concierge deck on Dream

I noticed a few posts about splitting the family between categories, yet still traveling together & sharing 'perks' etc. Most feel that's bending the rules too much.

The thing that I'm curious about is why DCL has allowed such a big split when sailing this way with a family...spread out from cat. 3 to 9, in one case...? :confused3

On all other cruise lines, in my experience, you can only separate the parents from the minors if they sail NEXT DOOR to each other. Yes, there is at least one adult assigned to each room, and yes, you can switch the sleeping arrangements once on board, even get extra keys...but this was all dependent on the rooms being right next door to each other -- not decks apart!

I think the questions about concierge services being available to family members in other rooms would be a moot point if DCL followed the same guidelines as the other cruise lines. No wonder there is confusion about rules "on paper" being changeable in action, that's exactly what DCL has demonstrated...

just sayin'.... :cool1:

I think DCL does not let you put minors by themselves in a stateroom. you have to book one adult in each cabin unless something has changed.

An adult over 21 has to be BOOKED there but he doesn't have to SLEEP there.

I'm not sure I'd like my kids on a different floor. That would have to be the case for a concierge/non-concierge split.

Are there only stairs up to the sundeck? Is it not handicap accessible????

while there are stairs that go up from the lounge, you can also take the elevator outside the c. lounge up to deck 13 and enter through the door there - no steps that way.

As for the orginal poster's question, when I toured the Dream I asked several questions because we are a group of 9 traveling, in 2 rooms, both concierge - this will be my daughter's 16th birthday and we splurged and got a concierge room. Bottom line - if I want to have a celebration for my daughter with just the 9 of us - we can do something in the public space if we want BUT if anyone (say my daughter wants to invite a new friend (that is not in concierge) comes - then we could only have a get together in our room. Not a problem - this is actually why we got a 1 bedroom so we had living room space.

Another thing that I was told that if we requested anything that was not on the room service menu or extra quanties (not sure what that meant exactly - like what is "extra") we would be charged for it. She was saying for instance if we wanted choc. covered strawberries, we would have to pay for this. I have never stayed in concierge before so do not know how "parties" have worked. I know I am being cheap - we are going to just get things that are already included - too much food to have to pay for something for us - unless it is something really really special. She loves tinkerbell so I am going to try to figure out what to do with that!

Can anyone tell me if kids ages 5 & 8 are allowed in the concierge lounge and sun deck? Thinking of going the concierge route on the Fantasy but curious with the kids if they can join us when not in the kids clubs. Thanks in advance for the help.

the concierge lounge and sun deck open to all concierge guests, not just adults

the concierge lounge and sun deck open to all concierge guests, not just adults

this is where disney differs from many other companies...
concierge lounges often have an age limit...
something that i didn't think about when i made the reservation...

but hopefully, all the kids will be off in the kids clubs and not hanging around the concierge lounge....

Usually the concierge team makes it a point of sitting down and meeting with you in your room shortly after you arrive on board. In my past cruises they have recongized my family during the rest of the cruise. They know how many people are in each room, and who is part of the group. Hopefully they will be able to recognize who is not conceirge - room key or not.

Concerige should also explain the rules to each conceirge guest when they meet them.

^Ditto^

Why would anyone think that they can have anyone else who is not Concierge level join them on the C. deck? People who paid for concierge paid for the use of that deck and the possibility of having a deck chair. Where does this "since I paid for one concierge room I can have all my friends/family from other decks use the concierge area" entitlement attitude come from?
I am that guy who has DCL remove kids from the Quiet Cove when the parents don't do it when I ask them nicely. I will also be that guy at the concierge level. I am not being a jerk, I am just doing what others wish they could do.
Rules are made for a reason.

On deck 5 (the open deck).

All verandahs are designated as smoking. I just hope that with a room near the front of the ship, the smoke goes towards the aft while we are moving......

LOL

There are other open decks.

OK, I was talking about the lower decks. On the Wonder and Magic you could only smoke on the Starboard side of deck 4 from 6P to 6A.

I think its the equivalent of deck 5 on the Dream. I assume since you could smoke on decks 9 and 10 on the other ships then you can on 11 and 12 on the new ships.

Sounds like smoking will be allowed on the starboard side of the deck?

The c. sundeck is in the middle of the deck. Think about how the pools are on the Magic/Wonder - it is as wide as the stack with glass all around it - so my thinking is smoking on the outside but not the inside.

I am glad that disney does not have an age limit on this as it would make it harder for parents. We are traveling in a group of 9 and hope to utilize some outdoor space in the C. lounge and sundeck as a way to visit together - adults and children and also a way for the kids who are not in the same age clubs to be able to have a space too that they can be in if the pool areas are too full. But I will say that kids should behave themselves and not be overly loud or causing problems in the area either.

from the video posted the other day, both areas look very small...not sure how much kids would want to be in either of them....
they seem tiny in comparison to the kid clubs...

unfortunately, concierge level deposits are non-refundable, so i guess i'm stuck at this point...
i really did think it would be child-free....or rather, it didn't cross my mind.....
but i guess i was thinking of a more exclusive, quiet environment...
well....my reservation is not until 2012.....maybe by then they'll change the policy... :)
or i could move the reservation to the middle of the school year...
i guess it's time for me to consider the cruise lines that cater to ornery old people like me....seven seas?....maybe...

I think you should definitely consider other cruise lines.
