Confirmation of Reservation?

We are leaving for VWL on Sunday. I rented points for this visit from a DVC member. I confirmed about two weeks ago, but, being the chronic worrier that I am, want to re-confirm again right before we leave. Would I still call Member Services or at that point, would the reservation already be transferred to the front desk at WL and that would be the place I call?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you could start with Member Services. Not 100% sure though. Have a great time!

Actually, you should not be calling Member Services since you are not the member. You might call the front desk instead. Or contact the member you rented points from and get them to do a threeway call to Member Services.

Have had no trouble talking with Member Services. They asked if I was the member, I said "no", but they were still more than happy to confirm my reservation.

Hope I haven't done anything wrong!

I just bought in to DVC but I too called MS directly when I rented points. And like the OP I made it plain I was not the member, I was just checking to see if I was "in the system" to ensure I wasn't being ripped off. The CM at MS gladly confirmed my ressie.

To the poster saying only members should call MS--I am not arguing with you, but as a newbie to DVC I am curious why you say that? MS had no problem with it, so I wonder why you say it shouldn't be done? Is there some rule I and the op are unaware of?

The concern with large numbers of non-members calling MS (and in effect double-calling for every reservation) is primarily the use of the 800#. DVC members pay for these phone calls and the cost of personnel through dues. Also, MS time is being diverted from helping members to taking these calls.

To call and just confirm a reservation probably doesn't have that terrific an impact. It would be nice if non-members used the 407# but the cost is probably minimal for a 2-3 minute call. I would hope MS would direct non-members to other Disney information numbers for any additional questions. This would help free MS personnel for member calls.

To check a pending reservation on a weekend, you do have to call the resort directly, MS is closed on Saturday and Sunday. (The resorts only have the information a week or so before your arrival. For future reservations, you have to call when MS is open.)

There have been several threads discussing whether non-members should be allowed to call MS. There are various reasons that members have for not giving non-members the number and if you want the whole scoop you can search for the threads about the member services number.

A word to the wise, the number cannot be posted on this board. That rule is in one of the "Important" messages at the top of the DVC Discussion Forum board.

Aha thanks for explaining. I guess the 800# thingy didn't occur to me, that does make sense now that you mention it. I didn't take advantage of it by the way, I truly only asked about my DVC ressie, took under 2 minutes. Still I see your point that I was in effect "getting something for nothing" and members were paying for that something. So I am sorry if this offended anyone, it really was ignorance.

I was so clueless when I was a renter I thought the MS number was the one I was supposed to call! The person who I rented from gave me the number without my asking, I am sure he didn't realize it was the wrong thing either, as this was the first time he had rented out points. I thought (wrongly, as I now know) that a DVC member ressie was separate from CRO ressies. Don't ask me why I thought that, I just assumed that for some reason, and I think so did the person who sold me the points.

Anyway I appreciate you enlightening me. :D

You were right the first time. You do have to call MS and not CRO. The non-800 for Member Serivces is 407-566-3800 Touch 3. I don't think that CRO can look up a DVC reservation. Once it's close to the date of arrival, it will be in the resort's computer if you call directly to the resort.

I wouldn't worry about doing what your renter told you to do. I think 99.9% of the folks are calling on the 800#. It's really not that different for you to call yourself on the 800# or for the member to do a three-way call using the number.
