how Southwest figures these fares out.... I cut and paste it below. Got DING went to the site immediately as I was already on the computer. My initial dates that I put in were sold out already! How does that happen?

Next I'm confused about the 40% off and if the 40% off results in a rate being forty something dollars How do I wind up with $150 plus r/t per person (2 total)

BASE FARE/40%fare/ADJ.FARE/U.S Taxes/Sec.Fee/TOTAL

Depart PHL-MCO DING!™ Fare $107.92 $43.17 $64.75 $8.06 $7.00 $159.62
Return MCO-PHL DING!™ Fare $107.90 $43.16 $64.74 $8.06 $5.50 $156.60

Total $215.82 $86.33 $129.49 $16.12 $12.50 $316.22

1 Security Fee is the government-imposed September 11th Security Fee.

If it's too dumb of a question, just disregard!!!

Next time click on the Ding message itself. There's a place to put dates in on top and then choose your airport and destination to the right.

HTH

I can't download Ding at Work to make it clearer.

You put in for fares for 2 people. The starting fare ONE WAY is $107.92 PP. When you deduct the 40% (43.17/PP) you get a base fare of $64.75/PP. Add the taxes of $8.06 and Sec fee of $7.00/pp and you get a PP rate of $79.81 DOWN. The security fee coming back is $1.50 lower so the return fare PP is $78.30. When you add them together, you get a RT of $158.11/PP.

If you didn't have the 40% off fare, your starting base amount would have been $107.92/PP each way. Hope this helps.

for some reason I thought that the $40 something dollars was the FARE but it represents what you are SAVING. Wow, okay, now I see. I just couldn't understand how if the fare was $40 something each way how did my total wind up at $150 plus per person but the now I get it.

Thanks.
