We're freakin' doomed. This country has lost its collective mind and elected itself a complete and total national embarrassment. Did he also thank "the Academy"?

Seriously, he has become an embarassment. He thinks he is a rock star and the media just eggs him on.:lmao:

Loco - Debbie Stabenow is my senator. Can't stand her. I think I may go and write her a nice email.

Question about the Fairness Doctrine - is it even Constitutional?

Yeah, she's mine, too. Hannity went off on his radio show today. I've never heard him so angry. I'm calling her. Levin, too. They need to know how we feel.

I just want to say that this thread has the bravest women on it! SD and sarasotamom, you are both obviously great caregivers and I hope and pray your loved ones will be well soon. :grouphug:

My take on docs: sometimes I think they are overly cautious because of the possibility of litigation. Wish sometimes they were more intuitive, though.

I only caught the early parts of the speech. He thanked the Dems because it gave him a chance to use Air Force One and joked that it is pretty cool. So let me get this straight. We keep hearing about how everyone is suffering and this guy is joking about taking his new toy out for a spin? How about setting an example and teleconferencing instead of using more natural resources in one day than an average family will use in a lifetime? I'm glad that you can tell us how bad everything is while you are laughing at sweet you have it. Nice.:sad2:

He also mentioned how we can't have the same failed policies of the previous administration that brought us such high deficits. Well excuse me Mr. President, but just what the heck do you think the stimulus with all its pork will do for our deficit. Does this guy even put any thought into any of this or his he just one big walking sound bite?

Why couldn't he just get in a limo and drive to Williamsburg. (With the secret service of course) Talk about a giant carbon footprint. If I remember right, I think it took us less than 2 hours to get to Williamsburg from DC. The Kingsmill Resort is very nice. Not much to do there in the winter though. Busch Gardens is closed, too cold for the golf course, playing tennis might warm you up. They have a very nice spa and many great resturants. They have an awesome Sunday brunch.

Does he not realize that he is doing what all CEOs are doing?

Well I guess I am raising my son right. We had a parent teacher conference tonight, so we decided to hit the Scholastic book before we met with the teacher.

He went right by all three books on Obama, including one that had a title something like "YES WE CAN! President Obama Speaks to The Children. A collection of excerpts from his speeches.":scared:

So what did he buy instead?

A book called "Who Was Walt Disney". :cool1:

Like I said, I think I am rasing him right!!!!!

Smart kid! :thumbsup2

:I know my daughter has truly amazed me through this. She is my hero and she has made this mom mighty proud.
:grouphug: You and your daughter will be in my prayers. So glad she's in remission.
As for bho doing what the other CEO's do, yeah, but he thinks he's above it. And you know the msm will never call him on it.
I doubt he'll play tennis to warm up, I'm sure he'll spend most of the time in the gym. You know, like he did instead of seeing wounded troops in Iraq.

SD, you're still in my prayers, as always.

Oh! Just saw a Pittsburgh Steelers "Going to WDW!" commercial. Didn't realize they still did those!

SD, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Many :grouphug: to you.

:grouphug: I have been there. I know what you are feeling. My daughter was diagnosed with Diffused B-Cell Lymphoma in September. She finished her last chemo January 6. Pet scan came back clear, no tumors anywhere. :) She is now in remission. She gets her port out Wednesday. :cheer2:

I call her tonight and she is down. Previously her oncologist said that she would need Ritoxin (chemo drug) once every six months for two years. Well now today, he says that he is not sure about this. He is going to a conference and depending on the new research she may not need it (or in his words, it might not make any difference.) Seriously, does he not know that this makes his patients worry? We have decided to do the Ritoxin regardless of what the new fangled research says. This is not a chemo drug that makes you sick or makes you lose your hair. The other chemo drugs (CHOP) have made her lose her hair and made her sick.

We might just go to Moffitt Cancer Center and get a second opinion. I have really trusted this doctor until he said this today. I'm sending prayers to your mom and to you. I know how much stress this can bring on a family. You will be surprised how much courage your mom has. I know my daughter has truly amazed me through this. She is my hero and she has made this mom mighty proud.

