Some of us need the sedation. I had no side effects from it. But "discomfort" is what I'm trying to avoid. I'm glad it's an option. It actually wasn't given to me as an option, it was "This is how we do it".Sorry might be slightly unrelated but I just came here to say that I have now had two colonoscopies without sedation and that's by far my recommendation. You are in and out in less than 20 min you only have very slight discomfort at the bends but nothing memorable and you don't have all the side effects of the sedation. Honestly I'm amazed that they even offer sedation for such a procedure! Good luck though I know it can be stressful![]()
I've never had any side effects either.I had no side effects from it.
Good news! You'll do great and find relief. Best wishes.I’ve got severe, long-term gi issues and I’ve been seeing my gastroenterologist annually for 15 years. I’ve had several endoscopic and colonoscopic scopes and he does the procedures himself, so yes - I consult with him beforehand, most recently last week. He’s finally agreed to put me on his waitlist for a fundoplication surgery to permanently repair my esophageal sphincter, which I have been literally praying for, for years. I’m on the “cancellation list” which means the call for surgery could come anytime. He’s doing my pre-op scopes on Tuesday and I start prep tonight using the new-to-me Pico Salex process. I’m happy to not be drinking the gallon of poison I normally get, but I imagine this new thing won’t be any picnic either, including getting up at 3:00 am on Tuesday to take the last dose.
FTR, I’m usually sedated with ketamine and fentanyl and I’ll be taking everything they’re willing to give me. I expect to have a very “restful” afternoon on Tuesday!

My husband is actually now recovering from
Toupet fundoplication. (His doctor thought 270 versus Nissan 360 was better option for him) . He’s doing well and hopes to have positive results once healed . Good luck on your surgery .
