I just heard on Fox News that an Orlando hospital is reporting a case of swine flu. According to initial reports, a mexican tourist who has been vacationing at Disney for 2 days came to the hospital with the swine flu symptoms. I just heard it on television and I do not have any links. If anyone hears any updates, please let us know.

Yikes. I know the hype is heavy on drama, but it still scares me a bit nonetheless.

if you go to this website http://www.cdc.gov/ there is a list of confirmed cases in confirmed states..Florida is not on the list!:worship:

I hope they are wrong, but Fox News had it as breaking news about 5 minutes ago. I hope that it turns out to be confirmed as something else. I have not found it anywhere else, but it was on TV about 5 minutes ago.

I would just keep an eye on this. I'm sure they're taking precautions, but I thought it took a few days to get the test back to 100% confirm it is swine flu. Perhaps they should've used the phrase Flu-like illness, until the CDC confirms it.

OH NO!!! well I hope not..I just watched a special on FOX that Orlando International Airport is taking heavier precautions. They are yellow carding people with flu like symptoms and having them wear masks. I hope if it is a case that they can control it. I am heading down around the same time as you also!

Does anyone know the incubation period of this flu? It must be pretty long it he had been in Orlando for at least 2 days before he got sick.

I can't find any confirmation of this. Everything that I find says there are no reports at Disney.

The swine flu is just another strain of flu that travels fast... as long as you're healthy, you'll be fine. There's no reason to panic!

According to my great-aunt who works with the CDC.

And hey, while in Disney I'd rather have swine flu than norovirus!!! :scared1:

Swine Flu Case Confirmed In Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Eyewitness News has learned of Orlando's first confirmed case of swine flu. According to the chief medical officer for Adventist Health System, Loran Hauck, the case was diagnosed Tuesday morning.

"A case was diagnosed here in Orlando today on a tourist from Mexico who came to Disney attractions two days ago to visit," Hauck wrote in an email obtained by Eyewitness News.

No further details have been released, but Eyewitness News is working to learn specifically what days the tourist was at the parks and which park the tourist went to.

Details about the tourist, beyond being from Mexico, have not been released.

Does anyone know the incubation period of this flu? It must be pretty long it he had been in Orlando for at least 2 days before he got sick.

I believe the CDC said incubation is about 3 days. It is relatively quick, so that's why they're telling people who've been home from Cancun, etc. for a week or so that they are probably fine.

Fox News is teasing with that - but last night I was at the Orange Park Mall just outside Jacksonville. I heard that the county health officials were testing here at our mall because of a confirmed case in Orlando. But it took until this morning apparently for it to be released to the media.

Yeah, and we're heading to Disney for the weekend!

So is the CDC going to tell everyone who was at disney to watch for signs of illness?

Considering the number of people this person was in contact with...It's worrisome.

The CDC already told everyone to be sure they are washing their hands frequently, and to watch for fever/cough. If you experience these then go to the doctor and they will prescribe Tamiflu which is VERY successful against this strain of swine flu.

I'm not surprised that they would find someone at WDW that had this. Plenty of people vacation here. I'm sure we'll hear more cases, too. Keep in mind, though, that again this case had a direct link to Mexico.

lets just hope that this does not cause a huge panic where anyone with a stuffy nose freaks out and runs to thier local er.

yeah this is going to make my wife sick if she reads a story about it. :guilty: so my best plan is to keep her from the pc until we head down there in 17 days. :)
