Compromise is a Disney word: Taking one for the team over Thanksgiving 2016* August PTR link! 5/28

I'm glad Ricky's knee is healing well! That had to be a scary thing for him, and considering all the moving and shaking of your WDW trip to make sure he was there for basketball practices and everything, and then to get hurt :sad2: I would have been so stressed out!!

He also gets about a gazillion gold stars for his sweet PP moment. For me, Winnie the Pooh was a big deal for my grandmother and I when I was little. In 2014 on our first family trip, I started crying all over WtP at our Crystal Palace breakfast. Like, ugly crying. I struggled to get myself together. It was horrifying. The poor friend of Pooh was probably like, WTH is wrong with this insane person?? So I get the specialness of Peter Pan's Flight for you  I love the stand by line pictures that I've seen, but have never got to experience it in person...so for the upcoming trip, that's what I plan to do first after my BOG breakfast!

I have never done the flying carpets! The line is usually huge by the time we get over there, and in December I can't remember why we didn't ride it, because I had planned to?? At this point I want to ride just to say I have. I think I might feel weird in May doing that one by myself, though. Dumbo is on the list...not sure why flying in an elephant is ok alone but I'm scared of a solitary carpet ride, LOL!!

I didn't watch The View's actual shows, but I did watch all the various clips from Pandora. I had planned to watch the shows from AK, but - and here's where my moron is showing - I kind of thought they were recording NOW and the shows would air later. I don't know how the view works, I've never watched before. So I felt really dumb about missing it.

My flight out in May is at 6:30, which is the latest flight I've ever had leaving WDW. I want to go to Animal Kingdom that morning after dropping my bag at RAC and maybe do the Caring for Giants tour. I have also toyed with the idea of doing all four parks that day, but I don't want to get all hot and gross before getting on the plane, so I'll probably just stick to AK.

Oh, and I can't believe the line at Gaston's! That's crazy!

I hope not but I fear they will and it'll suck.
Ugh! I didn't even think about them putting in a tiered system... Is this the first BIG attraction that they have rolled out since Fastness plus? OR at least multiple attractions? I hate to think that you would have to choose from the Safari and Pandora rides? Seems like it would be interesting to see what they choose as Tier 1 vs Tier 2. Seems like there aren't a lot of Tier 2 rides there...

Now they're saying up to 20" for us Tues. into Wed :scared1: The boys will use up possibly their last 2 snow days. Yesterday I met my friends from college at Palisades Mall in Nyack (NY). They're all originally from NJ since I went to William Paterson and 2 are still in Jersey. One is near Jackson and got quite a bit Friday and she said they're saying close to 20" for her this week, too!
Ugh, one minute it is 20" the next it's 6"... We are just south west of Jackson and got nothing! It's so strange... At this point, it will be what it is. I got our groceries for the week, so we are ready!

That party took about 15 minutes alone! Normally I'm nice :rolleyes1 but I was ready to yell "***" because I was quickly approaching hangry status!
So, hard to stay patient when things take that long. Or when you know you could have picked a different row... Being Hangry never good!

Finally, Ricky's knee is heeling really, really well.

Oh no! I must have missed this while catching up. What happened!?

Very pretty view!

We originally thought this was the path out the "secret door" to Epcot but Steve followed it early one morning and it lead to garbage dumpsters lol!

:rotfl2:

When we got off I asked him why he liked it so much and he said "I don't, but I know how much it means to you."

Awwwww

Such a sweet picture

I've really enjoyed catching up on your report. So glad to hear Ricky is healing well! I loved your pic of Chris with the lemon half. It sounds like you had some really sweet times with your boys. I hope mine are that sweet when they get to that age!

I missed the View last week too, but I think it would have been too painful for me to watch lol. Going from planning to be in the parks a couple of weeks after Pandora's opening to missing it by a year is rough. However, I'm getting really excited about DL, so I don't feel too sorry for myself. ;)

Your park pics are wonderful, including your magic carpet pics! I never want to go on that ride, but always end I enjoying the view when I'm dragged on it.

Ah...the final park day. Such a happy and sad time, but definitely easier when you know you will be back!

I also missed the information about Ricky's knee but sounds like it will all be just fine soon which is GREAT!

I have been purposely AVOIDING any of the updates about Pandora, especially the news coverage and the inside looks. I really want to be surprised by what is there. I've seen some small tidbits of information, mostly about ride heights and what will be open...but the rest I'm trying not to learn about until I get there. Since it will be opening while we are there, I can only imagine the madness. I only hope that once Memorial Day is over, maybe a small break can be had and we can attempt it. We plan to try to watch the Avatar movie close to our vacation date just to refresh our memories about some of the stuff that we could see there.

I typically don't like to watch previews, but I did see all the clips via youtube (we watched on Friday night). I am SO SO excited!! The new rides look amazing, Aria is really excited too (and she'll be tall enough for the banshee ride too). Excited to check out the new bar lol!

Looks like it was a really productive morning with a nice mid-morning brunch! how fun. The carpets are pretty silly but Aria loves them lol! How sweet on peter pan!

Finally getting over to your trip report, though you know I've been reading the dining one! :)

We'd had great luck with Wishes from our WL balcony in August

Do you remember what room number you guys had at WL? Trying to figure out what to request for our September trip.

Hi Ariane! We are bracing for snow in Chicago too. BOO!!! But, its been a mild winter, so I can't really complain.
Right now they're saying 18-24 inches, starting after midnight tonight and even continuing into early morning hours Wed! I'm positive we'll get an email tonight that school is closed tomorrow, highly doubt they'll wait to call it until the morning. It's been a mild winter here too, other than the snowstorm that "forced" me to add a day to my Universal trip in Feb, this is really the only other storm we've gotten/are getting.

Your trip sounds so nice, and I bet you can't wait for the next 2 weeks to go by...9 days here, and I will be sipping cocktails at the Hangar Bar. WOO! HOO!
Down to 12 days now :cheer2: Getting very excited as I'm sure you are!

I have really enjoyed your trip report
:thanks: I'm so glad you followed along!

so nice about your son riding PP because he knows how much it means to you, so sweet! Our teenagers can surprise for sure!
They most certainly can :) And it always seems to come when we think they don't care about anyone but themselves!

Jason watched it and was impressed too. Of course I tried to hold back my bitterness as he watched it from home while I was at work :P I'm sure you can imagine how successful I was in that endeavor.
I would guess nobody would have wanted to be Jason that day :P But seriously it's pretty impressive, and that's coming from someone who wasn't the least bit excited at all when they announced the new land would be Pandora. Bummed we're missing the opening by a few days but if they don't do soft openings while we're there, it's more of an excuse to go back in Aug. :thumbsup2

Of course I'm hoping for some of the snow on Tuesday, because I need a day off :-)
So are you supposed to get any?? Up to 18-24" for us as of now. No need to set my alarm tonight, I can have some :drinking1 with Steve's sausage and peppers he's making for dinner!

Think the balcony is what I"m most upset about losing with the moderates. Jason and I love to sit outside and drink wine after the kiddo has gone to bed. This looks like the perfect wine sipping, illuminations watching, view.
I'll be something to get used to for sure, but that gift card you really can't beat. I loved being out there the first few nights while Chris was stretched out on the Murphy bed with his Ipod. However, I am trying to convince Steve we should try CBR at least for a couple days in Aug just for the kick back.

How long was the wait for you all? We've only ever done FP too and I'd love to see the queue. Just don't want to wait 70 minutes to see it :-)
Both times we've gone through the new queue the wait has been minimal; first time was in Aug. and we waited maybe 10 minutes? This time it was maybe 15. You have to go at RD or at least shortly after to get the short waits. I don't think there's any other time of day at any time of year to hit that line below 40 other than at park opening.

I watched it this weekend! The Na'vi River Ride looks amazing. I'm guessing with my motion sickness I won't be a fan of the other one so I'm most looking forward to that.
I have motion sickness too so I'm unsure about the other ride. I can do new Soarin', couldn't do old, and can't do Forbidden Journey which is what I'm hearing this being compared to so I'm more excited about the Na'vi River too

That's so sweet of him. I've also always wanted to see the queue, but we haven't been when the line was short enough yet.
Go at RD! You have enough trips planned to work that in somewhere lol!

I'm glad Ricky's knee is healing well! That had to be a scary thing for him, and considering all the moving and shaking of your WDW trip to make sure he was there for basketball practices and everything, and then to get hurt :sad2: I would have been so stressed out!!
It was VERY scary. And for the last couple weeks he's been afraid to attempt anything resembling playing basketball other than shooting free throws because he's so afraid of re-injuring it. A knee injury is bad overall but of basketball........so when his PT told him last week that he'll be absolutely fine and should start slowly playing but wait another couple weeks to go back to his actual games, he was completely relieved and so were we!!

So I get the specialness of Peter Pan's Flight for you
Aw, it's so special to have those memories with grandparents which is why I'm so glad my boys are close with my mom. They weren't lucky enough to know either of their grandfathers but having had such a close relationship with my grandmother means so much to me. Glad you experienced that with your grandmother, also :)

I love the stand by line pictures that I've seen, but have never got to experience it in person...so for the upcoming trip, that's what I plan to do first after my BOG breakfast!
Great idea! The queue is one of my favorites.

I'm not sure either but I'm trying to come up with a reason for you :rotfl: I hardly ever see a line at Aladdin, but later that day it as crazy as was pretty much every line in the park :scared1:

I had planned to watch the shows from AK, but - and here's where my moron is showing - I kind of thought they were recording NOW and the shows would air later. I don't know how the view works, I've never watched before. So I felt really dumb about missing it.
I haven't watched the View since I think their first year on the air, but I since I kept seeing the advertisements I knew to watch. It's ok, I forgive your "oops"!

Caring for Giants looks so cute! As far as being hot and gross.........the first time we did a park on departure day was in May and that day was close to 90. We were in MK until about 3:30 and by the time we left, well, not pretty or fragrant. I did feel a bit uncomfortable on the plane being sweaty but it was worth it for the "extra" day in the parks. I like the idea of doing all 4 that day too!

Ugh! I didn't even think about them putting in a tiered system... Is this the first BIG attraction that they have rolled out since Fastness plus?
Yes, I think it's the only attraction that's opened since FP+ other than RoL and of course, the Jungle Book show (cough cough). I have heard absolutely nothing definite about AK going to tiers BUT, it seems to be the general consensus among those that seem to be in the know most of the time :(

At this point, it will be what it is. I got our groceries for the week, so we are ready!
Me too! At about 8pm tonight they cancelled schools for us which didn't surprise me, especially since around 5 they called a state of emergency the next town over. As long as we don't lose power I'm cool with it!

Oh no! I must have missed this while catching up. What happened!?
Ugh, it sucked. He plays basketball for school as well as on 2 other teams during the winter. And I must say, he's extremely good :D In the 3rd to last school game on Feb. 4th he partially dislocated his knee and so he was out of all 3 teams for the rest of the season. He crawled off the court which was very scary for him and me! I knee injury for anyone is bad and for a basketball player is serious. So he's been out of PE since then, he can go back tomorrow except there's no school since we'll be buried in snow lol, and he's doing PT. Diagnosis is excellent and while he did have to give up his one spring AAU travel team he'll be able to play on his other one which will start in a few weeks :thumbsup2

Such a sweet picture
:thanks:

So glad to hear Ricky is healing well!
Thank you! It's a huge relief.

It sounds like you had some really sweet times with your boys. I hope mine are that sweet when they get to that age!
Yours are so sweet already I'm sure they'll be that way as pre-teens and teens!

I missed the View last week too, but I think it would have been too painful for me to watch lol. Going from planning to be in the parks a couple of weeks after Pandora's opening to missing it by a year is rough. However, I'm getting really excited about DL, so I don't feel too sorry for myself. ;)
I sympathize  However I'm just so excited you're going to DL :cheer2: And a little jealous if I'm completely honest lol. Are you going to do a PTR? Pretty please??

Ah...the final park day. Such a happy and sad time, but definitely easier when you know you will be back!
OMG SO much easier when you have another trip planned!

I also missed the information about Ricky's knee but sounds like it will all be just fine soon which is GREAT!
Thank goodness it looks like he'll be back to normal very soon! I explained it briefly above to @heathsf but basically he partially dislocated his knee during a game and has been out of PE and basketball since the beginning of Feb. Very hard for a kid who was doing sports 6 days a week to go from that to none with the possibility of being out for months :( So happy it looks like we're in the home stretch!

I have been purposely AVOIDING any of the updates about Pandora, especially the news coverage and the inside looks. I really want to be surprised by what is there.
I understand. I think I'm so bitter that we miss the opening by 5 days that I needed to see what we're missing lol.

I only hope that once Memorial Day is over, maybe a small break can be had and we can attempt it.
I'll have my fingers crossed for you! You HAVE to experience it; to be down there and not would be too big a tease!

I typically don't like to watch previews, but I did see all the clips via youtube (we watched on Friday night). I am SO SO excited!! The new rides look amazing, Aria is really excited too (and she'll be tall enough for the banshee ride too).
The banshee ride looks neat but I'm a bit concerned about motion sickness :crazy2: Most likely I'll try it anyway, because I hate to NOT try something for myself.

Excited to check out the new bar lol!
::yes:: ::yes:: :drinking1

Finally getting over to your trip report, though you know I've been reading the dining one! :)
Thank you so much for jumping over here, too!!

Do you remember what room number you guys had at WL? Trying to figure out what to request for our September trip.
You know, other than being on the 5th floor, I don't :scratchin I'm sorry! I thought I had a picture but I can't find it. Steve might have the picture on his phone though so when he comes home I'm going to ask him for you :goodvibes It was directly over the new cabins which only had their foundations laid, I remember that!

Much Ado About Something
Hi guys :wave2: I'm sitting here with Steve while he watches the Bachelor finale (he watches the Kardashians, too :sad2:) while we await 100 feet of snow. Got my wine, I'll be fine! I just finished looking at my March plans again and making sure I know what we're doing-we all do that at 12 days out, right? So now I can maybe focus a bit on May. Which probably makes a few of you start to twitch lol. Believe me if the boys were coming I'd have more planned but for the 2 of us, we're winging it again. Plus I won't know how much time I want to spend at F&G until I see how much we get done there this month!
However one thing I know I want to do is a tour. I have it narrowed down to 2: Marceline to the Magic Kingdom or the Backstage Tales at AK. So far we've done KTTK and the Undiscovered FutureWorld tours and loved both, but surprisingly I think I'd give the edge to Undiscovered FutureWorld.
The #1 thing that makes MTMK stand out to me is going behind the scenes in the HM. What stands out about Backstage Tales is that we haven't done an AK tour yet. After reading @pepperandchips awesome review of the Backstage Tales tour I'm leaning toward that, but Steve isn't an animal lover so he'd like to do MTMK. Hmm..............:scratchin

On a commercial break he did say he'd do Backstage Tales but now I'm afraid he won't like it. Which only part of me cares about :rolleyes1 No no, I do care!! I want us both to enjoy it. Such a rough decision right? Since we'll be snowed in tomorrow I figured it's as good a time as any to book the tour, just have to make a decision! And then I can work on maybe some park plans and ADR's?? :P

Thanks for letting me write that out and bounce it off you! Anyone have an opinion?
I'll be back to finish up our last day soon! If you're getting snow tomorrow - enjoy

I'm sitting here with Steve while he watches the Bachelor finale (he watches the Kardashians, too :sad2:)
Sounds like my hubby, who enjoys trashy reality TV, like The Real Housewives, Toddlers and Tiaras, and Dance Moms. But, I totally have to own up. I almost always watch the Bachelor and Bachelorette! And eventually my DH's influence won out and now I watch several of the Real Housewives seasons and a bunch of other trashy stuff!

Got my wine, I'll be fine!
Good girl! :)

Since we'll be snowed in tomorrow I figured it's as good a time as any to book the tour, just have to make a decision!
Good luck with that! I'm horrible at making decisions!

Lol! Well I admit I like some trashy reality TV too-the Gypsy wedding show? It's a train wreck I can't turn away from!

Ha! The I-Have-No-Freakin-Idea-What-I'm-Doing DL PTR. My confusion over pretty much everything would probably be embarrassing for me and annoying for others to read about. I spent a good 20 minutes today frustratedly tapping random spots on the DL map on my iPad while yelling "where the **** is the ******* FP dispenser for this ride?!" Not my finest moment(s). :rotfl: But I am, of course, super excited and may start one at some point.

