Confused on what to do....

Is it smart to buy in at two places at once, or is it better to add on later. Our SSR contract is for 150 points. Don't rush, wait a few more weeks to see how your SSR contract goes.

There are lots of AKV resale contracts available and Disney is ROFR'ing almost none of these. If Disney ROFRs your SSR contract, consider making an offer on an AKV resale for $65/point or less. A couple have reported getting through at AKV at $60/point recently.

Buying resale is only stressful if you make it that way. I have gone to contract on 11 resale contracts (6 were taken by ROFR) and the only time it was at all stressful was due to a specific seller's irresponsible actions (plural--there were many). Other than that, I negotiate, sign the contracts, and send to ROFR. At some point down the road I get an email from my broker and then a few weeks after that I close and get the points. It's relatively stress free.

There is a group think hysterical mentality on here sometimes that I think is a real disservice to prospective buyers. Resale is an 8-12 week process, and we know that going in. So know that, relax, and enjoy your savings.

If you are stressed now, just wait until you try to book a room at a non-home resort and find out that there isn't availability.

Slow down and take your time. Buy your SSR contract to stay at all of the DVC resorts so you can decide what you really like. You might not like SSR or DVC for that matter.

I agree resale is only stressful if you make it. DVC is a long term purchase. We are in the middle of a resale that has taken 5 weeks to close since ROFR was waived but I am not the slightest bit stressed. I am buying now because we have the funds although our next holiday isn't until 2015, although our contract has points we could use before then we will use them if we get them quickly enough if we don't we will rent them.

Where it gets stressful is where people buy a contract for a specific holiday within 6 months of offering and then things can get a little hysterical.

If you don't pass ROFR with one contract no big deal another will come along especially when you are looking for SSR and AKV. If you were looking for VWL or VGC things are a little more restricted but they still come along.

I don't see the problem with buying two resale contracts at the same time, better to take your time and save money than rush in and pay twice as much

Thanks for all the advice. I was more stressed the first two days than I actually am now. Life with two kids with busy schedules does not leave a lot of time to worry about passing. (At least quite as much). I think you just read about others stressing and freaking out and you start to feel the same.

We are going this December to Disney with my dad, but he has us booked at POFQ. We are hoping to use our DVC points (as long as they go through) for spring break. (I know busy time, and book right at 11 month mark).

I will take the advice....relax, be patient, and hope for the best.

Exactly. This is why I caution people about getting hysterical about their pending purchase, because others read that and do the same. It hasn't happened on here in awhile, but the possibility exists for quite a firestorm.
