So JB - how long did it take for you to make all of those squares? I can't wait to start making quilts like that.

It took me longer to cut out the fabric than it did to piece the blocks. Actually, this one went together rather fast. I've spent maybe 30 hours on it so far? I chain piece whenever possible so that makes the process go alot faster.

I'm probably going to put this one up for sale after I finish it.

No, she's going to send it to "this" Michelle (that's me). I'm Michelle70. :D

Wow, I didn't know you were a Michelle too. Did you know (have I mentioned) that my oldest daughter is Megan? Different spelling, but still...

well, this is what i've been workin on all day... what do you guys think?

i dig it. :thumbsup2

Hey everyone! I'm so happy. We're actually getting some cool weather here.
Went to Disneyland last night. We wanted to check out the Christmas parade and fireworks. It took us forever to get there because there was so much traffic. That, and I forgot about all of the locals that come out Friday nights. Anyhow, we only caught the tail end of the parade, but the kids did get to see Santa go by. :goodvibes The fireworks were beautiful! We got an excellent spot. My dh actually held the spot for awhile and suggested that I take the younger two on It's a Small World. I love how the re-do it for Christmas time. Anywho, just thought I would share about our evening. :goodvibes

Thanks you guys. :) Okay one more just because I can't help it. My son AND my grandson, at my mother's house on Thanksgiving.

They are sooo cute! Makes me want to have just one more baby. Dh would go crazy, though.
Hey ya'll! Just wanted to do a drive by and say hi!!! **waving** I'm trying to finish packing....made a list and checking it multiple times. Gee, I didn't realize I'd miss my kids so much. I'm having to make schedules for them to come by and take care of the menagerie. It was sooooo much easier when they were still at home.

Anyways, be safe and hope all is well for all!!!:)

Have fun and safe travels! Hope you enjoy Cali. :)

I just saw on FOX News that Sarah Palin's home church has suffered over a million dollars in damage from a suspicious fire.:sad2:
That really bites!

did you happen to notice, aside from the xmas decor, if they actually added the disney characters to small world? anything really noticably different? like, how were the new boats, etc.?

i was there last year during this same week. i love when it snows on main street, but was a little sad to see somebody's footprints on the snowman costumes in the anaheim parade...i saw the wdw xmas parade and the anaheim xmas parade about three weeks apart, and the anaheim parade seemed to need a little bit of an update.:scared:

Hmm, I didn't notice any Disney characters, but they could have been there. It did seem to be more vibrant. You could tell they had some new decorations. Remember when you are just about to finish the ride and you see all of the signs that say, "Merry Christmas" in different languages? I didn't see them there. The new boats were nice! I don't know how to decribe them, but they definitely fit in with the ride better. The ones I saw were bright red and/or blue. I think I will kind of miss the old, "vintage" boats, though, lol.
I was watching my now two-year-old during most of the ride. She was just amazed and in awe of it all.

The quilt is beautiful! Very vivid colors. I like it!

Church burning... terrible!

Seeing grandkids and little kids. I think I need some of my own now. Maybe I just need to buy my dog more clothes. I might get another year out of needing a "baby" if I buy him more clothes, eh?

Michigan people>> I went up to birch run today to get some Christmas shopping done. The Coach store had almost the entire left side of the store at 50 percent off their already marked down prices. It was a mad house in there. People were pleasant, but man was it packed. I think they found their price point because the right hand side of the store was being ignored while people were picking up two and three handbags from the other side and getting in line.

I found the rest of DD's Christmas/birthday present and I found my Christmas present with a matching birthday present. DH won't let me use them and I was good and had them wrapped at the store.
Pottery barn also had some good sales.

As far as the outlet mall being packed. It was at 11 when we arrived, but it was getting empty as we left about 3ish. Most of the vehicles were not local, but from the Detroit area and Indiana/Ohio. People are buying, but they're buying the super sales, not the sales. These were my observations and not to be confused with the actual retail history of the area! (I can say that mall was dead last week on one of the weeknights when we went by.)