:grouphug: sounds like your daughter's mom is pretty heroic herself

Hey, did y'all hear the latest from Barney Frank?!?! Let's see... minimum wage, maximum wage... What's next?

There’s deeply rooted anger on the part of the average American,” the Massachusetts Democrat said at a Washington news conference today.

He said the compensation restrictions would apply to all financial institutions and might be extended to include all U.S. companies.

The provision will be part of a broader package that would likely give the Federal Reserve the authority to monitor systemic risk in the economy and to shut down financial institutions that face too much exposure, Mr. Frank said.

Morning All. Charles Krauthammer has a piece in today's Washington Post that is well worth a read. I LOVE his title. After Obama's "warning" that the porkulus bill must be passed NOW or catastrophe will follow, Krauthammer titled his piece "The Fierce Urgency of Pork." What a great — and apt — title.

Anyway, here's Krauthammer's conclusion:

After Obama's miraculous 2008 presidential campaign, it was clear that at some point the magical mystery tour would have to end. The nation would rub its eyes and begin to emerge from its reverie. The hallucinatory Obama would give way to the mere mortal. The great ethical transformations promised would be seen as a fairy tale that all presidents tell -- and that this president told better than anyone.

I thought the awakening would take six months. It took two and a half weeks.

Hmmm, I guess that little "get-together" the HHO invited Krauthammer to didn't pull the wool over Charlie's eyes.

Thanks for that shock first thing in the morning. Where is that darn puking smiley?

At least she has her eyes closed. I can't even look into her psycho eyes!

Soccer Donald - I am so sorry to hear about your mom. Unfortunately, all of you have entered the complicated world of cancer where there are very few clear cut answers. Most decisions are based upon educated guesses because as much as you "think" you know how the tumor is going to react, you never know for sure. That is why doc's take their time to try to decide what is best for your mom.

Just a little background on me. For many years I ran Cancer clinics using a multidisciplinary approach to cancer. All 3 docs ( Surgical, medical and radiation oncologists) would meet with the patient examine her and the consult with each other as to the best approach to take with the patients particular type of breast cancer. So I have a very good understanding of what you are going through and how difficult it is to tweeze through all the information you are receiving.

I think people are under the impression that there is only one type of breast cancer with one type of treatment. The truth is that it is a lot more complicated than that and a lot less cut and dried.

The test he wants to run may very well be worth it. In order to treat a tumor you need to know so much information. It will give you a better picture of the actual tumor itself and how it might respond to different treatments. Making that "educated guess" more educated if you will.

A surgical oncologist, medical oncologist(chemotherapy) and a radiation oncologist work together to treat a patient but their roles are very different and only overlap slightly. A surgical oncologist will know all the protocols of chemotherapy but not necessarily which one would be right for each individual patient. That is the role of the medical oncologist, Likewise, the radiation oncologist is important in the treatment but cannot recommend the best surgical approach. The 3 HAVE to work in concert together to provide optimal care to the patient. Each have a very important ,albeit different, role and none can do it alone.

A surgical oncologist is a surgeon with a surgeon's mind. "I've cut it out and now it will be ok!" is his attitude. That is not always the case though, depends on the type of tumor. He is the doc that help the patient decide, lumpectomy, mastectomy etc., any surgical approach the patient may be able to take. I would listen but not necessarily trust his judgement entirely when it comes to chemo which is not his speciality.

The chemo Doc is the one who decides which chemotherapeutic protocol is necessary if any at all. Sometimes, even though you think you have removed the tumor completely, small cells remain behind. These cells are microscopic and you are unable to detect them. These cells can go on and multiply to cause a recurrence of the cancer, anywhere else in the body. THIS reason is why many medical oncologist recommend chemo. they think they got it all but they are not SURE. It is like an insurance policy for the patient as the chemo will kill these free floating cancer cells before they get a chance to reoccur.

