Wondering if those that have used the shared washer/dryers available at DVC resorts could give me any details in their experience. Did you find it to be crowded, best time of day to go, is detergent available for purchase? Specifically looking for details on BLT but welcome general feedback as well. Thanks.

What do you mean shared washers/dryers. We always have our own in our room. Am I missing something here?

Will be our first stay, but it's my understanding the studios don't have washer/dryers in the room. Also, that there is a area somewhere in the resort where guests can use a shared washer/dryer.

We've had no major issues with the shared laundry facilities. One time though we had to wait almost 2 hrs for someone to take their laundry out of the dryer... i'm not one to touch other's property...but others may have no problem with it. For the most part, we didn't find it crowded. :)

Detergent is available for purchase... i think they were single use boxes of soap. We bring our own and store it in our owners locker :)

I haven't done BLT but did laundry at AKL a few times.

There are very view washers/dryers at the DVC free shared areas. Due to this bad timing may mean a wait. I have always done either very early in the morning or during a mid day break and had decent luck with it.

They have detergent but its in a machine so you would need quarters to purchase. I generally just bring Tide Pods and some dryer sheets when I go.

You are correct on both counts.

I haven't used the laundry rooms in a while because we usually book 1BRs but one thing I remember is that the dryers take forever to dry. So you may not have a wait for a washer but since it can take multiple cycles to dry a load, you can end up waiting for a dryer.

The laundry rooms have single-use boxes of powdered detergent available in a vending machine. You can buy a larger quantity of laundry detergent (powdered or liquid) in the resort store.

The laundry room at BLT is on the ground floor on the left side as you come in the building (so on the DVC desk side). Go down the hallway and the last door on the left before the elevator bank is the laundry. When we have used it there were plenty of washers and dryers. Not all the dryers were working though so you might hang out a few minutes to make sure it is operable. I didn't and returned in 45 minutes to still soaking wet clothes. There was a rolling cart in the laundry room which I found helpful.

I used them last week at VWL. I was the only person using them at the time. Problem was the machine that dispenses soap powder was broken. I ended up walking over to the self service laundry at WL itself and bought some from their machine ($1 per load). Then went back and used the machines at VWL since they are free.

As a prior poster said, the BLT community laundry room is located the first floor near the north elevator alcove. Its extremely convenient. You have to use your MickeyBand for access to the laundry room, but you can access it 24/7.

There are three washers and six dryers and a vending machine dispensing detergent, bleach, and softener for cash. The washers and dryers, of course, are free.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like it should be pretty doable for us. We'll be there 10 days and hopefully only have to do laundry once. Are they normal sized units or are they bigger allowing for larger loads?

The BLT machines are standard size appliances. Here is a photo I took back in March 2010 during our first stay. Its a bit out of date because the front loading washing machine has been replaced with another top loader.

Thank you for the answer and the picture. I'm not at all interested in doing laundry on vacation, but if I can knock it out in a couple of hours it won't be that bad.

I used the BLT ones in Feb 2014. My trip was long and I also resort hopped so lots of laundry.

I was the only person in the room in the early afternoon. I used two washers at once so I could separate lights and darks.

The washer cycle was less then a half hour, and the dryers worked very well. It was done in less then 2 hours and I don't think anyone else came by.

I don't find it too interesting either, but it reduces the amount of clothing I have to pack and I also like to go home mostly clean.:laundy:
