Confessions of a reluctant runner, a DL 1/2 & PHM PTR. 7/5 race recaps and final thoughts

Sounds pretty productive to me!!!! Great Job.

I can only feel your pain on the clothes. Nothing is worse than a mystery rash.

I hope you get a good consistent solution so you can cross it off your list.

I know the next 24 days will fly by. :goodvibes

Wow, I'm tired just reading all of that! :faint: Sounds like you are doing great to me........but I'm guessing you have much higher expectations than me. Okay, I KNOW you do........:rolleyes1

That's terrible about the issues you had with the shorts and tank! At least you were able to get something back from the seller, but seriously?

Hahaha, girl I don't know how you do it! I could never go out for a run without eating. My sister in law Jeni does it all the time, I'm like NO WAY! :rotfl2:

I wish it was 58 degrees here. We did have a 45 degree day recently, but I couldn't take advantage with everything going on with Pop. Oh well.

Yay to bib numbers and estimated corral assignments! I was so excited.

I'm still down for La Cava sometime in the evening after the race, so just let me know. :thumbsup2 I'm going to need margaritas I'm not gonna lie.

I'm exhausted...I don't know how you do it. I'm glad Jeff is doing better.

You are having some really nice weather...definitely better than here and definitely much better than the east coast.

Sounds like the weather is picking up and that you're getting in good mileage.

Pity about the tank and shorts. That would annoy me too. Has the new tank arrived?

Sorry neither you nor Ann got picked for volunteer work. :(

Can't wait to see what your costume turns out to be. Hope you have something fabulous planned for your birthday after your run. 3 weeks to go!

I know you can relate and your's is a far far bigger issue. Mine is an annoyance.

I hope you get a good consistent solution so you can cross it off your list.

I know the next 24 days will fly by. :goodvibes

Hope so!

Wow, I'm tired just reading all of that! :faint: Sounds like you are doing great to me........but I'm guessing you have much higher expectations than me. Okay, I KNOW you do........:rolleyes1

Thanks!

That's terrible about the issues you had with the shorts and tank! At least you were able to get something back from the seller, but seriously?

So it was an interesting conversation. It is an Athleta tank. Athleta has a CRAZY return policy. You can return anything, any time, no matter how long you have had it, for any reason. Love it or return it. Returned stuff does find it's way onto the sales racks at times. I have had 2 issues buying sale items online that had clearly been returned. The company handled it well and while it was more than a little "ick" it is a tradeoff for a policy that I've used a lot so I understand and accept the risk esp with sale merch.

The ebay seller was very defensive at first. I wasn't attacking so explained my experience with the brand. They then shared that they buy overrun lots and still had 50 more of this same top. After sending them pictures though they had to agree it was a stain and appeared to be a bleach stain. Is it horrible? No. Does it make it not look new? Yes. Is it super noticeable? no, not at all given the location. Am I far less grossed out after knowing exactly where it came from? You bet. It will get plenty of wear, just more likely at the gym versus running.

The issues are SO annoying. I feel like I am the only one with this as all you can really find on it is a lot of medical info, patient info but literally I feel like I should write a blog on what to wear. It impacts EVERYTHING. Worse of course if you work out at all but given that all undergarments have a component it is unbelievably difficult to deal with.

Hahaha, girl I don't know how you do it! I could never go out for a run without eating. My sister in law Jeni does it all the time, I'm like NO WAY! :rotfl2:

It is less about not eating before a run, then not changing my normal eating habits just to be able to run if that makes sense. I eat 2 meals a day as a general rule. Lunch and Dinner. Always have. It is what works for me. Typically around 12-1 and then around 8. Apparently I practice what is called "selective fasting" which means you don't eat for about 14-18 hours and then consume most of your calories in an 8 hour period. I don't do it for the reasons that some do, it's just how I've always naturally eaten. If I have breakfast, it generally will be brunch. If I stray from this, and eat earlier, I actually eat more all day, more than I need, like it jump starts my metabolism into something really weird.

I tried it, I really did, as everyone said I "should" but GAH it did not work for me. At all!

Still, running at noon after an hour at the gym was totally pushing it for an 8 mile run given I'd had dinner the night before far earlier than usual, and I really should have had a squeezable fruit at 9 just to be safe.

