Columbia Harbour House menu changes

I'm glad to see others upset over these changes. I have photos of the new menu. I eat at this restaurant once or twice a week. I have emailed photos to allears.net twice, but they still have not changed their menu on their site as of yet. It may be because Deb Willis is on a Disney Cruise right now, mabye when she returns home.

They have not added the turkey sandwich as of yet, they are thinking about it, they told me. I know several of the cm's that work that restaurant.

They did tell me that the starboard deck was temporarily off the menu. But that's what they told me about the half sandwich/soup, then it never returned. But they said they were taking notes on how many ask for the sandwich at the restaurant. And if they get enough people asking for it, they will bring it back. But don't cross your fingers. You can also email guest communications for WDW and voice your complaint about these menu changes. I already have, as I am a regular guest at this restaurant. But they have taken most of my options away now. I'm very sad about that.

They told me that when they took the half sandwich/soup off the menu it increased sales. They were able to move more people through line. They claim too many were confused about which sandwich comes with it and which soup. I was like come on, it's not rocket science here. How hard is that. But they claim it has speeded up their lines and sales there.

The chicken nuggets they have now are made by the same company that made the chicken strips. The only thing different is the size of them. But I agree they are not as crispy as the strips. But this was not just a change at Harbour House, this was a park wide change on the strips to nuggets.

No, I haven't seen the menu myself. I'm going off of info that was in the Allears Weekly newsletter at the end of April. It was in the "Allears Hears" section, which contains info from readers' emails. However, there weren't any retractions to it in the newsletter last week. It wasn't "official", but it did sound like it was true, since there were new substitutions given for some items taken off.

Readers had reported that the 1/2 sandwich & cup of soup had been removed in mid-March. The Starboard Deck sandwich and the Galley Salad had been removed near the end of April. Columbia Harbour House was instead offering some kind of a turkey sandwich and a harvest salad. The original items were not only tasty, but unique. If this is indeed true, they have substituted them with ordinary fare. Another "standard" menu item, which are no doubt "cheaper" for Disney to serve. Better for Disney? Not for us.

Thank you for writing what you wrote. I feel the same way you do about this menu change business at the Harbour House. I eat at this restaurant once sometimes twice a week. I live here in Orlando. Most of the cm's there know me when I walk in and know my name.

They claim when they took the half sandwich/soup off the menu it increased sales and they were able to move more people through line. They claim so many people were confused by the option. They say they always asked what sandwich comes with that, what soup? I was like you got to be kidding me. It's not rocket science here. I know, I eat there all the time. It's not that very hard to understand that you pick one of the three sandwiches (now only 2 sandwiches) and one of the two soups.

I was dealing with the half sandwich/soup being gone. Which they told me at Easter is was only being taken off through spring break. NOT! After they discovered their theory of the line moving faster was right, they left it off the menu. It was a test. But they made it sound like because it was crowded at Easter and spring break was the reason.

But when they totally took the starboard off two weeks ago, that was the last straw with me. I have emailed WDW guest communications and complained to a CM at City Hall in MK. I was not a happy camper about it.

The supervisor at the Harbour House told me they were taking notes on how many people come in and ask for the starboard sandwich. She said it would depend on how many ask for it, whether it will return. She then said "it probably won't be back, I'm sorry". Then she said, we still have your soup. That's when I told her they have taken all my options away to eat there. And I love the atmosphere there and I have my own table upstairs I sit at. There are a few other regular guests that eat there as well. One older man eats there just about every day, he has a name badge that says "Tom Tuna" on it. He gets there at 9:30am an hour before they open, one day he fell asleep at the register. They take his food upstairs for him and take him up in the private cm elevator. He's a trip.

Anyways the chicken nuggets come from the same supplier as the strips. I was told they changed to nuggets because they were all the same size portions. That the strips were not all the same size. I was like whatever.

You should join me by emailing disney about the starboard deck sandwich being removed.

My husband and I are really upset about the menu changes that have been reported at Columbia Harbour House. This has been our favorite WDW counter service.....by far! We have loved getting the 1/2 sandwich with soup entree. Not only are they NOT offering that anymore, but our favorite sandwich....the Starboard Deck....has also been taken off the menu. Why, why, why is WDW doing this? Is it because of the DDP, and they want to standardize everything? Pretty soon there will be the same food offered at every restaurant. Only the surroundings will be different.

We have always looked forward to our stop for lunch here while in the MK. We would both get 1/2 of the Starboard Deck sandwich, with the clam chowder. YUM!!! This is just so sad.

Chicken strips fingers have been gone since February. They are now chicken nuggets in 6 or 8 pieces. Comes from the same supplier as the strips. This is also a park wide change. Every restaurant that had the chicken strip fingers changed to the nuggets.

No more half sandwich/soup on the menu.

No more starboard deck sandwich.

No more Galley Salad. It's now the New Harvest Salad.

Sorry to disappoint, but a lot of un-welcomed changes at this restaurant. And I'm not very happy about it.

Have you seen the new menu posted anywhere? I thought they got rid of chicken fingers, but then saw someone posted they had them last week. It is our favorite counter service at MK, so, I'm hoping there haven't been that many changes!!

I'm with the rest of you on this one. CHH was almost the only place in MK to get good TS food. The soup and sandwich was my favorite meal! Don't like this and will complain when we go in two weeks.

Please complain to them. The more I can get to complain, the better the chances of getting my sandwich back on the menu. I like to eat there every week. But if you go to city hall to complain, they will just tell you to email guest communications at wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

I email them everytime there has been a change since March and nothing has been updated on the site, don't know why. Big fan of the Lighthouse Sandwich - I hope that stays on the menu. Allears only has a menu as recent as February. If anyone can update that here (or send it to allears) that would be very helpful! We just went to CHH for the first time last trip and it was great - can't wait to go back. We will definitely give it another try despite any changes.

My DH was especially upset about it because that is what he always orders there (vegetarian chili and half of a Lighthouse sandwich). We ended up ordering one Lighthouse sandwich and a bowl of veggie chili and just split everything. The only problem is you only get one bag of chips that way.

If it was slowing down the lines, why not keep it as a unlisted menu item. Those of us who always ordered it could continue to do so without slowing down the line because we already know which sandwich and which soup we want. Everybody wins that way.

I wrote about this on other threads, but the Garden Galley Salad was one of my favorite foods at the MK. It was unique to CCH as you couldn't order it anywhere else. I hope that the new Harvest Salad is good and that something about it will be unique meaning that it's not the same salad served at other cs places. Perhaps the Garden Galley Salad was a little on the expensive side for Disney to make with the pecans and pineapple so they are substituting it with a more standard salad with just chicken (?) and garden veggies.

Now, in the Magic Kingdom, for unique foods, you can choose what exactly from CS restaurants?

This news really stinks! I loved the chicken strips and one meal could feed myself & my two boys if we were having a "quick lunch". With the cost of food & the size of the nuggets, it sounds like this will just make them more money.

I think the harvest salad has califlower in it. But it doesn't say what kind of vegtables, so don't be suprised if you order it.

Yes, that is what we always ordered too I am so annoyed as we ate here often (several times a month.) I will be writing and visiting Guest Relations at the MK.

A previous poster who said you only get 5 nuggets is incorrect. With the nugget meal, you get 8 nuggets (instead of what used to be 3 strips), which I think is perfectly adequate. TBH, I couldn't tell a difference between the old strips and the new nuggets (and I've eaten a lot of the chicken strips on previous visits). They tasted just the same.

You actually have a choice of 6 nuggets or 8 nuggets.