I'll be back to finish up our last day soon! If you're getting snow tomorrow - enjoy

You have the perfect snow plan! Wine + Disney planning = :cloud9: It's 46 degrees here right now and I'm seriously angry about it. Messing up spring break! I cannot help with your tour dilemma, as they both sound great to me. However, I wish you clarity as to your level of caring about what Steve will or will not like, as it sounds like that's where your real decision lies. ;)

We're about to get the leftovers of your snow storm up here, too! My mom and I went home to visit family just above Maine over our work spring break, and now we're bracing for the storm about to hit tonight! YUCK! I brought books, cozy slippers, and some power bars and plan to get comfy and wait it out. Good luck!

I think I'm probably too biased to help with your predicament because I'd always pick AK in that scenario. Especially if I had permission from my other half. But I guess it just gives you a reason to have to go back and do another tour in future! I think both sound great, so as a friend of my mom's told me back when I was trying to choose where to go to school, if you're stuck between two choices that are both good, you can't make the "wrong" decision.

Hi,

I have to give a vote for the Marceline tour, we loved it so much. The HM and CoP in depth is so interesting. We learned so much more about Walt and how he worked his magic with his Imagineers and convinced them they could do anything! We had the best tour guide, her name was Darlene and she actually knew Walt and her dad was an Imagineer so it made the tour more special. Out of the three tours we have done this is still our favorite. I hope your snow apocalypse will be short lived!

Tough choice and a great quandary to be in! I don't think it will help you choose at all but R is not an animal lover either - at least not in the sense of enjoying zoos or anything like that. It actually was a great experience for both of us and he told me afterward that it made him feel better about the animals having seen their backstage barns.

Selfishly I think you should do MtMK so you can give me the low down :rotfl:

I had heard about back stage at HM but then couldn't remember what tour that was on. I think R would love that - HM is his favorite!!! So tough to choose. I would already love to do backstage tales again but you have to take that with a grain of salt - AK is my favorite park! Is one tour a better fit for the budget than the other? Does the timing of one fit better with other things you'd hoped to do? Are they both available? That is how I would choose. Good luck and man am I jealous!!

Hope you all are surviving and drinking your way through the storm. It was largely a bust here, more sleet than snow, but enough for schools to close and work to open late, which I decided to just parlay into a day off :-)

Sounds like you have quite the quandary on the tours. Why don't you just plan on doing one now and another one in May?

Thanks everyone for chiming in on the tours!

This made me :rotfl: I've learned quite a bit about DL since becoming a TA and overall I feel it's much easier to learn about than WDW, but the littler things like were FP machines are I definitely still don't know!

But I am, of course, super excited and may start one at some point.
I'm crossing my fingers you do :D

You have the perfect snow plan! Wine + Disney planning = :cloud9: It's 46 degrees here right now and I'm seriously angry about it. Messing up spring break!
You are hysterical. My sister in Ga. has temps in the mid 40's too and they have a freeze warning in effect for tonight.

We're about to get the leftovers of your snow storm up here, too!
Uh-oh sorry! Did you get it yet?

I think I'm probably too biased to help with your predicament because I'd always pick AK in that scenario.
I should have known :P

as a friend of my mom's told me back when I was trying to choose where to go to school, if you're stuck between two choices that are both good, you can't make the "wrong" decision.
Very wise :hippie:

I have to give a vote for the Marceline tour, we loved it so much. The HM and CoP in depth is so interesting
I've made my decision :snooty: and I will say that learning that much about those attractions sounds really, really wonderful!

We had the best tour guide, her name was Darlene and she actually knew Walt and her dad was an Imagineer so it made the tour more special
That would definitely make it more special. I think I remember reading about that in your dining report? I hope we get her!

I don't think it will help you choose at all but R is not an animal lover either - at least not in the sense of enjoying zoos or anything like that. It actually was a great experience for both of us and he told me afterward that it made him feel better about the animals having seen their backstage barns.
Very good to know. I did make my decision which I'll post soon. And the one we don't do in May I plan to do on our next adults only trip!

I had heard about back stage at HM but then couldn't remember what tour that was on. I think R would love that - HM is his favorite!!!
Apparently for MTMK you go really behind the scenes for HM; on KTTK, and sorry to spoil for anyone, we rode HM and went in a CM door so we saw a bit of the backstage area and learned one or two cool tidbits of info. But sounds like MTMK is much more in depth.
Let me ask you this and I know you reviewed it, but the FW tour: on a scale of 1-10 what would you rate it?

Is one tour a better fit for the budget than the other? Does the timing of one fit better with other things you'd hoped to do? Are they both available?
No, budget-wise and time-wise both would work, which makes it harder to choose!

Hope you all are surviving and drinking your way through the storm.
::yes:: I only got out of my jammies around 2 because a couple of Ricky's friends from around the corner walked up so I figured I should put a bra on. Wasn't happy about it.........

It was largely a bust here, more sleet than snow, but enough for schools to close and work to open late, which I decided to just parlay into a day off :-)
We're at 24 inches and it's still snowing! Just called another snow day for tomorrow so I can have even more wine with my burger and fries for dinner and not set the alarm again :cool1: Glad you got a day off, hope you enjoyed it with the family.

Why don't you just plan on doing one now and another one in May?
Because someone thinks our March trip is too short for a tour :sad2: Three nights no tour, four nights ok for a tour :confused3 Whatever, at least I'm going twice!

And the Winner Is.......

Sorry, it's another PTR post guys. Since we're snowed in today under 2 feet of snow (currently - still snowing!) I did lots of TA work and spent some time on our May plans including deciding on a tour. I was too lazy to actually get off the couch at any point to grab the phone and book it, but there's always tomorrow!
Here's a rough rundown of what I plan on doing in May:

Thursday, May 18th
arrive MCO 4:47pm
Cape May Cafe dinner 7:25
Stroll BW; go to Abracadabar

Friday, May 19th
8am tour it it's available: Marceline to the MK!
Epcot for F&G booths we didn't hit in March or revisit faves
Back to MK at night for Happily Ever After

Saturday, May 20th
HS at some point in morning
DS, lunch at Homecomin'
Jellyrolls!!!!

Sunday, May 21st
sleep in because we'll be at Jellyrolls late, singing drinking :rockband: :drinking1
AK, mainly to see if we can catch a soft opening of Avatar
Epcot for more food, drink and flowers :flower1:
Try to catch the Flower Power concert at 5:30
Yachtsman dinner 6:30

Possibly back to Epcot for Illuminations

Monday, May 22nd (departure day)

I originally was thinking MK for a couple hours plus I could check out the new opening show, but we'll need to catch ME about 11 for a 2:00 flight. Might get a couple FP's for HS again or just do a nice breakfast somewhere.

A couple things:
- I have Cape May dinner because Steve thought it looked really good when Chris and I ate there in Nov. and he loves seafood. Our flight gets in at 4:47 so we could be at the resort by 6, 7, who knows. I first thought to go into Epcot but since he wants to try CMC, we'll do that most likely.
-Might book a dinner for the 19th before Happily Ever After but not sure :scratchin Already making more plans than I usually do on our adults only trips so this could be a wing it thang!
-Flower Power concert in May is Herman's Hermits. They're from the 60's so lots of you guys probably don't know them......my mom used to listen to 60's music all the time so I like a lot of it including them. We've already seen them twice during F&G so not a big deal if we miss them. During our trip this month it's Night Ranger who are like, 80's awesomeness, so we'll be seeing them!

Thanks for listening and reading! I'll let you all know if we get the Marceline tour and I promise to finish our last day asap!

Your plans look great. Makes me want an adults only trip! I feel like you can park hop easier and whatnot!

I'm sitting here with Steve while he watches the Bachelor finale (he watches the Kardashians, too :sad2:
Ha! Too funny! We are Survivor and Amazing Race junkies....

Since we'll be snowed in tomorrow I figured it's as good a time as any to book the tour, just have to make a decision!
I kind of wish we had gotten some snow... A second snow day would have been sweet. Oh well, I guess I can't complain, we didn't have to shovel anything.

I only got out of my jammies around 2 because a couple of Ricky's friends from around the corner walked up so I figured I should put a bra on. Wasn't happy about it.........
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I can't wait to hear about the Marceline Tour!