I wish it was 58 degrees here. We did have a 45 degree day recently, but I couldn't take advantage with everything going on with Pop. Oh well.

Hopefully you will get another day in the 40's between now and then. Beign with Popadon definitely trumps that. Upper 40's is perfect running weather! We will cool back down I am sure.

Yay to bib numbers and estimated corral assignments! I was so excited.

Me too. So far everyone seems to be kind of where they should be and that is always a good thing.

I'm still down for La Cava sometime in the evening after the race, so just let me know. :thumbsup2 I'm going to need margaritas I'm not gonna lie.

Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you think about 2pm or is later better for you? I am not sure if some folks will fade early in the evening so maybe afternoon could be good? I figure we should pick a time and then start sending out a bat signal.

I'm exhausted...I don't know how you do it. I'm glad Jeff is doing better.

I will throw myself a party if the man can run again. AND if that run doesn't hurt.

Evan's finals week almost killed me. SO glad that is over.

You are having some really nice weather...definitely better than here and definitely much better than the east coast.

We absolutely scored on the weather. It's grey and drizzly now but still decent temps.

Sounds like the weather is picking up and that you're getting in good mileage.

Oh that weather is a tease. I am sure it will turn and probably just in time for me to have to do the 8 mile and 12 mile runs back to back!

:lmao:

Pity about the tank and shorts. That would annoy me too. Has the new tank arrived?

It did! It arrived yesterday. Fabric wise it is fine, I have another shirt in that line and know it works. Style wise it is cute...a bit different than I would normally pick and I am not 100% that I like it (some shirring and ruching at the bottom/sides). I can't decide if that's flattering or makes things look worse. :lmao: Either way, it will work and at this point, knowing it won't flare up my skin is pretty priceless and I think the color will do well enough.

Sorry neither you nor Ann got picked for volunteer work. :(

Yeah, me too. Hopefully it could still happen but as each day goes by, less likely.

Can't wait to see what your costume turns out to be. Hope you have something fabulous planned for your birthday after your run. 3 weeks to go!

Ah well, the costumes aren't THAT exciting. More like a running outfit that is "inspired" and has a theme.

No birthday plans, will probably be pretty low key. I have a work trip that tues-friday and then longer runs sat and sun...that will probably be as much energy as I have!

I love ebay and I hate it... you can find some good stuff for good prices, but you really have to watch out for it and read the fine print. There's a lot of deception there too. Hopefully the new top you ordered will actually be new since it has tags.

I'm glad that things are looking better for Jeff. Hopefully he'll get the all clear and can do more than just walk and go to the gym soon.

Congrats on the 3rd Disney visit in 2015! :thumbsup2

A 3rd Disney visit in 2015 is exciting news :) Hopefully Jeff is cleared to go!

ADHD testing sounds stressful, hopefully they figure it out soon.

Bummer about having to find a new outfit.

Your trip is coming up soon!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

That picture of the lake is gorgeous!

Ugh, a reason to love and hate ebay. Cheap prices, never quite sure about the quality. Glad they had given you a refund though. :thumbsup2

I'm a huge music listener while on the treadmill. The left earbud had stopped working while I was about 5 minutes into my workout and I stopped completely. It's so hard to get motivated to run without music blaring in my ears.

Gorgeous day is right!

Fun that another family will be at Aulani the same dates as you!

Well, as for our plans for race day, we actually have plans starting early afternoon in DHS, and then we were thinking to hit La Cava around 6pm. However, if that's too late for anyone else, I can rearrange my own plans and go on my own and leave the rest of the group.

I'm contending with 12 people total. Plus my bro is like "I don't want to have margaritas at 2 in the afternoon!" LOL. So I'm like "fine if I have to, I'll have them twice that day!" :rotfl2:

Let me know what anyone else is thinking time wise. I was going to let Caitlin and her family know too, but I'm not sure how she's going to be feeling afterwards either, because she's doing the GSC.

Yeah, who really knows but given that this seller does list a LOT of this brand I do tend to believe they are buying overruns and they did handle it really quickly. They would have taken it back or exchanged it but with the credit, at the end of the day it's a $10 top with one small flaw that I will likely get plenty of wear out of with minimal hassle.

New one had tags! Which it better have since I paid close to full price on it.

I'm glad that things are looking better for Jeff. Hopefully he'll get the all clear and can do more than just walk and go to the gym soon.

