Hi everyone. It was a quiet weekend. We had a yard sale, yesterday and today. That should gives us a little more Christmas money. :goodvibes I have finals this week and papers due and all of that fun stuff.

I'm jealous you have SNOW. I am almost 50 years old and have had ONE white Christmas in my life!! and that was like an inch or so. I love snow.

For those of you not in the Christmas spirit...let's find a little cheer. Watch you favorite Christmas movies..must be a comedy. Make cookies and hot cocoa...string some popcorn. That's not doing the trick? There's always...CHRISTMAS KARAOKE!!:scared1: :rotfl: Put on the silliest, craziest, dorkiest Christmas sweater/shirt you can find. Have fun, smile, laugh, I had fun turning the trees...on and off...on and off...with the remote.... took DH a while to figure out what was "wrong" with the lights   It's Christmas!!! :santa: :santa: :santa:

That put a big smile on my face. Thank you. Oh, and we never get snow here. I'd love for it to snow- just once.

Ok, I've never posted a picture before, so here goes...

Did I do the picture right? I've never used Photobucket-should I change the link or something?

The birthday girl liked it, that's what counts!
That turned out great!

Awwwww - did you get a pic? :cutie:

We took DD to see Santy Clauze today, too! I made DH go with me because he has a giant paparazzi camera and he's the only one who knows how to use it (and I wanted extra pics). :)

DD did really well! She was tired, too. She kept looking up at Santa :cutie: She was probably scared stiff :guilty: . The family standing behind us in line complimented us though on our well behaved DD.:rolleyes1

As she sat on Santa's lap I was overcome with emotion and almost burst out crying. She is the best gift we have and will ever receive. :cloud9:
I did get a pic but it's just a polaroid. We're going to get a family Christmas photo taken soon.

I almost cried, too, when he sat on Santa's lap. But don't tell anyone, I have a reputation to maintain. :snooty:
Most people think I have a hardened little tar-heart surrounded by a pericardium made of blackened lumps of coal with ice-water running through my veins, but I don't. But shhhhh...don't tell anyone! ;)

Hi everyone,

Sorry to interrupt your conversation, but I have something important to ask. Has anyone heard from Honugirl? I just checked her post history and found out that she posted quite a few times on this thread. The DIS Unicorn Club members and I haven't heard from her since Thanksgiving and we're a little concerned. Before Thanksgiving, she was on the DIS practically every day. If anyone has any info, please let me know. I just want to make sure that she's all right. Thanks so much.

We haven't. She is on my facebook, though, so I can check there and see if she's posted anything on there if you want.

Hi guys! I spent the day at our little charity's fundraising event. Ten live bands, raffle giveaways between bands, and a silent auction. I donated eight bracelets to the raffle, and also bought tickets and won a couple of raffle items, including a nice bag of Charbucks Christmas coffee (I dislike Starbucks). :lmao: I'm gonna regift that one, I know just the person who will enjoy it. In fact it will go nicely with the Starbucks gift card I already bought for him. :thumbsup2

The bidding wasn't going super great for the auction, people don't seem to have as much money to spend this year. But there were bids, and most importantly people came out to support us, paid their cover charge (we get it all) to hear the music, and the raffle tickets were selling well. Hopefully in the end it will be a good fundraiser and feed a lot of families for Christmas. Goodness knows there is a lot of need this year.

OMGoodness
I am finally caught up.
I posted a few threads ago, that I was not feeling well.
It appears that the reason is that I might have a heart problem
I had an EKG that turned out to be abnormal.
I have a stress test scheduled for Thursday of this week.
I would appreciate prayers and good thoughts
PS I don't know how to add the snowball thingie, but I would love to add it.

 I'm sorry to hear that. That must have been scary news for you. Prayers and healing thoughts.
Hi everyone. It sounds like everyone has been very productive this weekend.

I have overbought for DD and have to decide what to return. I am having a hard time cause I know she would like it all. But really I must have some restraint! ;) It is so easy when they are little! Now DS doesn't really have anything in his pile! He says all he wants is texting. I decided to hide in the Dis for awhile and then go back and decide what to do.

Oh my...I've done that many times! Seems like every year there is one child that I just keep finding great stuff for, and the next thing I know they have WAY too much. It isn't always the same child. One year it was my teenager that just had a zillion things. This year I seem to keep finding stuff for my five year old son.

happy monday :)

I had a long weekend, so I wasn't around on the computer much at all. Spent most of the day Saturday cleaning house because my in-laws came yesterday for a couple of days. This is their first time to get to see Jacob. In between cleaning, taking care of 4 kids, and such, I managed to sneak in a little sewing time. The quilt top I posted pics of a couple of weeks ago I finally finished piecing together, and got it sandwiched so I just have to do the quilting and binding on it and it's done. I also finished up an afghan I had been working on, and my online group had a mystery quilt weekend this weekend so I started cutting on that. It will be a large quilt when it is done so I didn't get all the way finished cutting on it. I had to stop for awhile after cutting 200 rectangles, 400 triangles, 50 some-odd diamonds, and dozens of squares.

