I am getting married in Sept. 2009. Any ideas about wedding colors? I am still in the "brown" phase right now and am absolutely loving the idea of a brown and burnt orange color scheme- however, the DF says no brown. He doesn't like it and thinks it will look bad. I have tried to talk him into on several occasions, but he isn't having it- hehe. His ideas are a dark navy and burnt orange- my only concern is that we are from VA and I know that his favorite college team is UVA (University of Virginia), who just happens to have the colors- blue and orange.

Now, I was playing around the other day with practice programs, and found that I did like the very dark metallic navy and the orange, however the orange is lighter than I thought and all I kept thinking about was- UVA!!! I am just 'stuck.'

With the ceremony still early in September, can I get away with still using summer colors or should I look more into fall colors?

Being a Hokie, I have to say that orange and maroon are a much better choice!;) (just kidding)

In all seriousness, we were married in late September (the 20th) and I used summer/pastel colors for my wedding. I didn't have a major color scheme because our ceremony was so small but my bouquet was all pastel colors. I wanted to "extend" the summer a little and the weather certainly cooperates.

While I can understand "seasonal" color schemes for certain times of the year, I think in September you can really get away with either summer or fall...or just pick something you really like based on the theme of your wedding.

I totally second hiwaygal. (hi hiwaygal!! :) ) I live in Florida and have my entire life and July- Sep is our hottest time of year. Florida knows nothing of fall. That occurs for a few days at the end of october beginning of November sometimes.

So basically, you can totally pull off summer colors in September. And you could do fall as well. I am not one in particular for what I have to do due to the etiquette written in some book or understood by society that has been outdated since women were allowed to vote.

It is your wedding- pick whatever colors you want!

Good luck and remember this is supposed to be fun!!!

We are summer and we are going with expresso brown and blue really nice

I say do whatever colors you like regardless of the time of year. I am getting married in May and my colors are black, champagne, and silver. How does your DF not like brown? What about orange, brown and blue. With the right hues it would look really rich. a light blue goes great with brown, probably as well as pink goes with brown.

JameysGirl57, I agree with everyone else. Do what you want to do in regards to colors.

Now, with that being said, some floral items may be considered "out of season" and thus will cost you more money, but your florist should be able to help you out with that.

I had a FTW VR at the end of October. I chose springtime pastels for my floral needs since that is what I wanted. I'll share a few photos below:

Also, has anyone ever had the 7:30pm ceremony at WP? We are looking to having the ceremony at 7:30pm at the WP, a pre-reception at the Italy Isola afterwards and then the reception directly after that. Did you find that guests felt it was too late to be eating a full meal at 9:30pm?

My ceremony was at 8:00 PM, followed by photos inside the Wedding Pavilion. Afterwards, a chartered motor coach took my guests to Disney's Hollywood Studios Theme Park for the dinner reception. I think it was somewhere between 9:15 PM and 9:30 PM when everyone was dropped off backstage. Then the progressive dinner party began. We had champagne in the GMR courtyard, followed by cocktails in the GMR Gangster venue, then it was on to the GMR Western venue for dinner, and that was followed by dessert in the GMR Land of Oz venue. It was after midnight when everyone stepped outdoors for the dance party in the moonlight. The night ended at 2 AM with a custom fireworks display, and then everyone boarded the chartered motor coach for a ride back to their resort. My husband & I and our children were the last ones dropped off that night. It was 3 AM when the motor coach pulled beneath the porte cochere of the Grand Floridian Resort. It had been a long and very fun evening for everyone.

i agree that colors dont have to match a season especially in florida and even more so in disney- it is YOUR wish that is coming true.
anyway i did use brown and pink, peach, cream and orange .

other colors that might work would be creams and champagne dresses, light and dark greens. i love dark green dressses.
i would do whatever catched your eye.

cant wait to see your plans

My theory is that it is your wedding and no matter the season you should be able to have any color you want. Florida really only has one season, summer..lol. If you do want to stick with the brown theme, which I think is beautiful, I think Brown and Navy look great together. they are both neutral colors so they do coordinate. Champagne and Navy is GORGEOUS! I have seen them both together and it was very classy and elegant!!! When you do decide I would love to hear what you finally decided on!

One thing that I found helpful was to search up some floral arrangements online to look at different things that would ultimately impact my color scheme too.

I agree with everyone, go with what you like best, don't worry about the time of year or season. At Disney you can do whatever you like best :goodvibes

That is so funny about your DF and the colors and your link to UVA. I could totally see my DH doing that too!

I am also a hokie and agree with hiwaygal that orange and maroon would be very beautiful, haha. But like everyone was saying Florida doesnt really go with the seasonal color changes because they really don't have them down here. No matter when you come everything is very green and bright and looks like spring and summer for your pictures. We were thinking of getting married in October and I was still going to use my light pink color.

We are actually having the same wedding as you I believe! We are having our ceremony at 7:30WP, cocktail hour in Italy and then a reception following in AAR. I was concerned about the location at first, but then after talking to many of my guests, I realized it's not a big deal as long as everyone is aware of the time so they can eat a little later in the day. Many of my guests are current college grads and are used to staying up pretty late and I really like the time slot because it goes until 1:30am. We wanted our wedding to be the party of the evening and this way people don't have to find somewhere to go to continue partying. You probably could get away with just doing heavy hor derves, but we are going to be serving a full meal basically because we both want full meals for us and no one will mind eating that late. Most people will be using it as a vacation so it really won't be a good issue. HTH!

Have you shown your fiance any photos from weddings that have used a brown color scheme? I've seen many brides use brown with much success at different times of the year.

If that still doesn't work, I wouldn't worry too much about the time of year. Especially in September. As the other girls said, pick colors that you like, and go with it. Especially in the FL climate.

How about looking at bringing in Gold hues. It will make everything look really rich in color

We did turquoise and orange in February, and it looked fabulous!

I was wondering the same thing as hmgolden... have you shown him pics of how brown can be used in weddings? It can be gorgeous.

My colors are chocolate brown (fabric and papers), blues (papers), ivories (fabric, papers & floral) and pinks (floral and ring bearer pillow).

There are pics of my brown, blue and ivory invitations in my PJ. The link is below.

I can't really help with orange. I love all colors, but orange is at the very bottom of my list.

Good luck with your choice!

Nikki

Nikki,
Thank you so much for the suggestions! I really originially wanted teal and chocolate brown, but your colors are beautiful. I absolutely LOVE your invitations! I really like the pocket invitations.

lurkyloo,
I will have to admit, when I first read your post, I was at a computer that did not pull up the pictures with the posts. My initial thought was, uhh :scratchin- that sounds like an interesting combo. However, after I got to a computer that actually showed the pictures- I totally fell in love with that color scheme. It is really pretty. I may have to show DF and see if we can "borrow" it.

Toni,
I actually had considered the Champagne and Navy. Dark blue/Navy is both of our favorite color, so I definately wanted to incorporate this. While looking at BM dresses, I found the one that I wanted that would be perfect with those two colors. I will definately keep you and everyone updated on what 'we' decide on.

Janet,
Thank you so much for sharing how your evening went. That made me feel better. I just kept thinking- how many people are going to want to eat a full dinner at 9:30-10:30 PM? But, I think that as long as we give all our guests a little heads up that the reception will be later in the evening, they can at least eat a little something before the wedding so they aren't STARVING by the time the reception comes.

:thanks:Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions so far! Please keep posting your ideas!
