Helllooooooooooooooooooooo my long lost friends :cool1:

I'm back! Did ya miss me? It has been a week from hades here. I feel icky. DS has been icky, DH has been icky. Work was crazy, then we had that ice storm that closed down my office for a day which made work even MORE crazy, issues with my brother's family, just all around drama.

Thank god that week is over. Bring on February. 9 more days till my Birthday, whom I proudly share with none other than Fox's newest ratings hero, Glenn Beck.

I gotta run but I'll be right back. I've got something neat to ask you guys for help with!

Wouldn't be fair to the serious golfers to be held back or fair to the non-golfers? :rotfl:

Hey, keep your eye out for other CP's, Soarin'. Ya never know. Maybe you'll find a young GB. ;)

I think Dolce's high score will be a gift for her co-workers that "think" they are good players. Even the worst golfer could say, "...but I was still 120 strokes behind Dolce..." Camaraderie at its finest!:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Howdy! Welcome back...sorry you've had such a bad week. :grouphug:

I guess we better start baking your birthday cake - it's only 9 days away!

This is OT, but I saw on the news a bit ago about Phelps getting his picture snapped while he was doing marijuana. :sad2: I remember the DUI incident from after the 2004 games. You'd think he'd have been smarter than that, but oh well. Throw money and fame and success at a lot of athletes, and out the door their sense goes. I don't think athletes should be role models for anyone, but the fact remains that for many HS kids especially, they are. They don't or think they don't have role models in their own lives, so they look to successful athletes and want to be like them. It's not right, but it's true. I just wish these celebrities would try to understand that. I personally take the attitude of everyone makes mistakes, but you have to pay the consequences for them. I just hate seeing young kids looking up to people who break the law.

My other main problem with this is his comment "I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way." Um no, buddy, you acted in an inappropriate way. I hate it when people get caught doing something stupid and/or illegal and it's just explained away as "Oh, they're young." I am 25 years old, and I have never smoked anything and never drank. I don't even know what most drugs look like, and the only ones I do know what they look like are because I took a class on how substance abuse affects families for my Master's degree. The professors showed us pictures of some drugs. So don't go saying that being young is the cause of it. Plenty of young people never touch drugs. It's just excusing away bad behavior, much like womanizers are explained away by the saying "Oh, boys will be boys!" :rolleyes2

I'm also a bit bewildered by the comments in the thread about this here on the DIS that essentially say almost everyone has smoked marijuana at some point. Huh? Of all the hundreds of people I've known, I've only known one who said she did, and that was a girl in one of my college classes. None of my friends have ever touched drugs, as far as I'm aware. No one in my family either, again, as far as I'm aware. So I'm having a bit of trouble comprehending the statements that "most people" do marijuana.

So your b-day is May 10th? Mine is April 25th, about 2 weeks before yours. :goodvibes

Thank you everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes. It makes me feel :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes so special. You're the best!!!

I did have a good day. We went to my mom's house and pigged out. My sister bought this amazing, beautiful cake from Costco called "All American Chocolate Cake" it weighed 7 lbs! (Of course, we forgot to snap a picture of it.) I am a junk food eating champion and even I couldn't eat a whole piece. It was too rich, too big, and too chocolaty, but ooooooooooh my goodness, it was so good. I felt a sugar coma coming on after just a few bites. We watched the game while we ate ridiculous amounts of food and visited. It was lovely. Pretty much a perfect, laid back, family day. Just my style.

I hope everybody else enjoyed Superbowl Sunday as much as I did!

My DH said that the new mantra is "Rush's fault" because they only had to change a consonant.

:lmao:

Oh, thought I'd share this- took this tonight at HM. Doesn't this look like the ultimate Halloween setting?

Yay! JB's back!!! So happy to see you :cool1:

ok you crafty guys, if any of you are quilters, I could really use your help. I'm gonna post this over on the crafty board too, but thought I'd start here with you guys.

Most of you know that I'm a quilter. A group I'm involved with has adopted an organization this year to donate quilts to. Our very own Transparent is involved with a group working with disabled/wounded soldiers, and I got her group approved as the recipient of our quilts this year. Last year we were able to make 18 quilts for the charity organization we worked with. I'd like to double that this year. These quilts will go to wounded soldiers at Walter Reed, and in backpacks that will go to wounded soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Here is what we do...we have a block pattern and a theme/color scheme to follow that is different for each month. The block is the same for 3 months, only changing colors. In January, the block was Friendship Star, and the colors were blue stars on white backgrounds. For February the block is the same, only we would like red stars on white backgrounds. These are really simple blocks and we could use as many blocks as we can get. Each person that donates commits to making at least 2 blocks, but as many as you like. All the blocks are sent to one person who pieces the top, then another volunteer quilts and finishes the quilt before sending them off to the organization.

For January, we had enough blocks volunteered to make 2 quilts. I'm hoping for at least 3 in February. Here is a picture of 2 blocks made for January, along with a picture of one of the pieced tops.

If any of you would like to volunteer to sew a couple of blocks for one of these quilts, please PM me for more details.

ITA -- add to that expected behavior sexual promiscuity and drunkenness...why is it that we pick and choose those behaviors that are expected? In our PC society, you never hear, 'oh, it's okay that those frat guys hazed the new freshmen. they're young...' or 'no biggie that those guys raped that girl - it's natural, hormones!'

And what's up with the euphemism of 'inappropriate'? How about 'illegal,' for starters?

Sad to hear about Phelps, too...I thought he handled himself very well during the Olympics - much more poised than 4 years ago.

What an amazing idea! I have no domestic talents whatsoever, but I'd like to help. Is there anything else that can be contributed besides quilting? What else will be in the backpacks for the wounded soldiers? Can I add to those in some way? I'd love to add whatever might be needed, if I could.

Have you been there for MNSSHP? It's awesome! They have special lighting, fog machines, and the CM's are wearing more detailed costumes and white zombie make-up. :hmghost: :hmghost: :hmghost:

Yum -- I love me some Costco cakes - don't know who bakes 'em but they sure do a good job. I'll pass along that recommendation.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: for Hilarie's happy birthday!
