An oven, as of today. Technically, it’s still in the kitchen. But it blew up. Yep, you read that correctly. It…blew…up.
DH was in the living room after starting dinner, heard some crazy noises coming from the kitchen and then a loud bang. Went into the kitchen and smoke was pouring out from the stove. It’s done, kaput. I know exactly what happened too…it’s a Samsung. That’s all you need to know. It blew up because it’s a Samsung. So far, in the 6 years that we’ve owned the appliances, the fridge, dishwasher, microwave and now oven have all died or malfunctioned. All Samsung.
NEVER AGAIN ! ! !

Napkins. I have a fancy cloth set for entertaining and we have paper towels if we needed something during an everyday casual meal, but for unknown reasons we’ve never made the leap to actual napkins. My husband and I have mentioned it occasionally over the past 23 years, as in, “Should we start buying napkins?” But then we shrug and move on with life the same way it’s always been. I guess we haven’t found a compelling reason to justify their existence in our home.

I had a friend who didn’t own a salt shaker. This caused quite the upset in our friend group when someone asked for salt, she didn’t have a salt shaker to provide, and the dinner guest teased her upon learning they didn’t own one. The salt-shakerless friend’s feelings were hurt. “I don’t own a salt shaker, so what! I season my food appropriately while cooking and we don’t have a need to add more salt at the table. It’s not a big deal!”

It would be an easier question, what common household item do you not have more than one of? So far everything listed here we have at least 2 of.

We do not have an electric tea kettle or coffee bean grinder.
