Welcome back, Ward!

Hi guys! We had our Christmas party tonight. It was a lot of fun. My husband came to the party via Yahoo chat and webcam. :) Everyone got a chance to chat with him, and he played our Christmas present game with us too---everyone brings a present, we draw numbers to establish the order and then go in order and people can unwrap a present or swipe someone else's (and then they have to get another one). We lost the voice connection half way through the game so that slowed us down because we had to type to tell him what everyone had and find out who he wanted to steal from...because everyone kept stealing from him. But it was fun, and really cool that he could "make it" to the party. :)

My cousin made it to the party, and I didn't even know he was in off the boat. :) You know, he's the cousin that is a fisherman, and I posted pictures of his boat iced over a couple of winters ago. Remember those? And just because I'm in a picture posting mood these days, here's my cousin holding my grandson. He held him and played with him for a long time. It's such a bummer that he doesn't have any kids---he loves them so much.

Got any snow yet? I have about an inch sticking.
That's so awesome! :lovestruc
And hey, if your cousin is unattached I have a DSIL that's unmarried and loves kids...:rolleyes1
I don't know how much snow we got but some did stick. I think it's supposed to snow again today, too. DH said not to go anywhere as the roads are icy and people here can't drive in ice and snow.
I lived in Alaska for 6 months (Sept-Feb) and I can drive in it just fine. But other people are spinning out and having accidents.

Anyone else in WA snowed in? We got some good snow up here now. Sigh. It's freaking cold. I can't believe how cold it is. Ugh. I hate it. It's 20 degrees, but 10 degrees with the wind chill. Yuck.:headache:

It's 29 here, not sure what the wind chill is.

Hi everyone! :wave2: We got back yesterday from WDW. I'm not even going to try to catch up on this thread. :faint:

I just have to say I had a WONDERFUL time, but I'll never stay at Pop again. I'm not a hotel snob but I'll just say we had several less than magical experiences there. I think we'll upgrade to Carribean Beach next time.

Beautiful grandson Michelle and great quilt JB.

I'm off to Walmart to restock the cupboards now. I'll be bacon later today.

I wondered when you would get back. Our stay Pop was nothing out of the norm and wonder if the Pop Warner cheerleaders was part of your difficulties. They were starting to show up as we were leaving. Sorry we didn't hook up but it was fun trying to spot you...like "Where's Waldo".

Welcome home, Ward family!

Welcome back! My two trips to pop were only my son and I, so we had lots of space still. I am sure that helped. I'm glad you had a wonderful trip, though!

We'll be playing "your team" in a few hours at our rink. On the 23rd we'll be playing them again at your end of the world.

so glad you had fun...can't wait to hear the details.

i stayed at pop twice. the first time i was disillusioned, but the price was right. the second time, even the large disney characters they had behind the lobby desk appeared forlorn.:sad2:

Ooh - I want to read the trip report. I'm particularily interested about your Pop stay.

he who throws size 10 shoes at mr. g. w. bush needs to go to jail.
Hmm - how did I miss this? Did it actually happen?

Got the Christmas cards done. I feel bad because they are only photo cards this year. Normally I write a personal note on each card, but I just don't have the energy to do it this year. Next year I'll be back on track.

Wow! Miss a day and you miss a LOT over here-I can't even begin to catch up!

Busy weekend down here-we spent Friday night getting food boxes and gifts ready to deliver this week. We get SO much in donations that we have to put things together in shifts or we'd be slammed as Christmas got closer. DH and I are leaving on Friday to visit the various family around Florida. We get to see quite a bit of the state as we have people ALL over. We won't get back to our house until after Christmas.

We're spending Christmas eve and Christmas day with my sister and her family. She married a Catholic and converted, which was the cause of some tension in the family early on, but I have to say things have gotten a lot better. My parents were REALLY against it at first, even though they really liked her DH, but now we even all go to their Church for Midnight Mass together now that her kids are old enough to go. It's really a beautiful service, even though we can't take communion there or anything like that.
Then, on Christmas we go to DH's brother's house and see his parents there and his nieces and nephews. It's really fun-we get to play with all the kids toys!!!

Baking again today-DH is out doing deliveries of donations so I'm making cinnamon bread.

BTW-I didn't mean to offend anyone here by talking up Christianity so much-but it's so normal to me. I've never met any atheists, not even too many non-Christians. DH and I both went to Bible Colleges, so everyone believed the way we did and all of our friends are from Church. Most of our families are Christian and very involved in Church. My sister's kids go to Catholic school and she's very involved there and DH's brother's wife homeschools their kids and they're very involved in their Church too. Both sets of parents are too-DH's dad is a Deacon, and both my parents teach Sunday School. Shoot, I didn't even KNOW there were Conservatives that weren't Christian!! Forgive my ignorance, I'll try and tone it down.

all it took was those two magic words, "cinnamon bread". i'm now making cinnamon rolls (allegedly the cinnabon recipe). it takes most of the day, but who cares? they're fab!

