I'm not really claustrophobic, but I know better than to try that. It looks way too closed up for my liking. Plus I was there a few years ago when that little boy passed away on it. I have no desire to feel the equivalent force of an astronaut's launch into space. They have all kinds of tests done on them before they experience that amount of G-force; your average tourist does not. It's a safe ride technically speaking, but you can't ride it with heart problems and such. My thing is, unless you've noticed a problem and gone to the doctor for it, you have no way of knowing if you might have something like that or not. That's what I tend to think happens when people die on these rides; had a heart or other medical problem they weren't aware of, and then the ride makes it worse.

you're pretty closed in there, that's for sure.

as far as thrill rides go, this probably wouldn't count. it is what you're looking at the makes the ride sensational, and that it is coupled with some movement (but not much!). it's 2 g-force and it last for mabye ten seconds. rock n roller coaster is g-force 4.5. i think it is the close space that really freaks people out.

Perhaps I'm thinking of the G-force when the ride first opened. I know it used to be more than that. And I actually avoid RnR for the exact same reason. I don't like the idea of that launch. Never been on it, never will (also because I hate going upside down in roller coasters :scared: ).

ya notice the force and upside down feeling on the roller coaster more than you feel anything on mission space, but if you don't like that, you'd wouldn't like the ride.

I guess that I've been lucky: I've never been stuck in there with non-bathing people.

mars doesn't allow people to arrive on the planet without having bathed. they'll vaporize if they get out of the pod that way, so they aren't allowed IN the pod that way.
Maybe NASA does that but certainly not Alaska Airlines!

Me, neither. I got stuck with and behind lots of non-bathers in lines at DLR. It's like okay, hippie, patchouli does not replace soap and water!

I'm pretty sure Deb that you have to do it at the guest services window because you have to give them your park hopper so they can see how many days you have left, etc.

I had something interesting happen on our last visit. DH went to buy an AP. My talkative self...happen to mention we had visited WDW earlier in the year and wished I had purchased a pass. The CM swiped my credit card....looked up what he had purchased last March and CREDITED THE AMOUNT TO THE PURCHASE OF THE AP!!!! We paid $111 to purchase the AP. Now, it does expire one year from the date of his original park hopper but,.....$111 for a week at Disney....that was a bargin.

THAT was very disney!

i understand the california pass can be purchased on a payment plan now. i thought that was pretty interesting.

That is so funny; and, sadly, true...

:lmao:

Now, I've been stuck several times on a London tube train, during rush hour - which means armpit to armpit - with plenty of non-bathing Europeans  - but so far I've been fine at both DL and WDW.

Anyone play golf?

Our firm has a "fun day" each year - later in the year, right before tax season picks up again. The last few years, since I've join the firm, it has been bowling. Which, by the way, I suck at. I'm doing good to score a 32 in a game. But, I can at least participate - even if all of my balls wind up in the gutter.

My friend is on the fun committee and told me that this year they plan to go back to golf. They’ve done golf before – and it’s not putt-putt – but that’d be harder to participate in than bowling is if you aren’t good at it.

So, my options would be to stay at work – and work -or get paid to go and play golf for the afternoon. There’s a driving range just down the road from me and I’ve been thinking that it might be fun to start hitting golf balls on the week-end. Maybe if I do this enough, I’ll be good enough to participate on the fun day. I’ve inherited my Dad’s golf clubs – although I’ve lent them out to my cousin’s husband who’s really into golf but doesn’t have a lot of money to purchase his own clubs. I’m playing around with the idea of buying a few clubs for me and going to the driving range every Saturday - that’d be fun exercise – right?

Any tips? I don't even know where to start with buying anything. Obviously I'd need a driver for the driving range.

Definitely do this: you are outside, get to ride around in a golf cart, and even if you are terrible, so what? I have never liked to play (that stance is just a little creepy to me, kwim), but dh was an addict for many years. I would suggest taking a few classes, let the pro know what your plan is and go from there. That might be cheaper than buying clubs first.

First of all,

Happy Birthday, Hilarie with an H!

[I regret, in my dismay about the AP, I didn't mention it earlier!]

Since Wonder's smiley ate the other cake that was posted, perhaps the rest of us can munch on this...

[okay, I'm not sure that's altogether edible but it sure is cute.] Here's another:
