computer help please

My computer is acting screwy again!! I always had like a hand when I click on something.....now it is just the arrow and it kinda disappears when I go to where I want to click.....but it still works

Anybody know what the problem could be??? Win98

Have you tried shutting the computer down and restarting it? Sometimes that takes care of lots of problems.

Also, is the problem only in Internet Explorer or in another specific program or is it all the time - even on the desktop?

well, another problem....I know I need a new processor...but I have a real HARD time restarting my computer....it literally takes about a 1/2 hour and sometimes it will only come up in safe mode. When it restarts it tells me some weird stuff about some AVG6 fish files or something and I click through it and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

The clicking hand thingy is even not working on my emails. The desktop, it is always just the arrow and that seems fine.

When on a site....you kinda have to guess where your clicking at........

Well, AVG6 is anti-virus software, so if your machine is having problems with that you could have a much bigger problem. It's entirely possible that with what you are describing that you have had a trojan or virus take over your machine. A lot of newer viruses will delete and disable portions of antivirus software so you may have had that happen.

If I were you, I would consider a complete clean and re-install of your operating system. Just make sure you backup your files beforehand. (and scan them with a virus checker before you put them back onto your system.

Even if it isn't a virus, it sounds like the OS had become unstable - I would reinstall before it has a chance to completely stop working for you.

I really don't know how to do that....a system restore. I don't have a windows cd or anything.

I don't have that AVG virus thing anymore.....I do have nortons now though and it (the virus program) works just fine.

Do you have the original disks that came with your PC??

in also......or does it have a cord to the mouse.......I killed my first mouse Matilda.....poor mouse......broke the wires.......check other stuff too

I know this seems like a dire suggestion - if you think your processor is going (how do you know that?) then why not just buy a new PC? You can get some really good deals on some of the lower end new machines out there, and it'd prolly work a lot better than that one does....
