Concierge/Club Level Information - Part III (October 2010)

We just got back from our very first CL stay! We stayed at the Beach Club for 3 nights last week. Overall, we had a fantastic experience! Though we ended up having to check in at the regular lobby front desk because we arrived during the upstairs shift change, the CM who checked us in, Kenny, was fabulous and told us that we had been upgraded to a lagoon view with a large balcony. We had been ready for a lovely standard view of a roof, so being able to look out at Stormalong Bay from our room every day was a real treat!

We made the most of the CL lounge, having breakfast there every day. I miss the coffee machine and the delicious lattes I made for myself everyday! At breakfast we had fresh fruit, 4 types of cereal, bagels, oatmeal and rotating pastries (apple danish, raspberry danish, cranberry bread, choc chip mini muffins, cinnamon buns). All of the baked goods were yummy. The homemade chips and red pepper dip in the afternoon were amazing!

We also enjoyed the evening appetizers. A cold lobster salad we had on Thursday was particularly yummy as was a raspberry and brie pastry puff we had on Tuesday. The desserts were just okay and we only made it back for those on 2 of our 3 nights.

The staff in the lounge was very sweet and very helpful. We especially liked Tina, an international student there from England. She was so perky and sweet. Jacob at the CL desk was very helpful in getting us in touch with the golf courses when we were having trouble getting confirmation of a golf lesson.

My biggest complaint would be the size of the lounge. It was just very small and often felt overcrowded, especially in the mornings.

We got a fantastic AP rate on the room ($306 plus taxes and fees) and felt it was worth the cost, but I doubt that we would ever pay full price for the CL. Those gold keys did spoil us a bit though, so it will be hard to return to regular resort stays! :rotfl:

I have just read this on a review:

"The 4th floor and the monorail station is extremely busy and overcrowded by non resort guests and people dining at chef mickeys. staying in the tower is the equivalent of staying in the Atlanta Airport. When you have strollers, trying to get in the line for the monorail is impossible as the elevator drops you mid way through a line that is back to the escalators, so you are forced to cut in line as the staff is of no help. We got stressed every time we had to use the monorail.

Is this something I should be worried about?

We stay there with a double stroller... and have never had a problem with the monorail. You simply get off the elevator and go to the end of the line that is there. It moves quickly and normally the monorails have plenty of room for everyone. This would definitely not be a complaint that was even on my radar. (My bigger complaint was how long it took to get to MK cause of all the stops... but then we decided to walk instead and it was perfect! Monorail out, walk in when it comes to MK)

The fourth flour is busy.... but you aren't staying on the fourth flour. It's not like there are rooms next to it that you can even chance being stuck in it. CL rooms are higher up too so there shouldn't be any noise feed back at all.

Depending on the time of year or time of day the Monorail station at the Contemporary can become very busy and part of the reason is because of those guests who just had dinner at the California Grill, Chef Mickey's or The Wave and are using it to get back to the TTC, another Monorail Resort or the Magic Kingdom and getting on a WDW bus to their resort. Sometimes when that has happened to me I had to wait for 2 or 3 Resort Monorail's until I finally got on. Now the worst thing I ever saw was around Christmas in 2009 when the line up just to get on the esclator got so jammed up with people that it wasn't working and others were screaming for a Monorail Cast Member, however none of them heard anyone. So someone else at the the entrance pressed the emergency stop button.

Well, I can walk to MK and take a taxi to other places if things get a little out of hand but I suppose the elevator will still be of some issue to get me to the first floor to walk or ride....eeek

If anyone's interested, I have a trip report from the POLY in my signature below, also lots of pics from the POLY club level and cabanas & info on Disney on my blog.. Enjoy!:wizard: Any questions let me know, please.:thumbsup2

This was our experience & it was so frustrating.:headache: We have decided to not stay at CR again due to the frustration of trying to get around that hotel w/a stroller. We ended up taking a taxi to Epcot b/c we had no chance of getting on the monorail & we were going to miss our ADR.
If you have a stroller, then honestly I would suggest you rethink your resort. Just my honest opinion... I had wished I had gotten a heads up about it b4 our trip.:sad2:
PM me if you have any other questions about our stay.

SOOO excited for you.....a little Jealous, but very excited!!!!! jealous, but really more excited, jealous LOL. hahahahha:cool1:

I admit, we only stayed at CR once our stroller days were over for these very reasons. It never seemed as bad at the GF, however.

Just back fom a week at the Boardwalk's Garden Suites!

The Concierge CM's are first rate and they are quick to offer help and assistance (of course, they devote too many of their important hours cleaning up after guests who are too lazy to carry their used plates, glasses and utensils to a nearby clean-up table). :confused3

Just a few days ago, new food service trays debuted. Very nice, indeed. And the offerings (especially at the "Wine and Cheeze" time) were quite good, although not quite up to the level of the GF's food lineup. However, the cheap wines need to be replaced by something a bit better. On the other hand, the beer selections were very good.

New free wireless internet service didn't work for us and the boilers went out early Saturday morning: no hot water for anything!

Still, the overall experience, the proximity to EPCOT and the superb CMs make Boardwalk's Garden Suites an ideal destination.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Thanks for posting you're review and I agree about some of those lazy guests who can't put their dirty plates and etc on that table, because they always walk past it when leaving the lounge. So why can't they bother to put them there, however that's for another thread.

Anyway I was wondering do you happen to remember what some of the new food offerings were between 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM?

The following are "new" to us (as compared to what was offered in October 2010):

pork on a stick
chicken on a stick
fried vegetable rolls (similar to egg rolls)
Beef Wellington pastries
assorted salads (Garbanzo, artichoke & red bean, etc.)

Of course, our favorite: the small peanut butter and rasberry preserve cake roll ups with powdered sugar! These are so good, so addictive...that they should require a photo ID to acquire them! :worship:

All the best. :thumbsup2

Thank you and of the items you listed the only new ones that I can see is Beef Wellington Pastries and Pork on a stick. The other items you mentioned I remember seeing in August/September 2011.

This has been our problem! We stayed CL at the Poly a decade ago because (I think, I was not in on the decision-making process at the time) with our dates and party size (5) a CL room was all that was available. We liked it so much, we've stayed CL every subsequent visit!

Hi there!!

I'm usually a pretty easy going, go with the flow, kinda gal, and have stayed CL many times over the years, at BC, CR, Poly, YC, and GF. I am heading to WL club level for the first time Wednesday!!

My question is: Is it appropriate to request certain items be stocked in the lounge? I'd never even dreamt of this, but a friend of mine only drinks MGD beer. He told me when he stays Poly CL, he emails, and requests that beer be stocked and it is??? Another friend drinks Dr. Pepper, and requested that, and that request was met as well.. I'd just like to know if this is common, or slightly overbearing? Thanks so much for any, and all feedback on this. I really appreciate it!! :)
