Combining rooms

If I get an exchange for a 1-bedroom at one of the DVC resorts and another couple "rents" a suite at the same resort, will Disney let us combine those rooms into a 2-bedroom?

That's a very good question! I think to get them combined, you would have to have the reservations linked, and I'm not sure how that works with an II exchange. At any rate, the information would have to be used when the person renting points makes the reservation for the renter. Just not sure how that would be possible unless they use it as a "request" to be near a specific exchange reservation. Just seems unlikely to me.

I would think if you check in at the same time, they could try to get the rooms together, if you have a 1 bedroom and the other couple have a studio (I think that is what you are saying), then it is possible? But it depends on how busy and booked the resort is. I don't think there are special locks on the "lockoff" doors, I think if both sides unlock, then walla, you have a 2 bedroom.

If you make the request and check in together, it's possible this would work out. Better if it were all in one name. As noted, would have to be a 1 BR plus studio.

Possible, but I wouldn't count on it. This is one of those where you need to make your decision based on "it would be great if this happens." And not on "and we will plan the trip assuming this happens and be terribly disappointed if it doesn't."

Which resort? All of OKW's 1 bedrooms and studios are lockoffs, so it would be very possible. On the other hand, BWV has many dedicated 1 bedrooms and studios, which can't be combined.

I doubt it can be guaranteed, but it might be possible just by chance.

It will all depend on your dates of stay, and who already at the resort is checking out that same day and what kind of rooms are being left vacant.

Your best bet is if someone is checking out of a 2-B/R lock off and it is scheduled to be used next as a single 1-B/R plus a Studio. In that case you could ask for those two specific rooms.

Otherwise if it's already split by a 1-B/R and a Studio, it would have to work out that the two current parties occupying the two separate villas are both checking out on the same date, the date you are checking in.

All you can do is get their early at check-in and make your request known. MS will do what they can.

Keep in mind that the 1-B/R and the Studio will still be keyed separately if you do get the rooms, and room charges will remain separate. As far as DVC is concerned they are two separate rooms and two separate reservations. You on the other hand convert it into a 2-B/R unit simply by the two of you unlocking the two respective doors between the two units.

Good Luck. As mentioned earlier, go for it, but don't count on it and consider yourself fortunate if it works out.

This is NOT true. OKW has 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1Bdrms, 274 Dedicated 2Bdrms, and only 230 Lockoffs. Since the dedicated 2 bedrooms are a seperate ressie, some of the lockoffs will be arranged as 2 bedrooms and some as studios and 1 bedrooms. While it is possible, I think it would be very difficult to do at OKW. I think there would be a greater chance at BWV where all the 2 bedroom units are lock offs.

I think you are reading this wrong, or confused yourself reading it (because I know you know your stuff). A Lock-off is a one bedroom and a studio that have a connecting door between them that can be opened to make a 2 bedroom unit... ALL of OKW studios connect to a 1 bedroom... There are NO dedicated studios nor are there dedicated 1 bedrooms (dedicated meaning it does not connect to anything else, it stands alone) meaning that if they have a studio and a 1 bedroom booked they have a great chance of getting a lock-off at OKW because all studios connect to a 1 bedroom.

As for the original question, there is no way to guarantee this, but you can have a request on both reservations stating that you are traveling with the other party and would like connecting if possible (again this request will only be plausible if you are booking a studio and a 1 bedroom)...the room assigner will do their best to make it happen (reservations that are traveling with other reservations are pre-assigned to make sure they are as close together as possible), but as stated go into it with the thought that it would be nice to have it, but knowing it might not happen. Make sure you ask again at check in.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We will give this a try if everything works out. One more question - does anyone know which buildings have the 1-bdr/suite combination vs. the dedicated 2-bdrs? Or is there a mix of these in each building?

All of the buildings have lockoff 1 bedroom/studios and dedicated 2 bedrooms.
