Yeesh...let me set this up for ya, my dd6 is the one and only grandchild for each set of grandparents, and always will be an only. (Dh is an only, my bro can't have kids). Anywhoo...my mother makes me nuts at Christmas. She is stealthy about it, too, not outright obvious. She wants to buy dd the biggest and the best thing, always asking what Nana #2 might be getting for dd, etc, and so on. Really, it's not just competition against Nana #2, either, it's fair game for all. I mentioned that I was getting dd an AG doll and she says "oh, I'll get her that". Eh, no, that's her big pressie from Santa. I have an awful feeling that there might be an AG doll at Nana K's this Christmas. I try not to let my mom stress me out but the woman just knows how to get under my skin. I'm very grateful for her, God bless her, but she makes me

What we learned over the years was not to tell my MIL the 'big' thing my DD wanted ... if it was something we planned to get for her. We also told DD that if Grammy asked what she wanted, she should tell Grammy that "I gave my list to mommy. "

I would tell her that DD wants to go to WDW. Seriously. We've got enough toys in my house, but never get enough trips to WDW.

My mom & I both had that "problem". I am an only child & grandchild, and my oldest son was for years. My grandmothers who turned into great-grandmothers decided to divvie up the gifts. One calendar year, 1 grandmother bought only toys for all gift-giving occasions and the other grandmother bought only clothes. Then the followng year they switched. Worked for us.
This way the parents had to buy very little (not much money anyway) and the grandmothers had lots of fun.
