Blessings for you and yours. Here's to health and happiness over the holiday!!!:goodvibes

See ya'll, later. I must go back to the kitchen.

:lmao: I'm the same way. I love the Bradys.

You want to know the funniest thing? We are actually watching the Brady Bunch right now as I am reading this thread. We have some of the seasons on DVD. My girls wanted to watch the Christmas episode where Carol loses her voice, so they popped it in. Now we're watching the episode with the pay phone.

Coincidentally, I also just finished Maureen McCormick's new book.

I must have misread all the history books mentioning all the other countries that fought in those wars too ....

I was implying that far left liberals like to rewrite history as seen in some of our (US) history books.

I know other countries help fight for freedom and so forth and I guess I was just looking at it at US stand point. I'm not trying to offend anyone and I'm sorry if I did.

And we find the US patriotism quite 'scary' in some ways.

Ah, and that's just it. Our "scary" patriotism arises out of American Exceptionalism. What sometimes makes it scary is the confusion of Americans concerning its true nature. Due to both ignorance and the violent attempt of self-loathing Americans to spread their anti-American sentiments (through our schools, politics, and culture), the self-consciousness of what made America exceptional has been numbed to the point of, "We're great because WE are American." Some poor cowboys are just trying to hold on to something; they're just not sure what.

Here is my attempt to explain it.

In actuality, it is not us at all. Our unwritten constitution as a people (a derivative of, among other things, that glorious Magna Charta), recognizing the dignity of every individual human person, has "fitted us for greatness." We were by no means the first people to recognize this, but, by virtue of not bearing the baggage of Old World history as a nation, we had the opportunity of organizing our written Constitution of government in a fresh, if not experimental, manner to reflect universal, natural-law principles.

While there was an awareness of our Founders about what they were doing, they considered it a natural evolution of their European traditions. It was other Europeans, as exemplified by Toqueville (G.K. Chesterton, my favorite Brit, is good on this, too), that recognized the exceptionalism unique to America, especially American civil and religious institutions.

Are we faultless? H*LL NO! But, in our short history we have been symbolized as an unwavering bulwark of human liberty. I prefer the image of the rattlesnake that bites relentlessly when threatened, which is exactly what makes us sometimes scary. Especially lately, when Americans have felt threatened not only by foreign enemies, but also by some within our own political system.

It should not be "America alone," nor do I think it is. But, the hope from American Exceptionalism is that it will be, should it (God forbid) come down to it. This is not pride, rather it is the determination of Liberty or Death!

I'd LOVE to see that! We supposedly have a moose that comes through our property in the UP of Michigan, but I've never seen it.

I took some pictures...I'll put 'em on here in a bit (off to Pie and Praise at church right now...)

Mister Ed and Get Smart were more my speed than TBB. I love Mister Ed. Yay Alan Young! :goodvibes

I love Mr. Ed. I got a couple of the series on DVD.

:lmao: I'm the same way. I love the Bradys.

We got the entire series on DVD. My daughter has worn out 2 disks already...she watches them over and over. I think I've seen every episode at least 20 times (it used to be on after school as reruns, so I saw it every day for years...)
