Confirmed - Ticket Price Increases

I remember when cigarettes were $3 and saying that I'd rather quit than pay $5 a pack. Here I am still smoking and cigs are $10 a pack. Disney is an addiction for me. I understand that the prices are going to go up every year for food, hotel, tickets, and airfare. I just hope I can take my rose colored glasses off to see when it just really isn't worth what I'm paying for a vacation.

Hmmmm...yeah...ok

After reading about their record profits and how much Iger and some of top execs made this year I think there needs to be a Boycott Disney day. It's ridiculous when they own all the top brands in the world and their film and merchandising rights, the parks are all making good profits, the CEO makes Scrooge McDuck look like a pauper to have a ticket price increase when the quality of the parks is steadily dropping.

That sounds like an awesome idea! As long as we don't do it when I'm on vacation...

I don't blame them, they're doing what any good businessman would do in this situation. Without any negative signs or indicators they've continued to increase prices. Does it stink for all of us? Yes. Are we to blame? Ohh yes. We the consumers are the enabler.

I see what you're saying with the boycott, but we barely make a dent. Disney can live without the couple hundred here offset by millions paying 5 dollars more. Something tells me Disney won't care...

Plus, as I alluded to above. I couldn't imagine giving it up. I am an enabler.

It would take a month...

Which month?

I agree we could boycott Disney for a year and it wouldn't hurt them it would strictly be a symbolic protest. I'm an enabler as well. I just moved down to Fl. 2 months ago because we wanted to retire here so we could go to Disney whenever we want but being retired and on a fixed income the day is coming in the not so distant future that they are going to put going out of my reach.Contrary to some reports the economy still sucks for many of us. Disney is a big business and is not a non profit group but every once in awhile it would be nice if they gave a little something back to the little people. Okay putting my soapbox away for the evening. Goodnight all!

While I am sad about them upping the prices, I am not in the bit surprised. While I don't mind paying for a quality product, I do get upset when their is nothing to justify the price increases. Down here in SoCal, DL hasn't had a new ride for years now. Yes there was Star Tours, but really that was just re themed. To give you an idea on how much the annual passes have raised so much over here is that the price for the cheapest AP at DL/DCA is $289. I paid less then that for my Knotts (Cedar Fair) ,Universal Studios and Magic Mountain (Six Flags) and Sea World passes combined !! Let that sink in to your head for a few minutes. A few years ago me and my wife decided to only do passes every other year as we couldn't keep justifying the hikes. While we are both die hard Disney fans, we realized that there is much more to life then the mouse...

Sorry, my info was not correct. The last several ticket price increases were announced on a Saturday and the increase occurred on Sunday - still about a 24 hour advance notice.
I thought last year was no, or possibly just a few hours notice. I seem to remember the various boards on fire that morning complaining of this. Was there actually a day's notice last year?

Didn't they have two price hikes last year?

There were two price hikes within a 12 month period. There was one in June 2013 and then another in February 2014.

You may be correct. Seems like the price change was announced on Disney Parks Blog late Saturday afternoon and the increase went into effect the next day. I did a search but could not locate the "official" announcement. Looks like today is not the day for the increase. Maybe next week.

Kinda surprising...actually...as February 15 is when the "winter travel" season typically picks up and the year gets rolling in the swamp.

To me...spring/summer bookings look light...perhaps that's the reason for pause

I vote for april, june, july, august, november, and december. I promise I won't go those months.

Actually... We've started embracing the "crowded months"
Were going on short notice in April...first time ever

Went July 15-23 last year and loved it. You just have to do the right things.

Spent 4 uncomfortable days bookending a bad Disney cruise last November and I ended up wishing I had stayed home.

The "slower" months have stated to suck for
DVC...

October, November, January, February and even September are really starting to annoy me...

For weather, DVC crowds...or both

We went the last week in July and absolutely had no problems at all. Also went this past January and had very little problems. I agree if you plan right and accordingly you should have a problem.

I sure as heck would raises prices too. As long as attendance increase the crowds are confirming that people are willing to pay these prices. What publicly traded company in their right mind would not increase prices. If you want less busy parks let them double ticket prices now that would be interesting.

However there may be a danger in raising ticket prices to the point where there is a sustained decrease in attendance and it's not easy to get the loyal customers to return to the fold. How many years has Disney been saying that they're doing away with the resort discounts but seems like discounts are still being offered just about every month of the year?

If you're saying permanent brand damage, I'm not sure. Disney has made a lot of mistakes. Everytime this happened guests have forgiven or overlooked their blunders. This fanbase may be one of the most forgiving out there. We'll complain loudly and go back to buying more tickets. As for the more mainstream individuals I think they'll be just as shameless. Disney already has a reputation as being expensive. Guests are willing to forgive them because it's Disney and the love they feel for the brand. You'd have to raise prices to unimaginable highs to really break the goodwill.

So it continues...

Days four through ten in the same vacation are your bargain at Walt Disney World. About eleven dollars per person per day.

Makes the 10 day park hopper never expire tickets we bought 6 years ago look even better. Still have 4 days left on them since we only go to parks one time when we stay in the resorts and visit three parks on one day. They cost about 900 each then but I knew the amortized value would pay for itself

Woah...where on gods green did you get this idea of "bargain basement" pricing?

There were times - mid to late 80's and 98 to 04 - where they provided a really good value...but "bargain" was never in the vocabulary.

Since 2005...when the biggest government - banker - all the way down Ponzi scheme was executed on an international level...the prices have slid down off the cliff, rolled into the river, was flushed into the ocean, down a trench, and eaten whole by a giant squid.

Because they are barrelling toward supreme overpricing...doesn't mean it was a "bargain"
You can't economically reverse engineer it[/QUOT

I'm sorry, but what in the world are you spouting about in this post? The entire "Since 2005" paragraph. WHAT?