I know! That smell absolutely kills me. I had to make a second batch just so we'd have some to keep here at home! It's really miserable to smell it all day and have none to eat yourself.

i agree! there is something about cinnamon translates to "winter" and "holiday" to me. num yummy!

Not snowed in by any stretch of the imagination, but there's definitely snow on the ground. We went out and took some pictures, the kids played for awhile...just long enough to get really cold and be ready for cocoa and Amish bread. :) Our snow is really more like little round ice pellets, but it will pack int a snowball. Not enough for a snowman. How much to you guys have? Whatcom is usually colder and gets more snow than we do. It's 29* here.

Michelle, where is you husband (if it's OK to ask)? I didn't realize he was gone until I saw you post the other day that he was out of the country. DH will be leaving right after Christmas for Germany, and then deploying from there to whereabouts unknown.

He's in northern Iraq. I don't think I'm allowed to say precisely where he is. They're kinda touchy about that. Moreso when they are moving them around, but...anyhow.

kinda the same possibility here. DH's unit is deploying some guys after the first of the year but i dont know if DH will be among them nor do i know where they are going. Prob Afghanistan. DH wants to go but he's already been to Afghanistan once so I know he'd rather go to Iraq but he'll likely volunteer for whatever comes up. The only upside to a deployment is the bonus separation pay....but still not worth it in my opinion

Hugs to both of you guys. It is tough, but we get through it. Mostly because we don't have a choice.

Hey, Michelle67. I'm so glad your DH could "go to the party" and play.

DH & I went to a Christmas party for the SWAT team (I forgot there is one female on the team now) and dates. We just ate way way too much. We thought it was going to be appetizers and desserts. Uh, no! They had ribs, pork tenderloin, casseroles, dips and desserts. I took oreo truffles, and hope to not look at any more for a few days until I ahve to make them for the fire station. :rotfl2:

Oh yum. We had lots of food too. That's my favorite part of the holidays...eating like there's no tomorrow. One of our friends always makes lumpia or fried won tons. Oh yeah...I was hitting those hard. :thumbsup2

That's a fact, Jack! I haven't gone anywhere today and probably won't. I could use milk, but I think I'll just feed the kids waffles tomorrow and skip going to the store today. I have redneck neighbors around here who think they are invincible with their ginormous trucks and 4wd. Hello, ice! Curvy highway! Yeah...I'm staying home!

My cousin's love life is very complicated. He has a twin sister that lives in NC, and a couple of years ago when he went to visit her he met a woman. I know he loves her, and she has a child that he just adores. I think he would really like to marry her and help raise her daughter, but she doesn't want to move here and he is struggling with the idea of moving there. He fishes year-round, alternating between fishing out of Neah Bay and fishing up in Alaska. Airfare would eat him alive if he was "commuting" from NC. The thing is that he is also the electronics/electrical/computer guy on the boat, and those skills transition. My mother has been pushing him to take the leap of faith and go for it, and just learn to use his skills somewhere besides a boat, but he is hesitant. He did tell me last night that he's going to go to NC for Christmas. Otherwise, I'd love to set him up with someone. He needs to be a father. He'd be such a great one. Here's a better picture of him from last night. I know I'm biased, but I think he is really adorable. :lovestruc

We have several inches of snow on the ground. It's freaking icy!!!!!!! Whoa boy. I'm not driving out there. I was going to to go the mall today, but I don't think I will. It's going to stay icy up here all week, so looks like I won't be going some places and others I'll be taking the bus to. I absolutely refuse to drive in this weather because I know how to and everyone else doesn't. It's 24 degrees here with a windchill of 14. Yuck.

He is adorable. If he wasn't attached I'd bring my SIL here.

My DS just farted in his sleep. :rotfl2:

Oh yikes you guys, I meant to tell you this. I was chatting with my cousin last night and mentioned that I had been scaring the bejeebers out of you guys with pictures of the boat in winter. He said "Oh yeah...I need to get your phone number in my new phone. I had some more pictures for you, but we went swimming so they didn't make it."

Went SWIMMING?

Yeah. I don't think you could tell from the pictures I posted, but that boat is an open-backed trawler. He was standing on the stern taking more pictures of crazy weather for me, and the boat took a wave and he got washed off the stern into the water. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: It's not the first time, either. I can't BELIEVE he keeps getting back on that boat. The boy is crazy. :rotfl2:

Tell him we don't need anymore pictures!

i was wondering 'bout that, but i couldn't find the thread it was meant for! HA HA HA!! i was on a thread with that topic prior to our election, and it was quite...ummm...interesting. :lmao:

That'll teach me to post while the bread rises!!! The timer goes off and I forget where I am. :lmao:

Did anyone read about Sarah Palin's Church! Our Pastor said this morning that it was set on fire!
