Confused about Dec Use Year

I always get so confused about my Dec Use Year. I have used all of my Dec 2010 points. When are my Dec 2011 points available to me and when do they expire. What time period can those points be used for as well????

They are available now. You could borrow 2011 for a stay between 12/1/10 and 11/30/11, subject to the 11/7 month windows. If you don't borrow, they would be available for a stay 12/1/11 to 11/30/12. If you bank, they would be available for a stay 12/1/12 to 11/30/13.

And your 2011 points expire on 11/30/12 if you don't bank them, and you would have to bank them 4 months out, so I guess that's July 2012 for you.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I very well may be) but she is still in the 2009 UY through the rest of November. Her 2010 UY will start Dec 1 meaning she can't borrow 2011 UY points until Dec 1. I doubt this will make much difference in this case, though, since it is almost Dec. I also have a Dec UY and this just came up for a last minute trip last week where I ran out of 2010 UY points to borrow and had to buy 1 point to complete the reservation.

Not sure how that's related as the OP said they had already used their 2010 points, which I take to mean they have booked a trip that has used all their 2010 points for sometime during the 12/1/10 - 11/30/11 period (or already borrowed them). But I suppose you're right, if they OP wanted to take a trip between now and 11/30/10 (which is only 5 days from now), they could not use 2011 points to do that.

The 2011 points are available now, as DebbieB said, but they are only available for stays starting 12/1/10 or later.

That's not correct. Points usage is based on date of stay, not when you make the reservation. This is a common misconception. She could have borrowed 2011 last January for a 12/1/10 or after stay at her home resort. There's no waiting for the use year to start for the points to "deposit". If you look at your account online, you will see your current use year plus the 3 following. So her account right now would show December 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. Any points you could possibly use are in your account (based on the date of stay).

It's really pretty easy to understand UY. Each December you get a new allotment of points in your account. At the end of November, the prior years points will expire if not used, or you can bank them and turn them into next years points.

In order to make a reservation, you have to have available points in your account for the time period that you intend use them for your room.

I guess it was the "They're avaliable now" that got me all up in a lather because they are not technically available for a stay now (til Dec 1) but they are available to use to make a reservation. Believe me, I have already used most of my 2011 points for upcoming reservations so I know you can use them to book before the new UY begins. DebbieB did a good job explaining it and I did my best to screw it up by arguing something completely different (using the points for a stay now, before the 2009 UY was over) Sorry!!