Again, no one knows for sure whether these cells exist. It is extremely difficult to test for them and It is an educated guess on the Dr.'s part. The patient for her part has to decide if she would be willing to take that risk and not use chemo or take the chemo and it's side effects for the extra reassurance that chemo can afford. THIS is where the judgement of the Medical oncologist comes in. Listen to him with regards to this and NOT the Surgical Oncologist. He has the better understanding of what needs to be done.

Some tumors are also very hormonally sensitive. This is important because many can be treated with a simple hormonal therapy and others need more aggressive treatment. Again a good reason to test further to make SURE he know what he is dealing with.

The radiation oncologist is the doc that usually comes last after all the other treatments. Quite often with an early breast cancer, his services are not needed. The surgery and Chemo is enough. Again, he knows the chemo protocols and how he would then proceed based on which one that patient was given but it is not his area of expertise. Take his opinion but do not give it too much weight.

My advice would be to take the test, find the information that the chemo doc is looking for, listen to his final recommendations and then, decide if you want a second opinion from another Medical Oncologist. That way your second opinion would have as much weight as the first opinion. Do not use the Surgical or Radiation Oncologist as a second opinion. Theirs are not educated enough to count in this situation.

Your mom is lucky that the cancer has been caught early enough that she has a great chance of surviving. Just keep that in mind.

I am sorry if I stepped out of bounds with this information but you sounded so confused and I thought this might be helpful. If you need any clarification, please let me know. And best of luck with your dear Mom.

This is what I was trying to say in my earlier post, but do to your expertise in this field, explained it so much better than I.:)

Wow it appears I missed a lot yesterday. I'm all caught up now though.

So sad about that baby.

SD I hope the test comes back quickly for your mom!

oh and I saw Obama's first flight. They showed it on Fox news too. He had to take extra time to show off his jacket.

Hi guys! I've missed you-but I can't even begin to catch up. DH got a little crazy the other night when I was STILL on the internet after dinner. He saw the topic of one of the threads I was in and he said "I thought this was a DISNEY board? What the heck are you people going on about GENDER for??"

He's right-I was spending WAY too much time online. I got addicted very quickly, you guys are all so interesting and it's fun to read all those opinions and get involved in the discussions.

So, my presence will be a little less frequent going forward-but I'll still be thinking of all of you-especially those of you who are going through such difficult times. My prayers are with you.

Very interesting, indeed. I think Obama love is like teen love: It burns hot…for awhile…and then it sputters out, ends badly, and you just want him to transfer out of your English class so you don't have to look at him anymore cuz you can't believe you ever liked that jerk. :rotfl:

:lmao: Funny.

I just heard Reid didn't get his 60 votes tonight. They start again in the morning.

Anyone watch Fox News last night around 10pm EST? They had Sen Graham on. I was rather impressed by him.

I saw this and couldn't help myself. :crazy2: I had to make it.

Did you see his first flight on Marine One? The Marine was standing at attention saluting and he went up and shook his hand. The marine looked startled.

I guess he doesn't understand protocol. He's just having fun with all the cool toy soldiers that the voters gave him to play with.:sad2:

It was another chance for the president to demonstrate his salute, which he did in crisp fashion as he walked toward the presidential helicopter. But when he approached the Marine who was standing at attention at the base of the steps, Mr. Obama leaned in and offered his hand. The young Marine quickly returned the handshake from his commander in chief before snapping back to his salute.

The moment, which is almost certainly not scripted in any protocol manuals, offered a window into the new trappings of office. Presidents typically give a salute and ascend the stairs without barely even making eye contact with the waiting Marine.

Anybody see this yesterday?

Military Drops Cole Bombing Charges ... For Now and Possibly Forever

I think this is a reaaaaaaaaaaally bad idea for all of us, as it signals to our enemies that we are weak.

I feel just terrible for the families of those who died on the USS Cole.

I am thinking the "Bush Lied" crowd will view this as a victory.

Funny, that.
