hi all! My understanding was that alcohol can be brought onboard as long as it is in your carry on and unopened. I took this to mean any alcohol. My father in law said he read that you can only bring on beer, wine and champagne, not liquor. So who has the correct and most recent information?? Thanks, we leave Saturday!!!!!

You are correct. It is fine to bring on any beverages, including liquor, as long as it is in your carryon. Perhaps your FIL was reading something in relation to another cruise line?

As long as the beverages are in your carry-on, they don't even check, so who would know what's in the carry-on?! I have never put any beverages in checked baggage, so I am not sure if they would ask you to open and check that. I would always bring beverages in my carry-on only to avoid any problems. Have a magical trip!!

You can carry aboard also from just about any Caribbean port if you run low :cool1:. The biggest exception is Grand Cayman. They have regulations that say they must deliver to the ship, but Disney won't accept deliveries from outside companies. Some of the shops around the port may work a deal where they will carry your purchases for you to the port right where they check your ID.

You can bring on as much to drink as you wish to carry-on.
Last week long cruise, in a rolling suitcase I had a case of water, one already opened bottle of rum, one already opened bottle of scotch, a 12 pack of beer, and some cans of Mt. Dew.

Forgot to add when I rolled the suitcase off the ship, we had new bottles of:
scotch
two of tequila
two of Kalua
four of rum
one of wine (given as an embarkation gift)
plus left over bottles of water and cans Mt. Dew.

Yup, they don't even have to be unopened. We brought on a plastic flask of rum, a plastic flask of vodka, and bought 2 6 packs of beer in Key West.

As you say, Grand Cayman has changed. There's a Tortuga shop right at the security entrance to the pier to catch the tender back to the ship. Good selections. Officially you can purchase and they will walk you and the packed goods to the gate and hand it to you for you to return to the ship. However, when we purchased last December, they just asked if we were returning to the ship and when we said we were, they just handed us the packed box.

Your father in law probably has heard about policies from Carnival, NCL and Royal Caribbean which allow passengers to bring a couple of bottles of wine onboard (sometimes charging a corkage fee upon boarding:sad1:).

Any liquor is fine as long as it is in your carry on!!! Go and enjoy your libations!!!

Not sure about the others, but Royal has NO corkage fee anymore. And I would imagine that the others charge it if you bring it to dinner. DCL charges corkage still if you bring the bottle of wine to dinner. (so bring a filled glass, not the bottle)

Nope, it looks like NCL charges you at the gangway (link)!
When bottles are brought on board and served or consumed in any restaurant, public room area or in their stateroom, a corkage fee will be charged according to bottle sizes noted below. 750 ml Bottle: $15.00 1,500 ml Magnum: $30.00

I read about NCL putting stickers on wine bottles at boarding and charging the fee per sticker applied regardless of where the wine is consumed (or whether it's consumed at all!). Their policy appears to confirm that.

Other posters have indicated bringing your own glass of wine to the MDR is not appropriate. Is there any consensus about this practice?

While adult Guests ages 21 and older may bring alcohol onboard, the following guidelines apply:
  • Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.
  • Guests who arrive in the dining room with a bottle of champagne or wine that has been brought on board will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.
  • Beverages must be packed in your carry-on bag—which must not exceed 22 inches wide, 14 inches high and 9 inches deep in dimension
  • Coolers filled with personal items (e.g. soda, alcohol, chips, candy, etc.) may not be brought on board.
