Connection time?

This question is actually for Hawaii - flying United and arriving Oahu at 1:05pm - I can take a 2:45pm Southwest flight to the Big Island (Kona) to get the actual size of car I need (suburban) and then Drive 1.5 hours to get to Hilo where I am actually staying or take a 3:45 pm flight to Hilo and get a smaller car (armada) plus a 1 day rental on a car just got luggage because I don’t think the Armada will have room for 7 people full size luggage. Do you think that I could make the 2:45 connection?

I would have to get off the plane pick up luggage then go to the Southwest counter checkin luggage and get on the southwest flight all within 1.5 hours with 7 people. Don’t have any idea of the size of the Honolulu airport or where the United and southwest gates are.

I haven’t been to Honolulu in quite a while but I would say no only because of your checked bags. If it weren’t for that then you would have plenty of time.

How far is the place you're staying from Hilo airport? Close enough to drop off luggage at hotel then go back to airport and pick up the rest of your group.

There is no way I'd try to make that connection while changing airlines. If it was on the same airline I'd say book it and if you don't make the connection have them change you to the later flight. If for any reason you're flight in is late or problems on the ground at HNL that will kill what little buffer you have.