DH spent ALL DAY yesterday putting up the christmas lights and stuff outside. He got it all done with DD10's help. We got these banner things before Christmas last year at Wal-mart, because they were different from cheesy things we'd seen in the past, and surprisingly apparently nobody else got them, because we had several people stop yesterday after they were up to inquire about them. One has the 3 wise men going toward the Star and says "Behold a Son is Born..." and the other is a silouette of a soldier kneeling by a Christmas Tree and simply says "Support our Troops". So far we haven't had a negative response, but then again, it is very obvious we area military family, with Air Force decals on our cars and a giant AF Flag flying beside our American Flag (Both of which are proudly displayed 365). I tried to find a picture of them but can't. I'll try to take one and show you guys.

That Ayers thread literally makes me nauseated, to the point where I can't even continue to read it. If this is what "higher education" is doing to our country then I'll have no part of it, thank you very much.

On a lighter note...DH bought me the Jeff Dunham christmas special dvd and we watched it Friday night. I love him.:lovestruc

BASH BASH BASH...

Apparently, there's a lot of bashing going on in here.

Here's my contribution.

YEP, We're a regular bunch of haters....we got a rep to protect ya know....can't let anyone know that we actually like anyone besides ourselves;)

Hello everyone! What are we bashing today?

So, what are your predictions with the automotive industry? Think we are going to bail them out? Are they going to be filing bankruptcy?

We'll be stimulating the economy on Wednesday when we go to the dealership to get a new car. I still can't make up my mind if I want a minivan or a Dodge Durango.

Oh great. FOX just announced that Dow Chemical is laying off 11% of its workforce. Great.

Michigan can't handle this. I don't know what our state is going to do.

Good morning!

That cake is beautiful! I wish I had picked up the talent/baking/craft gene. I make stick figures on my overheads/whiteboards to make points. Its not pretty! LOL

MM>> Go with the NON minivan! We're still on the fence, here, too. I'm waiting for another rebate to show up! DH keeps threatening to get me a used green Grenada if I don't find a job soon.

I have exactly TWO presents bought. We have ideas for three others. DS won't tell us what he wants because he thinks if he asks for nothing he can have a car in May for his birthday. I told him Santa will buy him socks and underwear if he doesn't make a list!

Our tree isn't up yet because I still have ladders and scaffold all over my living room. I think I need to stop avoiding the paint cans. The only thing that is up is my Nativity scene. I guess a certain thread got to me and I did find the box in the basement that contained all of my pieces handed down from my grandma and mother, with some we've also added.

How did I miss this? It's adorable!! Good job!

I know you've mentioned that MI has taken an economic hit in recent years. What's the problem...are people moving away and factories/jobs/businesses closing down? Do they know the reason?

*switching back to news*

I have this deep dark feeling that 75 is just going to shut down. ie, everything along it will just cease to exist. We can't deal with anymore layoffs around here! Every day it's someone else. We were commenting Saturday night when we went out Christmas shopping how strange our little town feels. The houses do have lights up, but most turn them off at 9pm or there abouts. The houses are dark. People are turning off lights and keeping down their electric bills. People who have jobs go ot work and come home. There isn't a lot of driving done outside of those things. Our little town is just TOO quiet now! The huge traffic jam when school lets out for the MS no longer exists. The kids are on the buses now. Grocery stores are more filled, but if you look in the carts its more basic items, less frills. Restaurants are definitely emptier. I would say most people who live here have Chrysler, GM, Delphi, or other GM supplier tie.

Its going to be a long winter.

Since you dislike Starbucks, I have a cute little story you might appreciate. The other day my FIL was at a little strip center that has a Starbucks on one end and a Dunkin Donuts on the other. As he walked up to Dunkin Donuts a young lady was coming out with a couple of boxes of donuts and one of those big drink boxes filled with coffee.

So he holds the door for her and offers to help her carry it to her car. She politely declines because she is just walking down to Stabucks.:confused3 She saw the puzzled look on his face and explains that her and her coworkers can't stand Starbucks coffee so they make a Dunkin run everyday to get some decent cofee!:lmao: He then watches as she walk right over to Starbucks and goes right in.

The amount of layoffs/early forced retirements/plant closings in SE Michigan is staggering. Its not just the big three, but their major and minor suppliers along with many engineering firms (McClaren comes to mind. My uncle worked (past tense, he's layed off)for them). The news seems to keep on forgetting to post the existing losses when they talk about what could happen if the industry goes under. For all the family members I had working directly or indirectly with the auto industry the only person still working is DH. Scary.

As of last month Michigan ran out of Unemployment money. I'm guessing we're taking federal dollars now.

Don't doubt it. I have a friend who a barista for Barnes & Noble and they serve star-yucks coffee. She can't stand it.
Of course, other than TLSnell I don't know anyone who loves their brand of burnt dirt. :lmao:

Here's some random goofiness:
