Do you guys think my siggie is offensive? I've had a few posters tell me that it is.

The whole story: I was inspired to adopt my new siggie after seeing an Australian politcal cartoon.

t_=153712491

I was touched by how one of our allies showed deep appreciation for our military heroes. I figured if they could do that, then I could at least adopt a new sig based on the cartoon. That seemed to be an appropriate way to honor veterans as Veterans Day approached earlier this month. I haven't been moved to change it even though the holiday has passed.

I am proud of our heroes currently serving in the military, and of the history of bravery and commitment to freedom that women and men in the armed forces have shown throughout this nation's history.

Apparently some folks find my sig offensive because it overstates US involvement in history. Now dumb ol' me... I thought it to be a beautiful tribute from one of our allies. My intentions are pure. I only wish to say something honorable about our veterans.

Offensive? OFFENSIVE??? IMHO, it's offensive to call that offensive!! JMHO...

(did I offend anyone? Sorry..)

Well, gosh... I was going to change my siggie sometime soon, but now I guess I have to keep it. ;)

I like your sig and you shouldn't change it. Just remember it is hard to change history if you remember it. That might be why some people don't like it.

I did manage to stir up a bit of a hornet's nest. *blush*

Wait. Let me get this straight. For eight years it was a-ok for the left to call Bush names. They can call him ‘W’, Dubya, Shrub, whatever. They can say he’s not “their” President (even Obama alluded that Bush isn’t his President in a debate with McCain) and we even have a OS that has publically made it known on this message board that he refuses to live in the US as long as Bush is President. So all that is ok? But if you refer to Obama has ‘H’ --- which is no different than the left calling Bush ‘W’ than it’s not ok? :confused3

I told you that their logic is screwed-up.

And what’s this crap about referring to Obama as ‘H’ or by his middle name being fear mongering (or whatever) and saying he’s Muslim? Are they saying that only Muslims can have the name Hussein? Since Obama’s legal middle name is Hussein - as that is what his mother named him – are they saying that he’s a Muslim?

They don’t really think things through before they go off on their attacks – do they?

I’m not offended. I understood the point. But really, Zip. We live in a society where someone is going to be offended somewhere over anything you say. You could walk into the office and say “It’s such a lovely day outside. The sky is blue, the breeze is just perfect and traffic was great” and someone could disagree because for that person it’s too cold and it’s not a breeze, it’s a wind gust and their hair was messed up on the way in and there was a traffic accident along their route that morning that put them in the office ten minutes later than normal and they don’t want you to walk in all cheerful claiming it to be a beautiful day when your definition of ‘beautiful day’ doesn’t meet their definition of ‘beautiful day’.

We live in a society were 100% of the time you’re supposed to be “politically correct”. Well I’ll tell you: political correctness isn’t always politically correct and I’m usually more offended by a person trying to be “politically correct” than I am by the person telling it as it is.

OK. There's my rant for the morning.

*GIGGLE*

I can't look because youtube is blocked at work, but I wonder if Brad Stine's rant about political correctness is on there...you'd enjoy that.

nope, not offensive at all.

honestly, I think referring to Obama as "H" is offensive. It is his name yes, but I would feel the same if his middle name was Aloph or Hilter (esp. hilter).
I hated reading where people called GWB Dubya or shrub. I thought it was disrepectful. of course, they didn't respect him so what did they care? Not a bit...oh well. Bottom line is that to me, it said more about them than it did GWB and I do not think highly of the people here on the DIS who called him that. JMHO.

I'm judging by saying this because I have very little faith in what Obama can do for our country. I want to support him the best I can and at least give him a chance. However, I do feel very strongly (Bible thumper that I am) that he is leading us down a slippery slope that will fall in line with the Biblical predictions. He isn't the first though, this has been happening for a long time through many of our leaders. I just think, like birth pains, it is getting quicker and stronger as time goes by. Time will tell, for me and Obama. I do want to try to stay positive which is very hard to do right now.

I certainly do not appreciate people thinking if you aren't for him that you are a racist but I cannot stop them from it, I guess.

To add to this, let me remind you that the Bush name calling and hatred started at least on election night in 2000 and hasn't stopped since - not after he had a chance to perform as some would like to believe. I was at Bush's first inaugural amongst the scores of protesters chanting "not my president" and throwing "W" around as if it was some kind of slur. It would be nice if people would stop trying to re-write the history that I witnessed! There were plenty of Bush haters before he was even officially President.

Hi guys. Breezy, got any eats??:goodvibes

I had to step away after the election, political crisis of sorts.
Just trying to accept our new president.
But I have a feeling it will not be easy.;)

Question. Does anyone know what YCAWS stands for?:confused3

I have seen it around some of the political threads and don't have a clue. Thanks!:goodvibes

Hey everyone. Trying half heartedly to keep up around here. Y'all are too fast for me these days.:worship:

Zip - please to be keeping the signature. Remembering these things in important.

