Anyone know how I can hook up my laptop to my T.V. to view it through the TV instead of laptop screen? I thought I read there was a device I can buy that will let me do this. They are both new, the tv's 23" flat panel.
Is this something I can do myself?

does your laptop have A/V ports or an S-Video port? If so you can just hook them directly up with the appropriate cord (A/V or S-Video)

It looks like the laptop has both ports in the back.

you need an s-video cable. If your TV has an s-video plug then you just need an s-video to s-video cable. If the TV only has RCA (yellow, red, white) plugs, then you need an s-video to rca cable.

You can get those at Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc.

Is the S video cable a round one with all the little holes in the middle?
Yes, I see it does say S Video in the back, there is also one in back of the laptop. So I just plug them both in together and it will show up on the TV?
The TV also has the RCA ports open, which do you think is better to use?

Thanks so much for your help!!

Once you plug the mentioned cables into both the TV and LAPTOP you have to probably hit the TV/VIDEO button on your TV to switch to a diff source other than cable TV.....

Check the front of your TV or remote...It probably says SOURCE, or TV/VIDEO

Also, on your laptop, you should have a button to press to move the image from the laptop's screen to the tv.

Look at your Function keys. You should have an Fn button too. Press the Fn + whatever key it is to move it and it'll send the signal from your laptop to your tv.

You will also need a Y-Adapter Audio Cable to run from the speaker port to the RCA ports for the sound to come from the TV. The S-Video will only run the picture for you.

ok, I'm going to Radio Shack now to get an S-Video - S-Video cord and a long Y . I'm hoping I can do this!

I'm pressing the FN key, but nothing happens? I've got the cables hooked up and have tried all the sources, but I'm not sure what else to push with the FN button?

What brand laptop do you have? Mine is not set up with a Function key to switch screens. I have to actually get into the video functions and change the display option.

Everything is working except for the sound?
