My DD is on the preteam at her gym and they are really working them hard to get them ready for team. She is there for an hour and a half 3 times a week.

This seems like a lot to me for a 4 and a half year old that can't even compete until she is 6. She is in a class with much older kids. She REALLY loves it. She lives gymnastics and she seems to really enjoy it.

But, I worry about her having such a strong focus on one thing so young. And I worry about if they are doing this much now, what will it be like when she is on the team. And I worry about injuries.

Anyone else have kids in gymnastics?? Does this much time a week seem like a lot to you??

Any opinions?

I have a DD who is five. She loves gymnastics. This year she is twice a week for one hour. Last year it was three times a week. We cut back when she started Kindergarden full day.

She also is involved in a variety of other activities as well. She does ballet, drama, swimming and spanish. She also goes to girl scouts once a month (special troop).

She is a child that loves to stay active. She would do more if we allowed her. I think that she does a lot, but she really enjoys herself.

She is doing back bends as I type.

WOW to be on preteam when she is only 4 1/2 is AWESOME. She must be really good. As for being too much, you have to look at your DD. Does she seem stressed, is it too much presure for her? Also, since you ask, I can only assume that you feel it is too much for her. I think you need to do what you think is best for your DD as well as you and the family.