Well we are leaving this afternoon for the Holidays so I wanted to be sure to pop in and say

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Be safe and enjoy. May you find many, many things to be thankful for in these trying times.

I live in a highly Dem area and the hatred started here before he was even elected during his first campaign and hasn't stopped since.

I am so tired of people saying how offended the are by this or that. GET OVER IT ALREADY!!! Like you said, everything will offend someone sometime, but this picking apart every little thing just drives me crazy. What makes it even worse is when people will try and take away another's right to speak because they are offended by it and I think the fairness doctrine is a good example of this. We have a some in our society that don't want to have others get the right to speak freely, so instead of refuting the ideas that they don't agree with, they would rather just take away what they find offensive. I find this really scary!!

:scared1:

Yeah, either they have short memories or are intentionally being dishonest.

Happy Thanksgiving, ya'll!

My gosh, you guys are chatty. Sheesh!

On topic: I refuse to be politically correct. What's the point? You'll always offend someone. As the saying goes, "You can't please all the people all of the time". :confused3

As for calling obama 'h', I find it to be non-offensive. But I can call him bo...after all, his policies stink.

I've never called Obama by his middle name or initial, but all the whining almost makes me want to start.:lmao: :rotfl2:

Do I buy the throw away pans for the casseroles so I don't have to wash them at my sil's or do I find some decent looking giant casserole dishes in the depths of the cupboards? I need to double all of my side dishes. Her count just went up to 22.

I'm not making anything real difficult:
Mushrooms and wild rice (mostly mushrooms)
scalloped corn
the green bean thing
candied sweet potatoes

Even being the somewhat frugal person I am, I think I would buy the disposable just so I wouldn't have to deal with the dishes.

honestly, I think referring to Obama as "H" is offensive. It is his name yes, but I would feel the same if his middle name was Aloph or Hilter (esp. hilter).
I think this notion is very puzzling. Hussein is his middle name. If he were offended by it, he's had the option to change it all of these years. He wouldn't be the first political figure to alter his name for the sake of electability... ask Gary Hart. Since he hasn't, you can infer that he's "OK" with it. "Hussein" also isn't in the same league as other infamous "one name" tyrants. You say "Hussein" and I'll say "Which one?" It doesn't have the same immediate identification as does names like "Hitler", "Stalin", "Mussolini", "Mao", etc. There's also nothing wrong with "W"... it's not until you change it to "Dubya" it becomes derogatory.

I guess I'm under Canadian influence? *can't stop laughing* Except for hockey, I want to know what Canadian influence is? Am I suddenly going to want ketchup potato chips? Pretend there isn't a drug problem in large cities while I walk over the OD'd people on sidewalks? (in Toronto) Nothing against Canada, but I'm an American. A country's close proximity isn't going to make me say.. OHHH I want what they're having! The last time I went to Canada I was there to take an out of town friend there so she could say she'd been to another country.
LOL - us too. The only reason we go to Canada is to take a visiting friend over to Canada just for kicks and giggles.

I had to go back and reread the original quote.

One word

WOLVERINES!

I think maybe he watched Red Dawn one too many times!
I LOVE that movie. My sister and I would watch it over and over and over....

Just wanted to say hi, have not been on for a few weeks I think the election took the starch out of me. LOL!
So glad you checked in. We were getting worried about you.

I know, weird. I don't think Canada is strong enough to influence anyone on anything. :lmao:

Sorry to my Canadian neighbors. I actually like Canada. I enjoyed many fun weekends there from ages 19-21. :drinking1
Me too. :cool2:

Hi y'all! :wave2: Boy, I've missed this thread. I took a (much needed) break from politics for awhile but I missed hanging out here. I just wanted to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving!

Now, to get myself back to the basics (sorry, borrowing from the last thread), I have a new motto (which some of you might have heard before, so I apologize in advance):

I'll keep my God, my freedom, my guns, and my money.

You can keep THE CHANGE! :thumbsup2
LOL!!! Welcome back!!!!

Where you guys at? I'm getting killed on the "welfare check" thread.

I don't know how to make it any more clear. If you owe no taxes but get a "refund" (refund of what?) check, it's welfare, a handout or income redistribution. Take your pick.
It's all of the above. I can't go out there either - I'm a big wimp.

I jist tok sum zicam n itz reaaaaaallllllllllllll stronggggggggggggg n i'm not tipin verr goooooddddddddddd

I'd buy the throw away casserole dishes if they are cheap enough. Why make more work for you?

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving!! My sister isn't doing well, so I'm going to get down there to help her out a bit. I'll see you all on Sunday. Be safe. :)
