Come on bell boy I can take my own bag...

As bad as it sounds, the bolded section does drive me nuts. I really like when I get to the resort, the room is ready, and the same person gets my bags from the car, and takes them right to the room. Not to be, or sound cheap, but, if someone just gets them out of the car, onto the rack and rolls them to storage, I usually give them $2-$3 total, knowing that the person that takes them from storage, up to the room, unloads them, and usually puts them where I want, is doing a bit more work, and will be tipped a buck a bag or so.

That is exactly what we do. One time dh tipped three times for our bags. The Magical Express Driver, the bellman who took them from our hands and put them in the holding area, then again when they were brought up. Since then, if all they do is hand them to us or take them from us to a nearby holding area, the tip is not going to be $1-2 per bag.

As to the OP, as others have said, there is no "have to" with bell services. At some of the resorts like SSR and OKW we used them because it was a lot of walking and at OKW our bags had to be taken up to our third floor unit in a bldg. that had no elevators. For most other resorts, especially ones like BW where all rooms are under one room (albeit down some long hallways) we take our own.
