We are thinking of flying out of Columbus. It's a little over 4 hours from us, but the prices are a lot lover. Are the fares always as low as they are right now (Aug 2012)? What's the airport like? Odd thing is that the flight connects in Cleveland, which we will drive through to get there :confused3 .

We flew out of Columbus many times when we lived there, and then drove there once for the same reason, because the fares where way cheaper than Cleveland. We loved it because it's much smaller than Cleveland. We also have drove to Akron, which is even better. Now we just drive to Disney every year because with 5 people, its not only cheaper to drive, but Disney transportation is not so great and I like to have my car.

We live in and fly out of Columbus. Up until yesterday prices had been way higher than I like. Yesterday US Air came out with $168 round trip for us so we jumped on it since most flights had been between $250 & $300 for the past several months that I've been watching. I noticed right after US Air dropped their prices so did a bunch of the other big airlines. My trip is in Sept not August but I can tell you in Sept of 2008 we paid $200 a person for SW, in Sept 2010 we paid $139 a person for SW, Sept 2011 I was watching prices and the lowest I saw was $181 for SW. This year I was watching all other airlines as well. Typically they're higher than SW but the deals that came along yesterday were great. The flight that I booked though went from $168 to $315 today so if there's something you want I'd jump on it quickly as others may be doing the same.

I live outside of Cleveland and have driven to Columbus to take a flight to MCO only to have our flight connect in Cleveland. But the fare was $150 for each one of us! And it was a connection on the same flight I would have taken out of Cleveland.

Did you check the airfares out of Akron? They sometimes are the same price as Columbus but it would save you from having to drive to Columbus. The Akron airport is GREAT very small. They just lowered the parking rate to $6.00. You can check, go through security and be at your gate 30 minutes after you park you car. I am not kidding.