Hey, how was your weather yesterday? Did ya get blown away? It blew insanely here. I didn't lose power, but my neighbors a half mile away to the north or so lost power. I had the gen filled up with gas and ready to go just in case. I did have to end up searching hither and yon to find all my garbage cans when I let the dog out for the last time in the wee hours this morning. Had to dig one out of the woods in front of the house. Took me a good while to find all the lids, too. Didn't lose any trees or anything though, so I won't complain about playing hide and seek with my garbage cans and lids.
Didn't get blown away but did have wind. It's supposed to snow, too, and I haven't seen hide nor hair of a single flurry.

JB, that's a beautiful quilt!

i had heard they were going to plant some disney characters in there, which i thought was odd. was hoping to get down there this month, but people at work are distracting me with...well...with work...so i may not have a chance.

Very interesting.

I LOVE Coach, but I only need one purse. :) I just bought a Dresser from that Pottery Barn a few weeks ago.

We are watching Prince Caspian now.

All the talk about thyroids reminded me that I have to make an appt to check on my levels. I've been a bad, bad girl and haven't taked my thyroid meds in a long time.

You'll have to tell me how you liked it. Maybe I'll get dh to pick it up for us.

wonderlanne- hope you get a chance to check out the Christmas Small World.

Michelle, such cute little ones. I know you must be over the moon proud of them. And the cat too. ;)

Then you must try Starbuck's Salted Caramel Signature Hot Chocolate. It tastes like a chocolate-caramel pretzel in a cup!

saltedCaramel.jpg

I know there are some here who are not fond of Starbuck's (I am one of them). If you have not tried Boca Java, I highly recommend them. Besides being some of the freshest coffee (roasted the day you order), they also donate lots of coffee to the troops. And, they advertise on Rush, so if you are a mind-numbed robot then you have no choice!

:rotfl2:

Starbucks coffee isn't so bad in terms of what I taste in their frappucinnos (I don't drink coffee on its own). I only buy frappucinnos from Barnes & Noble, and all they sell is Starbucks products. Now Books A Million and their Joe Muggs coffee drinks... now that's bad. Yuck. :scared:

I'm glad you had a good time, studentmom! wonder's right, they were supposed to have added Disney characters into the scenes, such as Stitch added into the Polynesian area. I love Disney characters, but they don't belong in IASW. Thankfully they had just done the complete rehab in WDW in 2005, so the idea wasn't inflicted on us. :rotfl:

I did and it's disgusting. Tasted like salted chocolate water.

Really? I thought it was rich and delicious and was glad to have that and the caramel apple cider to fall back on whenever I find myself at Starbucks. Well, I am glad you did not try it at my suggestion; I would have owed you $5!

It's VERY good - a nail biter for me. Not too much like the book though, but I'm fine with that.

This talk of books reminds me... Can anyone recommend some good fiction books to me? I'm almost done with the books I bought over the summer, so I need some reading material.

Caveats: I don't like books with foul language or, ahem, racy content. :rotfl:

Christian fiction is something I recently discovered and enjoy. But I like regular fiction too, just as long as it's not questionable as defined above. ;)

I also have no desire to read anything depressing and/or about illnesses. :headache:

Well, SD, I have the itchin' to reread the Narnia series, but that's because I just watched Prince Caspian. ;)

for anybody who is an animal lover, i HIGHLY recommend cleveland amory's books the cat who came for christmas, the cat and the curmudgeon, and the best cat ever. cleveland was a magnificent man who created the black beauty ranch in murchison, texas (where i visited last spring...beautiful and very touching) and the fund for animals. if you read these books, you'll need a box of tissue near by. do not miss these beautiful stories!

everything i've read lately and enjoyed has a little language and a little raciness, but they were interesting. specifically, the gregory macguire books, in which he used the fundamentals of some of grimm's fairy tales to write socio-political (and somewhat historical) fiction: wicked (the musical has obliterated everything interesting about this book), son of a witch (sequel to wicked), confessions of an ugly stepsister, mirror mirror. it fascinating how he wove the original stories and characters into something much more grown up and significant. he also wrote lost, which was okay.

i also read the his dark materials trilogy by pullman. this can be sensitive ground for the spiritual, but if you're reading it purely as fiction, the stories are well done and likely wouldn't bother you as both sides of the belief coin are represented.

addition: i didn't mean to write a scathing review about the musical wicked. it's a really good musical. it just bears very little resemblance to the book.
