concierge deck on Dream

from the video posted the other day, both areas look very small...not sure how much kids would want to be in either of them....
they seem tiny in comparison to the kid clubs...

unfortunately, concierge level deposits are non-refundable, so i guess i'm stuck at this point...
i really did think it would be child-free....or rather, it didn't cross my mind.....
but i guess i was thinking of a more exclusive, quiet environment...
well....my reservation is not until 2012.....maybe by then they'll change the policy... :)
or i could move the reservation to the middle of the school year...
i guess it's time for me to consider the cruise lines that cater to ornery old people like me....seven seas?....maybe...

for me I love the adult only areas on Disney and there are lots of them - especially Quiet cove and I am one of the first to report children in the pool and hot tub - and I think the beach for adults at Castaway is wonderful (even have cabana's to rent there too) so I think you can have the best of both worlds on Disney but we are paying a higher price for concierge - all of us - kids included - so I think that area should be for everyone. I am also glad quiet cove is right near the concierge rooms - it will be nice to retreat to for adult time. But for us we will be going back to mostly Magic cruises as we like the longer cruises and we are able to do those because we homeschool - the TA's this year had no more than 200-300 kids from 0-18 - we are only doing the dream b2b as a way to see the new ship and for my daughter's 16th birthday.

People have posted that they will work with you.

That far away they most likely will.

Call and ask. It doesn't hurt or cost anything.

where are you from in michigan?
i'm originally from there (and once a michigander, always a michigander :goodvibes )

i'm booked on the podcast cruise, so i guess i'll stick with it (PCC 3.0)...

I once had someone tell me to do a search of my favorite all time restaurant and see all the negitive reviews that were there. It is kind of an eye opener really. Everyone has an opinion, if you are a Disney kind of person, and have that enjoy life no matter what kind of attitude.... you will think every added bonus is just that, an added bonus. But if you are one of those that always end up with all the bad things in life happening, chances are... you'll continue to get just what you have been getting.

the opinion at that link is of an expert at cruisecritic.com..

as you say, one man's junk is another man's treasure, but based on what's said, it makes sense that DCL could have done a lot better on the concierge and adult pool areas than what they did...

i was so thrilled that they finally added a dedicated concierge area, but i'm guessing my opinion will probably match that of cruisecritic...

it's not a question of , oh let's be happy about whatever we get...
we're paying good money and expect value for that money...
in general, DCL delivers value for money....but they're not perfect...
criticism is not a bad thing....perhaps as a result of the criticism they'll make changes to the fantasy while it's being built....

I think that review seems fair but we have to judge for ourselves. I didn't book concierge for the sundeck anyway, thats for sure.

Haven't people posted that the on the other ships everyone has to cut through the adult pool with their kids?

So maybe the Dream is improved over that?

Personally, I don't give a huge amount of power to the "expert's" opinions.

They can be informative, but are also subjective -- not to mention, are limited to the scope of one visit, usually.

That same reviewer posted that his RCCL cruise a few years back was nothing but sexy legs contests, loud music & drunks around the pool. So my sister cancelled her res. and stayed home, while the rest of us went and had a wonderful time! While there were most likely such things going on for those who were interested, we could not have cared less - we took advantage of all the other fun things to do.

I plan to use the concierge services & judge for myself. Anyone know the hours that the deck is open?

I totally agree. I take all reviews, negative and positive with a grain of salt. I like to form my own opinion. We are all different, we have different reasons for booking concierge. What might be a miss for one person may be a hit for another. I will be sailing concierge in a few days and I will decide then, once I experience it whether it's a hit or a miss for my family.

i was shocked by the video posted of the concierge lounge - the review merely confirmed my initial impressions..

based on that video, if you like the size of the yacht club concierge lounge, you'll love the size of the lounge on the Dream...

of course, i didn't reserve a concierge stateroom for the lounge or the sun deck, since after all, i've always sailed concierge on DCL and they've never had those things up to now..

however, now they do....and i was hoping they would do it right...
that video indicates to me that they didn't....
this seems to be consistent with their treatment of concierge in the WDW resorts...
not what one would expect for the amount of money they charge..
again, a question of value for money...

as an aside, i think this is my 10,000 post...woo hoo

We stay concierge on the ships as well and were very shocked at the difference between concierge at AKL compared to concierge on the ships. I chalked it up to the lounge as it made it "self serve". I am a little worried that some of the concierge "magic" will be more along the lines of the resorts now. So I am anxiously waiting to hear what you all have to say when you go. I have to wait FOREVER it seems for my trip to arrive.

I think it will be great when we hear from people who have stayed for the cruise rather then walked through and took pics!

Excellent point ... I'm thinking of those maiden voyagers while we have the most snow in January, EVER recorded :(

sailing with my 4 year old in Dec. She will be in the lounge and on the sun deck- just a fyi. Kids are going to be there.
