Confused.....don't be surprised

Ok, we aren't planning on taking a trip next summer. We don't know where we are going yet but anyway....I don't think I can stand to go that long without going to Disney. We won't go until June of 2011. Here is what I would like to do, but I have confused myself.

We are out of points for this year. I would like to book a studio for March. Before I do that I would like to make sure if it doesn't work out that I won't lose the points. Here is where I have confused myself.....

Our use year is February. I would like to book our trip for March. If I do that and I have to cancel before the 31 day window, will my points be lost? If it doesn't work out I would like to be able to bank the points for our 2011 trip. Thanks for your help. I don't want to even chance calling MS until I make sure I can keep my points if it doesn't work out. Thanks!

If you have a February use year with points coming in 2010 and you want to make a reservation for March of 2010 you will be fine. Your February points will only be a month old if you are booking for March of 2010.

As long as you cancel 31 days or more in advance your points will go right back into the account and you will still have plenty of time to bank them.

If I misunderstood the scenerio you described please let me know. Otherwise looks like you are good to call MS tomorrow and make that March reservation. Good luck and hope you get to take that trip so it limits the Disney withdrawl!

I think you want to book a March '10 trip with your Feb. '10 points. Those points are in the UY in which you are going. So, if you cancel before 31 days out those points will be able to be banked into your '11 UY. The fact that you did have something booked but cancelled in the "correct" time does not affect their bankability.

As I understand your situation, your points would be February 2010 points, which are good from Feb 1 2010 until Jan 31, 2011. You could book your March 2010 trip using those points. As long as you cancel your March trip at least 31 days ahead of your trip, the points go back into your Feb 2010 use year and you have until Jan 31 of 2011 to use them. However, if you cancel less than the 31 days, then those points go into Holding Status and the 60-day restriction applies to making reservations. Those holding points cannot be banked into 2011.