I'll know tonight! Hopefully he is cleared for a treadmill test.

Congrats on the 3rd Disney visit in 2015! :thumbsup2

it is!

The whole house hopes so :rotfl2:

ADHD testing sounds stressful, hopefully they figure it out soon.

At the end of the day if we end up with some answers, it's a good thing.

Bummer about having to find a new outfit.

Ah well, it's not like this is a new problem and I can honestly say I am not surprised...which is why I have to test stuff. It's just annoying and expensive.

Your trip is coming up soon!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

It was such a pretty day!

I generally avoid it but was really striking out in traditional channels for the colors I was looking for.

I'm a huge music listener while on the treadmill. The left earbud had stopped working while I was about 5 minutes into my workout and I stopped completely. It's so hard to get motivated to run without music blaring in my ears.

I know! I forgot mine in the car the other day and it was like UGH!

Gorgeous day is right!

Fun that another family will be at Aulani the same dates as you!

Well it isn't for sure but it would be fun, I hope it works out or our paths cross a little.

Well, as for our plans for race day, we actually have plans starting early afternoon in DHS, and then we were thinking to hit La Cava around 6pm. However, if that's too late for anyone else, I can rearrange my own plans and go on my own and leave the rest of the group.

Oh I don't want you to have to leave the group! We would love to see everyone. Right now here are our plans.

10:30 Breakfast at Akerhaus. Which is going to be a bit tight but is doable. I am a bit bummed though as given the likely start times we may not be able to see you at the finish but will be looking as we hoof it back to BWV as we will be walking past part of the course. It was all I could get at 180 days out! Epcot FP's after.

On a side note, not sure of your plans during the 10K but assuming we don't get picked, if you want to watch anyone run by during it, we plan to cheer from our balcony and you are welcome to join us :goodvibes

Ann and I have a 6:30 dinner at B&C. I'm not sure what Mary Ellen and Denny are planning on for dinner. We could meet before our ADR or try for after, I am just not sure how late we will make it given how early we all will be up but then again, neither of us tend to crash all that early so after could maybe work too. We had been thinking earlier simply due to the crash factor but 2 might be pushing it...

I am quite sure my arm can be twisted into the twice in one day plan if that is how it plays out. In fact is is possible that will happen regardless. Let me know what you think. There is one other DISer (who isn't around any more) maybe two that Mary Ellen and I want to meet up with for a Rita so it may be 2 in one day no matter what.

Or I'll drink Ann's if she decides to pass lol.

:goodvibes

Caitlin will probably still be running circles around all of us while we limp around. LOL! Then again, she is half my age (man is that depressing or what) so it's to be expected. :rotfl2:

I know you can relate and your's is a far far bigger issue. Mine is an annoyance.

I hope you get a good consistent solution so you can cross it off your list.

I am glad for the most part mine are not life threatening but just make me a pain to eat with. :rotfl2:

I will say I did come home from DLR with a mystery rash I think was caused by soap. However H2O website does not list the ingredients in GC soap, at least it does not look like the same soap so my conclusion is CA has different ingredients and one of those caused it. At least I hope since I use the H2O soap all the time and never have a problem.

The known is far easier to deal with than the Sherlock Holmes detective work that goes into solving the unknown. :lmao:

As for La Cava...... earlier or later, we have dining at Coral Reef right now early evening so flexible. :upsidedow

Oh I don't want you to have to leave the group! We would love to see everyone. Right now here are our plans.

I'm sure everyone would want to meet you guys too!

We decided that we were going to head back to our hotel after the race, get something to eat and then proceed to do the shower thing. I'm planning on a mini 1 hour siesta max. Hahaha, it's not the running I'm worried about making me tired, it's the waking up at 3am! I want to keep going into the evening, so the siesta will be best for me.

On a side note, not sure of your plans during the 10K but assuming we don't get picked, if you want to watch anyone run by during it, we plan to cheer from our balcony and you are welcome to join us :goodvibes

We actually have a kids race Saturday, which is fun! My nephew Joaquin is running the mile and Brigid, my friend Veronica's (also my SIL Jeni's sister) 6 year old is also running the mile. We don't want them to feel left out when basically every one else has a medal (the 9 and 10 year old are running the 5k with us) and they don't. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Ann and I have a 6:30 dinner at B&C. I'm not sure what Mary Ellen and Denny are planning on for dinner. The rate we're going, La Cava will be filled with DISers. We'll just have to tell everyone else to vacate the stinking place!

the fact that you have to say

"for the most part"

is NOT good and I can only imagine the fear of the unknown

I had a major reaction to a hotel Aveda product once, have just steered clear of the brand ever since.

