I know those that have them usually love them, but are there any negatives about having one? And isn't there a less expensive alternative to the Comfort Select beds? I think I remember someone posting about it here before.

We've had a "Select Comfort" for about ten years now. We love it!

Comfortaire (or Comfort Aire) is the cheaper alternative. One of the founders of Select Comfort went off on his own and started Comfortaire. They do no advertising and do not have their own "mall store" which is why they are cheaper. Pretty much the same bed.

I hate them all. Tried it, sent it back. But I'm the minority.

We got our Select Comfort bed about 7-8 years ago and the price has more then doubled since we got our bed. Some other friends got one about 3 years after we got ours and their bed cost twice as much as ours for a low level bed. Unbelievable.

I'm another person who LOOOOVES my Sleep Number bed. I haven't priced them recently, but back in 2002, I got a king-sized, pillow top with the basic frame for about $1999. We didn't get the wireless remotes because....well....it would just be 2 more remotes to lose in the blankets. ;)

This is what we've got - way less expensive. She's right about the background of this company. Only exception - we LOVE ours. Their customer service is awesome. Our pump was struck by lightening a couple of years ago - called them and they sent us a new pump with a return UPS code to send the broken one back - no questions asked.

As the one who makes us the bed all the time, I love the fact that the matress is light as a feather. I can literally pick it up with one hand. No more flipping mattresses. It's great!!

We boought a Select Comfort bed about 8 years ago after DH's brother and S-I-L recommended them. We've never found it to be particularly comfortable. We added a 2-inch Memory Foam mattress topper a couple of years ago, and it helped. We just added a 4-inch Memory Foam topper about 4 months ago, and now the bed is wonderful! :earsgirl:

If we didn't have to get a bed up our spiral staircase, I would definitely buy a Heavenly Bed (we love the ones at the Dolphin!) They are indeed heavenly, and prices are pretty reasonable.

We own a comfortaire and I liked them better then select comfort. The select comfort has a pad or "bump" in the middle that you can feel if you roll into the middle. The comfortaire does not have this. The one downside to it is if you are spooners like we are in the middle of the bed you sort of end up in really low since all your pressure is one the edge of both air systems. So when you go to roll over you sort of have to pull yourself out of it. Otherwise we LOVE our bed! So comfy and is nice to adjust because sometimes you like it softer then others. I use to keep mine really soft but since getting pregnant I need a bit more back support.

Even though I don't like the "air" mattresses, I will say that I agree that Comfortaire is going to give you much better customer service (and on the queen size and above) there is no foam piece down the middle. If you decide to return the bed, Comfortaire is definitely "no questions asked, no hassle." Not the same with Select Comfort. Remember, with Select Comfort, you WILL be paying for the advertising and the store in the mall.

In my area, there is only one mattress store (about 45 minutes away) that carries Comfortaire. Otherwise, you can order it off the internet from a mattress seller. I think when I ordered mine, the Select Comfort bed was running about $1700, and the Comfortaire "twin" was about $1000.
