Going to WDW in Apr 06; we're taking my 3 yr old granddaughter, and my two daughters and their hubbys. Dedfinitely want beach oriented surroundings so we can relax "at the beach" to unwind. Have tentatively booked 3 rms at BC. The sandbottom pool and the surroundings look attractive. Four of the six of us will probably spend most time at MK. We think we'll like amenities (pool, atmosphere, etc) at BC but subsequently thought it would be good to have monorail access to MK. Thought Poly may be a good alternative. But, my wife is concerned that since it's the oldest resort, it may be a bit run down, etc. Our only experience with Disney hotel is the GF several years ago. Was great, but I thought it may be a bit formal for a 3 yr old (and pricey). Any thoughts or guidance. :confused3

The Poly is beautiful. They have been re-doing all the long houses, you could ask here to find out which have been done recently.

The beach area is lovely, the volcano pool slide is a hoot, and watching the fireworks at MK from the pool is sublime. Lit torches at night to guide you. 'Ohana and Kona Cafe are both great spots to eat.

And, as you said, access to the monorail is VERY convenient with a 3yr. old.

I have never been to the BC or the Poly, (have yet to convince the hubby to spend the money to stay at the Poly, he'd rather to other deluxe resorts such as AKL or BW.) Anyway, the one thing about the BC location is the access to the Boardwalk! They have some good night activities, ESPN, a bunch of resturants, etc. There is also Fanatsia mini golf close by and you can walk to MGM or EPCOT. I know you said that MK was your park choice, but with that amount of people you may want a variety.

I thought the same thing about the Poly before I actually stayed there. It gave me that "Bradys' go to Hawaii" feeling. But once I checked in, I loved it! The rooms are in good shape, they just redid the grounds and they are GORGEOUS and being on the monorail is just perfect.

Poly definitely gives you that "beachy" feel. You are right on the beach whereas the BC is over a walkway (although it does have Storm Along Bay). Not too much different, but I loved being able to sit in a hammock on the Poly shores and see the GF and CR, not to mention the MK! It was a short walk to the bar there to grab a "beachy" cocktail ;) and the newly remodeled pool is right there too. I highly recommend getting concierge service since the building is right there on the beach and next to the pool.

Now BC is my favorite b/c its so close to Epcot, then again its just me and DH. You can't go wrong with either.

You can go here to see how much work has been done just in the last few years to make the Polynesian newer than most of the resorts. There is very little you can see that is original from when the Polynesian opened and a couple of the longhouses are only a few years older than the GF.