I hate it when ingredients aren't listed!

Yes, you are eating earlier than we are.

I'm sure everyone would want to meet you guys too!

Oh Fun! For some reason I thought Jeni was doing GSC. We will just cheer for Cait then! You guys are all doing the 5K, right? How fun is that.

Later works better for us for sure, based on what I think everyone else in my group is doing. So maybe 7:30pm if that works for everyone? We can find out everyone else's plans too.

I will check in with a few folks, sounds like it works for Pat, a couple of the ladies aren't on the DIS these days so I'll check directly. Our first FP isn't until 1:40 but then we have a gap so I suspect we will hit the late end of it as there is a good chance of us taking a break after breakfast. I am generally unable to nap so not sure that is in the cards but if the weather is willing, the pool may call our name for a couple of hours. For some reason I CAN nap poolside!

I'm with you, I'm not worried about being worn out from the race. The 3 am or 2:30 am or whatever ungodly hour we get up combined with what at best is probably 4 hours of sleep will be the issue. 7:30 might be a bit tight with a 6:30 ADR but it will just depend on if they are seating on time (which hasn't been my experience). We can try to check in early though.

Hahahah, my arm can be twisted for two also! If I go at 2pm, I know for a fact my Pop and Mom would be coming along, I'm just not sure about the rest of the group.

What time do you guys expect to hit DHS?

Oh Fun! For some reason I thought Jeni was doing GSC. We will just cheer for Cait then! You guys are all doing the 5K, right? How fun is that.

Nope, we all decided we weren't going to do the GSC, because we wanted the break between the 5k and the half. Plus, the littles really want medals, and we figured the kids races on that day would be good. :thumbsup2

Napping poolside sounds awesome!

Yeah, I'm totally not worried about being worn out from the race, I've run comparable distances before, I'm worried about the obnoxious wakeup time and the lake of sleep!

If we get there at 7:30pm we're probably going to hang for a while anyway. :rotfl2: But we can figure it out for sure.

What time do you guys expect to hit DHS?

It will! Or we will all be getting to go cups and taking over the front steps :lmao:

Our first FP isn't until 3:30pm just to be save on the timing side, since we have littles and stuff to contend with too, but I think the general plan is that we're going to get there as soon as we're ready to leave the hotel. For me, I'm aiming to be ready to head out around 1:30pm.

Right?! I was thinking that same thing. Who needs a table!

The littles SHOULD get medals! I really want to take ERic to a rD event some day.

Sounds good. Hopefully the weather will allow for that poolside nap as then a post burger margarita will be pretty much perfect!

We will just need to keep in touch. I'll get you my cell number, I don't do the FB messenger and I don't think Mary Ellen does either. I know Ann does not so texting will end up being best.

we don't need no stinking table!

:lmao: I guess compared to my DD who at the peak of her allergies ( she actually outgrew them ) made many visits to the Urgent care and ER, mine are minor. :rotfl2:

I have only been bad enough to go to Urgent Care once and that was precautionary to get the drugs I needed since I knew it would get worse before it got better and I just didn't have the time for that particular reaction. :rotfl2:

But I will say I have lost whole days at Disney due to either being not careful enough( I won't say careless...;)) or when I had no idea something needed to be added to my list - like pomagranate :)

I had a major reaction to a hotel Aveda product once, have just steered clear of the brand ever since.

I went to the H2O website and they only listed what looked like the WDW soap. I KNOW that soap was different, in a box and stamped with a castle instead of bag and with a Mickey. :)
I actually took a picture of it since it looked different. My gut tells me California has a different formula for their crazy product regulations. I did have that confirmed by one of my staff that in his other career was a logistic manager that dealt with chemical makeups etc. California as with car emissions has specific products that can be used.

Then again I can't use Ivory soap so the more "natural" they go the worse it is for me. :confused3

I know, it almost seems like you can't risk it with counter service half the time :(

That is SO frustrating. I believe your gut.
