I was just reading another thread about AKL concierge and wondered if the opinions people express about their concierge experiences stem from how they feel about being "pampered." We're booked for one night of concierge for our upcoming trip at AKL so we can take the sunrise safari, but I'm a little apprehensive about extending concierge for the remainder of our stay. I like our privacy when on vacation, and I don't know that I'm that comfortable about being waited on. I'm not that interested in "visiting" with the CMs, as so many who love concierge seem to enjoy. I'm not trying to put anyone down, I'm just trying to assess if those who think it's not worth it have that perspective because concierge really doesn't fit their vacation personality in the first place. Any opinions?

When I stayed on the concierge floor at BC, I didn't feel any more "pampered" than I have at any non-concierge trip to Disney. I chatted with the CM's at the concierge desk and they helped my DW and I out with some PS requests, but we didn't "visit" with them. (I guess I don't go enough to establish close relationships with the CMs. :o ) I felt like my privacy was respected just as much on that visit as on any other -- there was no more privacy nor any less.

For us it was nice to do, but not a necessity by any means. If we had the money, we might do it again, but visiting Disney without concierge is just as nice & magical. I suppose my DW and I would be considered "wishy-washy" about concierge. :jester:

I think most guests enjoy the pampering in more subtle ways - it's not as though they're going to be giving you a foot massage in the concierge lounge:crazy:
In a way you have MORE privacy b/c you're not spending valuable vacation time making phone calls and/or heading to the front desk as often - someone is always available to help you with small details... It's sort of like valet parking vs. self...

The Kilimanjaro Lounge at AKL is very relaxing and quiet, in my limited experience, and the refreshments and food offerings are wonderful to have whenever you are ready for a snack~ much nicer than going down to Mara...
Being able to switch PS at the last minute, book a massage on a whim or an Illuminations cruise, having great seats in the nicest restaurants, having a gift basket for my daughter waiting in the room - these are extra special perks of staying on the concierge level.
As to the Concierge veterans who enjoy visiting with the CMs in the Lounge - how can you argue with that? They must be friendly, outgoing people who enjoy getting to know people WHEREVER they go... If that's not your style, you certainly can still reap the benefits of concierge without doing so... They seem to be trained to be courteous but not "all over" the guests.
I'll bet once you get there, you'll want to extend your stay in concierge - the bells and whistles are very subtle but wonderful;)

Thanks everyone. I'm really trying to get a feel for whether or not we'd enjoy concierge and this is just the kind of information I was looking for.

We also did AKL concierge a few years back. The CMs did not go out of their way to wait on us or even to help us. They sat at their desk and if you needed something you went to them.

Hope this eases your fears.

We have a first-time concierge booked for AKL in November. Was also wondering what to expect, and how we will like it. Mainly booked to be able to go on the Safari, and the convenience of something for breakfast sounds nice. Other than that, I don't know if there is any other advantages for us. Pretty sure the room will be smaller than the 1BR we have been using thru DVC for the last few years. But still looking forward to going!

We stayed at the Yacht Club concierge and LOVED it. The CM were great, and really tried to help us with any they could - and they did . . . recipes, locating souvenir items, changing reservations around, etc. We loved the lounge and particularly the twilight treasures. We would go and drink some wine with some hors d'oeuvres, and also the evening cordials and desserts. We're a young couple though, and I don't think that we'll go concierge when we have a family to bring. I don't think that we'd be able to enjoy all of the luxeries (i.e. alcohol, etc.).

We did AKL last Nov and loved it. As stated before the lounge is nice and relaxing. Also the food was great. You will love it.
